HDR, High dynamic range. In short, its not "just bringing out the blues" <_<

What the camera is doing is quickly taking a series of shots at a different exposure each time and then the software analyses the image and outputs an image with an even range of exposure thru out. Example of a good use of it can be say, taking an image from a tunnel of the sunlit outside of the tunnel say of a building, the building outside will normally be well lit and the tunnel very dark, HDR changes that.

@sonicskj So in the case of the iPhone it does the entire process at once and thru its HDR software what usually can would be done manually with an SLR and say photoshop.

Best bet is take the picture with the focus being on the highest lit areas. I feel the darker areas will probably be better analyzed and compensated for than overexposed ones where there would be less data at least for the iphone where u have no manual control over it. Also, never shoot directly at the sun! It'll f up your CMS
