  • The evidence for a vast number of benefits from Vitamin D is becoming mountainous. Anyone not taking at least 2000 IU a day is risking their health, and 5000 IU is much better. "Miracle vitamins" have come and gone before, but the difference here is that vitamin D isn't actually a vitamin.   • @drtheresaramsey too much Vitamin D (which is a fat soluble vitamin) will mean that it gets stored in the liver. In excess amounts (not 400IU or 1000IU but much higher doses) some problems CAN arise from toxicity.

  • I am a moderate sungazer, and am 56 years old. I do not need glasses. I also believe the sunngazing is a reason the usually calcified pineal gland becomes a useful organ again.

  • @ItOffishul Vitamin D allows one to process calcium. Vitamin K2 makes sure it goes into the bones and not in your arteries. So taking both together makes sense.

  • @troybr79 Fish is a good source of Vit D. Salmon contains about 8 micrograms per 100 g fish. Eat fish at least twice a week - if not take supplement of about 10 micrograms Vit D3 per day - especially if you don't get a lot of sunlight.

  • Too much vitamin d is dangerous, however too much vit d3 is not. And d3 is what he is talking about. D3 is what you get from sunshine. 30 minutes in the sun gives you about 10,000 iu. So if you are out all day, are you getting vt d3 overload? NO. Vit d3 is not dangerous. And in order to get your D from the sun, you have to have the uvb rays. When you use sunscreen that blocks the uvb, you are not getting your vitamin D. Vitamin D from the sun, converts to 25-hydroxyvitamin D, or D3.

  • Take Vitamin D3, The recommended daily allowance for a typical Adult is 10,000iu a Day. And 5,000iu (iu=international units) per day is enough for you to never become sick. And that is proven...Google it for yourself for more info =)

  • Vitamin D is fat-soluble which means taking too much can easily become toxic. Also the immune system cannot go "up" without going back "down". Therefore every vitamin and nutrient is important... no need to go on a craze, just take a multivitamin. Every year or so there is a "fix all" nutritional solution. The only thing to do is EXERCISE and EAT HEALTHY.

  • @stevetobias - vitamin A is the most toxic of all the vitamins, and even that vitamin takes more than 100 times overdose to be toxic. Don't buy that scaremonger.

    There is NO WAY you can cover the body's need for vitamins and minerals through "healthy eating" any more - it is long past the point where the nutritional value of most foods has dropped to small percentages of what it was 40 years ago when our soils were not as depleted as they are now.

Or diets: raw foods, vegan, low-carb, or what? Every possible diet claims the same thing, except that the vitamin D subject simply recommends one thing. Heightened intake of Vitamin C also has benefits that improve the immune system. Please Doctor provide extensive resources, with long term effects.

  • No, there is no such thing as taking too much Vitamin D, or else people that are in the sun all day, such as in the tropics would be affected, which is not the case. I take 5,000 International Units per day, because it really prevents colds, flu and cancer. For these benefits alone vitamin D is a wise choice for me. You take Vitamin D with Calcium to help absorb it better in the body.

  • @maniaconewheel Yes, you can find just Vitamin D3, I just bought my first box today from my local supermarket Tesco! If you take it with calcium you could be taking too much calcium which can cause you stones, so IT IS BETTER TO TAKE VITAMIN D3 ON ITS OWN.

  • @evakent3 Please don't state something you have no clue about. There has been studies showing that stones aren't caused by calcium. In fact, they found quite the opposite. But with any supplement, be sure to consult a healthcare professional (usually not MD's).

  • @AzzidReign so if you have a very slow calcium absorption rate and you are not absorbing calcium, where the calcium goes? I have full blown osteoporosis at a young age and so I have to be careful with calcium as I am not absorbing it into the bones. My doctor is an idiot, he has not prescribed to me anything. One thing I can say is that since I have been taking vitamin D3 (1000 units a day) I feel incredibly well full of energy, while before I was feeling tired and I was in bed by 10pm!

    Vitamin D uses magnesium when it works. Magnesium deficiency has been tied to headaches - like migraines. You might look at that. Too much magnesium will act like a laxative, so be careful with it.

  • This winter, I was exposed to an entire family of people going through cold/flu symptoms for SIX WEEKS....it was like a "sick house"

    I have been taking daily supplements of D-3 at least 5000 IU, some days up to 10,000 IU's.

    I stayed healthy the whole time, and still feel great...actually, better than ever.

  • I've been taking 4-6000 iu's of D a day every day this winter. I'm the only person in my office that has not been sick once this year. Right now my office is going through it's 3rd wave of illness. I tell people to take Vitamin D, take ionic silver, but they don't and so they keep getting sick and wonder why?

  • I felt a flu coming on to me and have been taking plenty of vitamin D with some bread and butter for absorption, and I am starting to feel so much better. It's still better to get out in the sun, but when you can't do that, taking tablets work great if you eat good fats with it to absorb it better.

  • butter and cinnamon on burnt toast, the charcoal (absorbs harmful metals) is good as well. Stay away from sugars, carbs that turn into sugar.

    If you have a juicer, onion, grapefruit (natural antibiotic) and ginger, 1tablespoon 2-3 times a day.

  • If you're hardcore, try raw garlic, white onion, horseradish root, fresh cayenne pepper, root ginger and apple cider vinegar blended together. sieve it and keep the pulp and use a few spoons to spice up your cooking. Use the liquid either as a hot sauce to accompany your meals (like Encona or Piri Piri sauce) or if you're brave have it neat in a spoon!

  • Great advice. Hmmm.. Trouble is, where I live I have to wait another 3 months before the prospect of seeing any decent sunshine! :) That is why other sources of D are important right now for those of us in winter.

  • doctors deal with people using a symptomatic approch ie they deal/treat your symptoms not the cause of your symptoms. if you cant sleep they give you sleeping pills. if your depressed they give you anti depressents etc etc do go to the doc unless you realy have too and certainly dont take the pills or potions they give you and definatly dont get injections off them coz they are full of mercury which is a nurologcal poison.

  • Many natural foods contain vitamin D. When it's not sunny and you can't produce so much of your own vitamin D, you can get it from Salmon, Herring, Oysters, Fish oils like Cod liver oil, Sardines and also the good old egg!

  • get some vit D, sunshine pills. I got 60 tablets for under £4. get prepared for the 'second wave' they claim to be coming in the fall.

  • It's ironic really when you think about it, where do most people with cancer spend most of their time...In doors ..with no exposure to vitamin d thus depriving them of this vitamin!
