is this reel actually made in malaysia or made in japan??because a tackle shop owner tell this reel actually made in malaysia but exported to japan and come back to malaysia and make this reel cost double the price
@darkmossie633 I don't have a problem with you so to speak. i don't know the year &model exactly, but there's calcutta 101 in the mid 90's. as for big game, afaik only penn & avet make the left hand version.
the 5001C was the only left-hand wind Abu made in those days
-other Abu stockists did not even stock this one, so the only choice was right hand retrieve multipliers!
so what happens?
all the anglers of that age had no CHOICE, and bought right-hand multis, thinking "Well, this must be the right way, as there are no left-handed multipliers available"
-so, the story goes on, there was no choice, so anglers got used to this inferior system
the principles of casting and retrieving like you do with fixed-spool reel
(I REPEAT, 95% of fishermen's choice) should be EXACTLY the same, using left-hand retrieve multiplier -AND you dont have to change hands on rod after casting!
-this American right-hand retrieve multiplier con, the BIGGEST ever in fishing reel
@darkmossie633 i believe this is subjective, with fixed spool, i reel with left hand. while for multiplier i cast with RH, transfer & palm to LH so winding by RH. i have both LH & RH baitcaster reels & can cast with both hands but still prefer cast & transfer method. YMMV.
In case you were wondering about the difference between the 2009 model and the previous version.... the computer response time is quickened from 1/1000th to 1/2000th of a second response time. The three settings internally are Nylon, Flourocarbon, and Braid (PE). Along with the 8 external settings. The reel is slightly smaller in overall size, and 20 grams lighter. True fishing porn.

many years trading experience
excuse my ignorance
however could you tell me when the first Shimano left-hand multiplier was made

hi pukau-thx for your considered replies
-i am from uk
i am mid fifties now, but in 1973, when Abu were all the rage, i went to my local
"modern-orientated" fishing tackle shop, to look for Abu multiplier
-left hand wind of course, as that is all i knew with my fixed-spool
reel experience
-to my amazement, they were all Abu righyt-hand retrrieve multipliers!
-apart from ONE! The Ambassadeur 5001C
and I bought i-there was no other choice though

next question:
(Using right-hand retrieve Shimano multilpier -there is no choice!)
presuming most people's right arm is the strongest, what the hell is it doing, if you are palying a 500lbs Marlin?
Answer:
it is doing the easier task of winding in, whilst the weaker left arm, is
doing the really heavy work of pumping in huge fish-totally crazy!
PS. of course Shimano USA rep would say that!

thx for reply pukau
-if you think what i say is true, how come Shimano do not make EVEN one
left hand retrieve multiplier?

make a left-hand version you fucking idiots!
-thousands of pissed-off left-hand wind fishermen are waiting
-did you know that 95% of fishermen use LEFT HAND retrieve fixed-spool reels??
-for fux sakes get rid of this American con, of right hand fretrieve multipliers being the only way, and your market researchers need sacking
darkmossie633 1 year ago
@darkmossie633 it's true what you say. but it's the other way around for multiplier reel. that what shimano usa rep said.

that cast at 1:09 makes me want to cry. an effortless 25 yard cast. just wish i could afford one.
