It's sad to see such a numb mom in such a passive role at this pivotal moment in her life, made to feel that she's no able and needs so much help, when in reality, she could do it! We wonder why the breastfeeding rate is so low! When a mother leaves her birth feeling she wasn't able to do it on her own, she carries this on to breastfeeding.Less than 2% of women are unable to make enough milk for their babies, but how many times have you heard that as a reason for bottlefeeding?

Of course, baby is mad. Aren't most of us humans born in hospitals treated like this baby? To a mother on narcotics too numb to respond normally, w/ a crowd of noisy strangers, & our first touch is stranger who manhandles us like we're a blob. Dr wishes every baby born like that? Totally alienated from the one person he knows? Newborns are fully aware & FEEL & REMEMBER everything. It's called imprinting. Looks like joke at first, but it's no joke. It's why most people are mad - abused @ birth.

They turned the beautiful and empowering moment of birth into a doctor glorifying medicated procedure...makes me ill actually, but congrats to the mom nonetheless. Not to mention the horror of this particular birth...pushing while flat on her back, the baby's cord being clamped immediately and then she is held up in front of the cameras instead of being passed to her mother.
