I like this against many MMA fighters because of the way they throw their kicks. The upward angle of the kick hits the thigh and slides up into the hip. If someone throws a real downward chopping Muay Thai kick though.... That will surely hurt. Condition the shins and check should be first defense, second moving in the direction of the kick and catching, third moving into the kick (move away from or towards power) Eating the kick like this should be last resort.

@KaelinSaint Wasn't it Bokator that does the full rotate on a true roundhouse, most MT and Indochinese kickboxers almost wrench the kick straight round, MT kicks are the only roundhouses that could be rolled with this, stuff like Karate, TKD and Chinese ones whip on the pivot and land horizontal, look up Vera's sport science kicks, he's a Muay Fighter, and his Thai style roundhouses land with the toe pointing up.

I only know about the way I was taught Muay Thai. My understanding from my instructor is that the "Muay Thai kick" that most MMA fighters learn and teach isn't very Muay Thai. There is supposed to be a downward angle on the kick and the shin is supposed to come in from the hip. It's hard to explain really but I know he kicks really hard and my kicks have improved tremendously from the "MMA kicks" I learned before. The leg is also bent at the knee when it lands.

It's nice to see people finding other ways of doing things. Just like everyone thinks that sprawling is the only way to defend against a double leg takedown which is not true. So to defend against the thigh kick, you don't have to pick up the knee and meet shins, you can bend the leg in. Sweet!

Cung le learns San Shou! Mix of Chinese wrestling and Striking. You guys all know anderson has bad takedown defense. Look at the dan henderson fight, he totally revealed Silva's weakness. I think it's a 50 50, because Silva has btter striking BUT Cung le has the edge for takedowns which can change the tide of the fight. When you got good takedowns, and good takedown defense, YOU CAN CHOOSE WHERE THE FIGHT GOES. So Cung le doesn't have to worry about going to the ground.

That is true but if the kick comes on a downward angle like some people throw, bracing for it will only amplify its power. One must condition the shins and reflexes to avoid the low kick. However, it really depends on your opponent. Some people train that kick just the way it is demonstrated. Other, more brutal people actually deliver it slightly downwards.
