  • 1 for effort:)

  • you get better response and bass on the Fender Deluxe active made in Mexico

  • haha you made my day :D i saw one singlecoil, read your comment and hat to lough :D

ok. i diont wanna be mean.. ok here it comes.... throw away your shorts. they look like that thing your bass sounds like;)

    but well played although

  • I like the thin neck on the GL models but overall ,they sound like crap.

  • Slappa da bass Jobin!

  • lol heytimj :p

  • nothin like playing rush bass in your underware.

  • @heytimj what about smoking weed with no clothes?

  • nice work

  • ya, but is it an american jazz?

  • no, it's a japanese bass, actually... the Geddy Lee Signature edition..

  • @blah114a que buen bajo!!!

  • @OmertaMercenary69 it is hand crafted in japan with american electronics. geddy wanted his bass priced within reach of the working musician. i own one and love it. it took some work on the set-up, and living in northern indiana, it needs a bit of tweeking every time winter sets in. but it is as solid as any fender product i have owned.

  • really good (got the same bass) awesome bass right?

  • I really cannot stand this bass, honestly.. but I played it here at people's request.. I keep this bass, now, for e flat stuff.. Fender charging $1200 for this bass new.. is just laughable.. it's maybe a $600 bass tops.. in my opinion.. $400.

  • I like mine enough that I bought a second one. One I kept stock (except for the pickguard), the other I put Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups and an Audere preamp in. $1200's a bit steep, but if you want to sell yours for $400, let me know! :-D

  • I must admit that I wasn't too crazy about the Geddy Lee bass either. The only good thing about it is the super slim neck.

  • tradew you my pete wentz squier for it : )

  • DAAHHGAHGHAGHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA good luck wih that

  • i really like the bass but i dont like the buzz from the duncan designed pickups. i want to put in Dmarzio pickups.

  • lol

  • thts kinda weird cuz i absolutly love mine.. ii think its worth wht its priced at

  • @blah114a Bah...it's better of many american jazz basses. Can't really understand your opinion.

  • @MauCivil it's a wellmade bass.. it's just insanely priced.. that's just one issue.. it's also very top-heavy.. it does not sit well for a 4/5 - hour night of covers.. for me anyway.. it's a great bass, yes.. but it retails for $1200.. that's insane for a Japanese bass.. I don't understand how Fender can be in business charging what they do.. for US or Japanese basses.. that's just me.

  • yeah, when i first got sansamp i was like, woah! tubey! but it soon got annoying and i realized they just tryed to emulate a tube sound by adding treble which i ended up hating

  • this is awsome. i want that bass so bad. geddy ruls.

  • is that the American jazz bass

  • no, it's the Geddy Lee Japanese bass.

  • lol

  • nice cover and nice boxers

  • thanks

  • didnt see you already had it haha

  • I know the notes.. I agree with you.. however, it's really what I am used to doing, a lame excuse, I know.. but so many years of playing this song like that.. I have played it both ways, and find mine the most comfortable.. but I welcome thoughts, feedback..and if you post this song, I would like to see it. It's amazing to me there are so few people playing this song live, much less on here. It requires, I think, energy.

  • there is a way easier position to play that part after the synth. it makes your hand cramp a lot less

  • VALE LA PENA VERLO!!

  • I was thinking about getting this bass, would you recommend it? Anything bad about it I should know?

    Thanks and great cover!

  • as far as jazz basses go, I recommend it. I think a Fender Precision sounds better, but also believe this bass is great live. Its output is really really low, though.. just be prepared to boost its signal. I love its playability.

  • The fret backslap on that bass is a little to much to handle.

  • yes, thankfully, in a band setting, it's not noticeable..

  • MUY BUENO!!

  • thanks

  • wow the solo is way too high and is that a geedy lee signature?

  • geddy*

  • Geddy Lee signature, yes. I cannot really record well.. I use a digital camera with a very small mic.. unless you mean the notes are too high..

  • the notes of the solo yes they are to high

  • I am thinking about this one still..

  • its goes from low notes to higher, as in, first d-a then g-d

btw man, I just got my geddy lee, I love it, im trying to get higher treble, do you have any tips?

