  • so our pines is in the midlle of the body

  • This is so well thought through :D

    Cheers

  • Your Videos helped a lot. Keep it up! :)

  • What everybody said + best online teacher EVER!

  • I absolutely love your videos, you are an inspiration and you are awesome sir...

  • To me, this was the most useful drawing guide i ve watched here on Youtube. Great job!

  • @petrocvet Thank you! Im really proud of this one! I appreciate the comment!

  • Great video man, thanks from Dublin Ireland

  • Thank you Merill this was greatly helpful for a poor man in Australia who wants to learn to paint and draw. Happy New Year 2012.

  • XD

  • Hey, I like to use the 8 head formula. It seems to be much easier that way because you can evenly divide it into eights.

  • boooooooyaaaaaaaa just what i needed!!! thanks sir :D

  • Great info . . . Very simple to remember too ;o)

  • God I love these kinds of videos. They realy speed up the learning!

    Thanks!

  • Pause at 1:52, tilt the screen up and down, and it looks like the heads are moving

  • lol, funny way of explaining the human proportion :)

Basic understanding of human proportion is quite vital if u want to draw a human figure. thanks for posting

  • you are awesome!!!!!

  • Really Really Really well done...by far the best/funniest/most practical/most informative/most interesting 'tutorial' clip i've seen on youtube...looking forward to watching more!! :D

  • Nice one thank u

  • Hahaha, Man you are funny! love your work and fun way to teach. Keep up the good work.

  • It makes a lot of sense xD thanks!

  • this is very helpful! i started figure drawing classes and im going to use these techniques. thank you

  • I'm glad you mentioned not memorizing/using a ruler. It's much better to draw "from the gut" using measurements merely as guideposts. Good video btw.

  • Omg Merrill this video is awesome, I totally miss having you as my art teacher but now you can teach the world.

I miss you and I wish you well with your videos =)

  • This was very helpful!Amazing! thank you :D

  • Interesting version on proportion. Unfortunately many instructors will tell you that the nipples and navel are terrible landmarks as they move around quite a bit from person to person. My school of thought comes from Robert Hale, who only uses bone landmarks that rarely change. I suggest to anyone to explore and you will find that this is true.

  • eww your head is under your armpit at 3:30

  • ur videos are really helpful.... its much appreciated... i am a self-taught 'artist' well i dont get to the final product as i would like.. but your videos helped out... since my basic problem is getting the proportions right onto the papper... ^_^

  • is down the upper leg from the inseam? And what is considered the bottom of the leg... the ankle bone of the bottom of the foot?

  • no wonder i'm so fugg.

  • realy helpfull

  • You are good! Congrats, you are better than my painting teacher :P

  • you're an awesome teacher, the best i've seen! (:

  • Where's the follow up to this Merrill?

  • cool :)

  • This is excellent. Honestly, it's the most helpful anatomy tutorial I've come across!

  • I'm gonna buy your book

  • man you r a graet teacher and i'm very glad thath I found your chanel....

I adore drawing and your videos and tutorials are very very helpful to me

    THANK YOU :)

  • you are amazing

  • Thank you so much, I was just looking for some helpful advice for a young friend who shows a lot of promise with her drawing, but she needed help with proportions. Amazingly this is the first video I clicked on and matches what I was trying to tell her perfectly, I love your style as well as your information. Thanks again... :0)

  • This was great!!! thank u

  • I laughed out loud when the skeleton lifted it's foot.

  • you should teach my teacher, he may learn something. =]

    Thanks Merrill

  • I just like the way you teach!!! Great job -love the video!!

  • really made sense to me! time to draw! thanks

  • I love this guy! Great teacher, funny and very informative.

  • Life-Drawing direct observation best choice.

  • Excellent as always!!!

  • Wow!! this is great very helpful Thanks Bro :D pls do more videos

  • Terrific video. I learned something and you made me laugh.

  • Thanks for this video! I knew several of the measurements previously, but you never learn them on the first try, and I learned some new ones as well. :) I'd been using an 8-heads measurement for a LONG time, and now that I've switched to 7.5 I see my figures always looked odd.

  • Ah, this has been very enlightening! Human proportions have always given me a lot of trouble, especially when the figure is in motion. I hope to learn more from you in the future. *subscribes*

  • i agree, nice video, and, can you draw?

  • Another unique measurement of the human body. The length of your inside arm from the inner elbow to you palm is the same length of your foot.

  • very good, iv read some of this from this book i brought, but it didnt give it in detail

  • Hello Merrill i hope you remember me. its nice to see that you are still enthusiastic about drawing and teaching others how to draw. Thanks for your time and effort in these videos.

  • hahaah Ur a funny. and this is very nicely done:)

  • @Djole0 I tried to make a dull subject semi interesting! :)

  • Very educational! Very good!

    Keep it up =D

  • @Maruschek Thank you :)

  • Great stuff & funny!

  • @StephenSaloArt I appreciate that! :)

  • This I already knew or guessed. (Though I admit, it IS nice to vindicated about the head length as compared to the height of the body thing. - I've often found myself noticing that people who held to the ... I don't what to call them 'old standards'? drew bodies which often seemed too long when compared average real life people.)

Well explained, humorous with a touch of charisma, yet still sticking to the art. Yup, definitely a good video.

It's worth subscribing for more of that flavor. :)

  • @PurpleGhost I appreciate that and I will try to keep it coming! :)

  • Even though I didn't read any previous videos, I knew subscribing before would be nice as I knew I need to know this kind of knowledge. Thanks for sharing that was very detailed and easy to understand for an very unartistic person(for now I hope xD) !

  • thank u 4this vid! u crammed a lotta info into 8min but u made it easty 2understand &follow

  • @Quoranation Im glad that it helped :)

  • This is cool, Definitely a must series. and Your from new york?

  • WOW..i didn't know drawing proportions required so much math. Very informative. LOL at 6:16

  • @cartoonblock I try to forget about that Math stuff Evan, but it pops up EVERYWHERE! :)

  • expensive and awkward.

    XD
