He's using the quality of poison (harmful substance to life) to describe a girl he wants to be in a relationship with who he loves, despite knowing she's bad for him and she's a sadist too, hence the lyrics 'I want to love you but I'd better not touch, my pain, your thrill etc', Despite this, he still loves her, so doesn't want to lose her either, hence the lyrics 'I don't wanna break these chains'.
