  • Did you ever figure out what was actually causing this noise? My 6.2 is doing the exact same thing. I have diesel smoke from the driver's side of the engine. Changed all the injectors already (2 were actually bad) but I can't get rid of this noise. Lifter is my guess too.

  • Let me know if you need a lifter. but you got to pull the head. I dont think it is.

  • What's that ticking sound like to you? This vid is pretty old. Last time i drove the truck a few days ago it was still ticking. It comes and goes. I'm leaning more towards an injector now since the tick is in perfect time with one cylinder's diesel rattle. I have a set of injectors coming this week for it. The ones in the truck were freebie genuine bosch injectors but have over 165K miles on them.

  • Don't know if injector cleaner is good to try. Some people add ATF into fuel tank and drive it for a while.

  • Ended up not being an injector. New injectors installed and there's no difference in the tick.

It's quieter now than it was in this video and sometimes it's really quiet too. Been driving the truck pretty much daily for weeks now.

  • Hm. that does sound a little like my 6.2 when its cold. Thanks for posting for comparison. Your noise seems slightly more pronounced than mine though. I don't think I've got excess lash anywhere since it goes away after the motor reaches operating temp, but it could be lifter related. I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

Make sure to post another video once you tighten up your valvetrain and/or replace your lifters.
