Just a question... Can someone give me authentic proof that the "solo" that he plays on Katy Perry's song "Last Friday Night" is actually him? When he gets really high it almost sounds electronic. I'm pretty skeptical whether that is really him. I've never heard him play that high and didn't know he even knew how (if that's really him at all). Not many players can play that high on tenor Lenny Pickett is the only well known player I can think of off hand that plays that high. I want proof...

@MrRandomstuff77 The brand hes promoting is probably a china made so don't buy it, but it depends how good are you on the alto,if your really good just by a professional sax witch run to about2,000-5,000,or if your a good player just get a good student model and a professional mouth piece,i use a student Alto Buescher u.s.a then says Aristocrat my dad got it in a auction it cost 1,000 and ive had it for about 3 years now and its good, the mouthpiece i use a old metal dukoff
I tried out his saxophones and it was not nice to play :/ it was uncomfortable and didn't sounds great its immediate response was diabolically repulsive it took me far to long to try and get used to it ONE horn i can recommend is a Liberty selmer its very affordable sounds great and the response is just fantastic upgrading to a tenor soon though i've had my eye on the P.Mauriat 86UL !!

Then - If you are in the market for quality horns - take a look at his Voodoo Rex / Super 400 (Tenor and Alto) / or his top of the line Cat.5 the Cat 5 is un-real but also sitting at $15,000.00. These are pro model horns

I just don't understand why people hate the "Kenny G" sound! The fact of the matter is, its his own, and he created his own style of music. Now whether think the songs he plays are easy, or his tone is lame and edited really doesn't matter. Because if you don't like him or his music, don't listen!
Honestly, Kenny G's soloing isn't that good. He only uses one type of scale every time he plays, which is perfectly fine if you're a rock musician or something, but if you claim to be a jazz musician, you have to play like one. At least learn a few other scales, like Mixolydian or Dorian or something. I just think Kenny G is a rock saxophonist attempting to play what he considers to be jazz. I'm not saying he sounds bad, I'm just saying he lacks the qualities of a true jazz musician.
I personally don't like Kenny G. Now before you start yelling at me, I want to say it's not because of his tone, or his soloing ability (which both are lacking). It's because of his arrogance. He took one of the recordings of Louis Armstrong, the most influential jazz musician of all time, and dubbed his mediocre, rudimentary soloing over top of it. By doing this he disgaced Louis Armstrong, Everyone he influenced, and everyone who influenced him.
I bought the saxophone on amazon for $600 and received this week. Is really really good and great sound for the price comparing with other intermediate saxophones of other brands which cost around $1,500 and over. Happy with my new saxophone alto e-series and no complaint.

Sure, his embouchure may be a bit unorthodox, but does it really matter? Dizzy Gillespie, one of the greatest trumpeters of all time, had great tone and he still puffed his cheeks. What's it really matter when in the end he's still amazing at what he does?

@ckala13 It's not neccessarily Kenny G's tone or technique that matters. It's just that, he lacks the tonal versatility to play jazz. It's kinda hard to understand unless you're a musician, but he only plays one type of scale every time he plays. Kenny G seems strong to me, but is his work strong? By the early 80s jazz in general was in the ICU. Only about five or six mainstays kept it in the broader public consciousness, G being one.

I just don't understand why people hate the "Kenny G" sound! The fact of the matter is, its his own, and he created his own style of music. Now whether think the songs he plays are easy, or his tone is lame and edited really doesn't matter. Because if you don't like him or his music, don't listen!

Honestly, Kenny G's soloing isn't that good. He only uses one type of scale every time he plays, which is perfectly fine if you're a rock musician or something, but if you claim to be a jazz musician, you have to play like one. At least learn a few other scales, like Mixolydian or Dorian or something. I just think Kenny G is a rock saxophonist attempting to play what he considers to be jazz. I'm not saying he sounds bad, I'm just saying he lacks the qualities of a true jazz musician.

I personally don't like Kenny G. Now before you start yelling at me, I want to say it's not because of his tone, or his soloing ability (which both are lacking). It's because of his arrogance. He took one of the recordings of Louis Armstrong, the most influential jazz musician of all time, and dubbed his mediocre, rudimentary soloing over top of it. By doing this he disgaced Louis Armstrong, Everyone he influenced, and everyone who influenced him.

I bought the saxophone on amazon for $600 and received this week. Is really really good and great sound for the price comparing with other intermediate saxophones of other brands which cost around $1,500 and over. Happy with my new saxophone alto e-series and no complaint.

hate his music thats ok ..but don't say he`s can`t play ..he is for sure one of the best sax players in the world..he is the only one you immediatly recognize after one note.he has a signature tone no one else has...he is like clapton,yngwie,hendrix,jeff beck,lukather in the sax world and he is THE ONLY SAXPLAYER who sold millions of albums over so many years...why is that???

@Copilot24 He produces superb tone and his technique is excellent. I'm not sure what you're talking about, but he's a masterful musician in all aspects. Sure, his embouchure may be a bit unorthodox, but does it really matter? Dizzy Gillespie, one of the greatest trumpeters of all time, had great tone and he still puffed his cheeks. What's it really matter when in the end he's still amazing at what he does?

@ckala13 It's not neccessarily Kenny G's tone or technique that matters. It's just that, he lacks the tonal versatility to play jazz. It's kinda hard to understand unless you're a musician, but he only plays one type of scale every time he plays. I'm not saying he sounds bad, I'm just saying if you want to play jazz you need to know more than just the blues scale. The blues scale is fine for rock, but you need more than thay for jazz. I just think he is a rock saxophonist trying to play jazz.

I hope you get to read this you are the best love that soprano and I'm pushing everything you offer towards my 13yr old son he is good . He currently plays the alto very very well. What bukowski means by "strong" is anyone's guess I guess..
Kenny G seems strong to me, but is his work strong? By the early 80s jazz in general was in the ICU. Only about five or six mainstays kept it in the broader public consciousness, G being one.
Good man good works...strong man strong work? A hundred years from now we'll know.
