    greetings from greece...and happy easter!

  • Does anyone know where I can find an English translation of this song, and/or other Fairuz Good Friday songs? The words are so beautiful, I would like to know what they mean in my own language.

  • @shunkahato They are the first two stanzas of the First Stasis, and the first three stanzas of the Second Stasis of the Holy Friday Lamentations. It's too long to post in one comment, so I recommend seeing the videos of youtube member GreekOrthodox that are Greek but with a complete English translation. They begin with:

In the tomb they laid Thee,

    Thee, O Christ, who art Life;

in amazement angel armies lift up their song

as they glorify Thy self-abasement, Lord.

  • @AgiosGiorgios Thank you very much, I'll look them up. The words you posted are already so beautiful I can't wait to learn the rest!

  • @shunkahato .It's not a song it's a hymn.Look for Lamentations.

  • @kostaras2 Thank you, my mistake.

  • @kostaras2 Yes it's a hymn composed by Romanos Melodos in 6th century a.d. And it is sung in all orthodox countries on Great Friday.

  • @shunkahato this is an english version of the same chant. its so beutifull in all languages

  • Hello everyone. It is Fayrouz and nothing more has to be added! I wonder if she sings the Troparion of Kassiani, sung only once a year, on Good Tuesday.

Thank you Agie Georgie for posting it.

  • The Lebanese legend Fairuz chanting the famous Hymn of "CHRIST IS LIFE". What an angelic voice comes out from between those awsome mountains of the beautiful Lebanon. Heads down to Christ, Respect to Fairuz & Respect to the Lebanese & Lebanon!

  • Is such a honour that Fairouz is singing in Greek... Greedings to all the libanese brothers.

  • I'm Jewish...but this is incredibly beautiful, and Fairuz is amazing!

  • @amixofeverything The two religions are more or less the same, it's a shame that there's been so much hate and infighting between them.

  • @mites7 Was God incarnate as a man or not? I'd say that a pretty huge difference.

  • @Cherubicon True, and a good point, but they are based on the same scriptures and share many stories/origins

  • well, there are some similarities, but so many differences. one says that God became flesh, and dwelt with us, and died, and rose for us. the other says He was just a human, who never died, or rose. one says love your enemies and pray for them, the other allows for retaliation. one says Jesus is Son of God, the other brings curses for claiming this (Surah 9 Aya 30). it's difficult, and peace between such different faith is also tough. either one or the other is correct, it can not be both ways.

  • @graceinmay I wasn't talking about Islam, I was talking about Judaism, of which Christianity is a continuation.

And its not really a "one has to be right one has to be wrong" argument, it's very likely both are wrong.

  • @mites7 i wouldn't say "very likely". imo the best place to start verifying historicity, is the Gospels themselves. which are kind of weird documents as far as ancient writing genres are concered, but full of information, details, names, and topographical descriptions, many of which can be checked. the Quran assumes that the Gospels are deeply mistaken on many counts. if that assumption is wrong, and the Gospels are not mistaken, it means they record actual events.

  • @amixofeverything i love how u admit it

    most of ppl dont

    thats good

  • @amixofeverything it is very amazing, god bless all the jews of the world and may god strengthen them, thankyou for your comment.

  • beautiful!

  • God bless. I love the Lord. God bless you all. I am Greek Orthodox and I speak Arabic as well. We sing in Greek and Arabic during Good Friday. Thank you for putting this song on. It is so beautiful, it makes me cry.

we sing this in 5th tone, podoben

  • although not christian, but i like this song

  • thank you for your comment, if you would like to know the good news preached by Jesus Christ, please send me a message. :)

  • den einai tragoudi einai ymnos epitafios mathete na ksexorizete tin mousiki apo tin bizantini

  • thanx god

    iam proud lucky christian...........

  • No, no, no. This is merely ANOTHER translation (a poetical one, but still a translation), and NOT a translitteration of the Arabic text.

  • i dont mean to offend u but get with the program and learn how to read arabic. I read aramaic, hebrew, arabic, greek, and cyrillic letters, but that doesn't mean i understand what it says. in arabic, u sound everything out, whats written is said. its just memorizing a letter to a sound.

  • Ya yaso3 al 7aya, fi qabr, wdha3ta

    faljunod al samawiet andhalat

    kolha wamajadat tanazolak

al masie7 al 7aya 7in dhaq al mamat

    3taq alnas min almot walaqad

fadha min janbika kamin nab3 wa7id

    jadwal mdha3fon mina nestaqi

    muthmirun lana al7ayat alkhalida

  • I didn't mean the translation (which is foundable on a lot of websites), but the translitteration of the Arabic.

    For example, «Christ is risen» is a translation, while «Al Massi7 qam» is a transLITTERation.

  • In the tomb they laid Thee,

    Thee, 0 Christ, who art Life;

in amazement angel armies lift up their song

as they glorify Thy self-abasement, Lord.

    Life, how can Thou perish,

or how dwell in a tomb?

Yet the royal hall of Death Thou now bring to nought,

and from Hades realm Thou raise the dead again.

Merci!

  • Α scratch of translation from the Greek text 1st "stasis" (motive )- I Zoi en Tafo Christ, being the Life You were pulled down the grave And the armies of Angels Being astonished, Are hailing Your acquiescence 2nd "stasis"- Axion Esti It's worthy To glorify You, the Donator of Life Who extended His hands across the Cross and thrashed the realm of Enemy ( Death)