  • ok.. I may not change.. I had front row for a live Rush show and Geddy is playing it, or played it the way I do here.. I am not sure, though. As for treble.. the way I get treble out of this bass is to decrease the neck pickup.. and just leave the bridge highest possible, with treble.. personally, I like both pickups all up, with treble all up, with a very used, worn set of round wounds..

  • alright man

I have a very stupid question though, and your gonna laugh

Which knob controls what? There is no documentation from fender that explains anything about the guitar. Going from small knob to biggest know, what are their functions? Thx

  • The knob that is closest to the neck is the neck pickup.. and when you increase that, the bass gets boomy and bassy.. If you decrease the middle knob, that's the bridge pickup.. the control closest to the bridge is bass/treble.. all the way up on this control=max treble.. all the way down =no treble.. the middle control gives the bass its growl.. and brightness. treble does also.

  • thanks

I cant wait to get some good amp for xmas, then im gonna get a boss pedal to mess with effects. Thanks for the help, I knew the small knob made a huge difference, and the largest knob, the neck pickup volume makes everything sound bad on my small kustom amp.

  • Im getting the same bass except in sunburst, im just trying to see how it plays.

what kind of amp you using btw?

  • Ampeg SVT3Pro with 2x10. have fun. I have since switched to Genz Benz and it blows the aMpeg away in every way possible..

  • I kinda want to hear a Rush song out of this amp of yours, you should play Red Barchetta or Witch Hunt.

  • The Geddy Lee isn't nessacerily picked for the sound. The sound can always be modified like here. I picked the GL because of the feel. That neck is freakin sweet.

  • I concur.. thin necks cannot be beaten..

  • i'd preffer a thicker neck because i get cramps in my hand from thin necks

  • The EBS sounds great... I will buy myself one after my birthday. It's expensive but it's worth the money

  • I think you will like it. I do!

  • what is the difference with this pedal?

  • more warmth, tube sound. You cannot beat EBS.. I do not use the compression.

  • nice cover lot of low end though would have liked to here a little bit more high end. overall very nice job

  • I might upload a 3rd version, but I really do not prefer the top-end of this Fender Jazz. I really have come to dislike "bright-sounding" bass.

  • fully understandable. thanx for the reply and again nice job

  • What bass effects would be good to get the tone?

  • I use EBS' compressor pedal, but only the tube simulator.. no compression.. that is about it, really.. if you are asking about the tone in this song. I think it's mostly touch and Ampeg.. it's a thin tone, if you ask me.

  • Do you think I could get the tone on a Boss ME-50b multi effect pedal?

  • I do not know.. I would think if I got the tone without it (?), the Boss is unnecessary. I think effects, preamps, etc just add noise. EBS is the exception.

  • may I suggest purchasing Amplitube 2 I use that for playing bass i get a similar tone

  • yes. will check that out someday. I get a lot of complaints and compliments about my tone.. the Jazz is really not the bass for me overall.. it's just too noisy for my taste.

  • LOL Jazz Basses are nice Geddy Lee is a user of 1 all i have is a cheap Memphis 4 string The Main thing I like about it is that it kinda looks like Cliff Burtons bass

  • you mean cliff's rickenbacker?

  • no

    /watch?v=6O9zMnwD65Q

it kinda looks like that just no active humbucker

  • Is your Fender Jazz made in America or Mexico? Just wondering because I just recently got one that was made in Mexico and I guess they're not as good as quality or something but I thought it sounded good (besides the fret buzz that I'm getting fixed, it was a used bass)

  • Actually by the looks of it, thats a Geddy Lee Fender J Bass. Therefore it was actually made in Japan. Their decent quality, better than a made in Mexico but not quite as good as an American made J bass.

  • I had responded, but yes.. I prefer the GL bass over the US ones, actually (of the 20 I sampled).

  • great tone! im thinkin about pikin one of those bad boys up...

  • is that the geddy lee jazz bass?

  • Hello, yes.

  • Once again very impressive. I own this same bass (love it) but I hate to admit i liked the modulus better! haha.

  • Me too, but the Fender Jazz does in fact, for me, come off better in a live setting. It's weird, but the Fender Jazz sounds better in a band setting than the Modulus. It reminds me of Ampeg.. it's just "good," to my ears, but by itself, it's just ok.
