  • ahhh, the days when a service was was provided. nowadays, nobody gives a flying f**k :(

  • Bring back British rail! The intercity 125 is a million times better than that voyager and pendolino rubbish!

  • station at the end is bristol temple meads

  • I have a piston from one of the 43,s when they replaced the Paxman Valenta engines, it is big.

  • Any one spot the kid playing with the model HST on the train it's self??

  • lovely video

  • Awesome!

  • i love the hsts l my fav was 43119 now 433`9 with an mtu so sad!

  • It makes me proud to be British. Oh, hang on a minute, no it doesn't. Even then, the rest of Europe, Japan and the US was light years ahead of us, and electrified. Still, at least they looked good.

  • @bluebus270 No, "the rest of Europe" certainly wasn't "light years" ahead of this. Nor was the U.S.

  • A triumph of British train building. 125s are whisper quiet and silky smooth when pulling away and stopping.

Britain should design and build some new main line trains.

  • I agree, the intercity 125 was and still is the pinnacle of British ingenuity and engineering, having now been in reliable profitable service for 34 years.

Contrary to what you said though, standing next to a valenta powercar when pulling away would deafen you beyond comprehension, but still that says something about the trains' passion and character; something missing from johnny foreigners trains nowadays.

We must stop the dilution of the british spirit; our pride and our voice!!!

  • Standing next to a valenta power car ceratinly would deafen you! What I meant was from the passenger's seat in coach.

  • is there anywher in the UK where these trains actually reach 125mph?

  • Tons of places on the East Coast mainline.

  • There are also places on the Great Western Main Line.

  • Fabulous video of Britain's finest train.

  • I fell out of a 125 carriage -years ago. At york station I was going back yem to the toon.

The train pulled away, and some tyke from York wanted off,so he opened the door as the train was accelerating and jumped. He didnt realise how quickly the 125 picked up speed,so attempted a change of mind.I tried to pull him back on but his momentum pulled us both off-lucky the the platform allowed us to attempt to run-oh the fun.,

  • What happened to britain?

I mean we're pretty useless these days aren't we.

  • these trains are still in use today with cross country if you have never heard of them go on wikipedia and type in cross country trains

  • I wonder also if they will be 125 sleepers with 43's at front and back....i wonder....

  • I wish i was born in the 70's to see the 125 come out ^^

Trains are my passion, the trains noise is like a soothing song to me ^^ i hope to see the IC125 when i go to england for holiday ^^ Best train ever IC125

  • Anyone notice that the prototype had a Mark 1 buffet car?

  • How nice to see 43021 when new!

  • thats a nice train. i love british and irish railways...eventhought they are to many railcars these days.

  • great video, long live the 125

  • The 125 in its day was a world beater. Britain's railways are not a joke in that we run one of the world's most comfortable high speed trains-i.e. the 125.

  • What a ridiculous statement. A Mk3 coach is a Mk3 coach whether pulled by a HST or an 08 shunter. Britains railways ARE a joke, a fundamentally victorian system chronically underfunded since world war one. Compare with the TGV (France) or ICE (Germany). Japans system makes us look like cavemen.

  • What a stupid reply, you dickhead. Deltics were only employed on the ECML whereas HST's were on all 3. Only the other day i rode on one from Aberdeen to York, whereas the only place i can catch a Deltic is on some preserved track with a load of men with beards standing around. Please think before you post. Deltics were great, but not that great.

  • To be fair, the IC125 was one of the few good things BR ever did. While it doesn't compare to thigns the TGV or the Shinkansen sets in Japan, for something built in 70's Brittain it does a decent enough job. Hell it's only when they brought them in BR made a profit for the first time in 28 years.

Labour should never have nationalised the railway in 1948 anyway :(

  • To be fair, BR in its final days was a very efficient railway in that Freight was breaking even, InterCity was in profit, NSE was also in profit and modernising, leaving Regional Railways the only real loss maker.

The WCML was TSR free (although with a line speed of 110), The ECML and Chiltern were upgraded on budget, and the rails and rolling stock (despite being very old in some cases) was in good condition. Then it got privatised and look what happened!

  • around 2:30 could have come out of a 70's star wars movie

  • The full version! Cool, thanks. In 1976 this was the fastest train in Europe and North America. Can you believe that? Long live the 125.

  • Dude, in 1976 my Gran with her zimmerframe was faster than the trains in Europe and North America! She's still faster now.....

  • Sir, Given that you don't actualy mean that seriously and France, Italy and Germany had excellent rail systems in the 1970s this doesn't detract from my point. The 125 is still dead impressive and revolutionary in its time.
