  • If you look, some of the fighting is just a repeat looped over and over again. They just speed it up at times so you dont notice. This is barely a fight scene.

  • and just to say the 40 thieves by sight alone are the most feared lookin dudes alone

  • wish fightin in movies was as realistic as this and ppl fight with balls stead of guns though dought some1 other than bruce lee will ever be as bad ass as Bill in real life I mean the dude took like 7 ppl out by himself.....................while walking O_O

  • Daniel day Lewis is the best actor ever to be on this planet. Great of one of many scenes of his. No horses they couldn't afford food

  • @TheWerewolf72 yeah he has that face you just love

  • I would have added scenes like horses crying, and Big Bird getting stabbed, and a nun jerking off a pig. Did you guys notice that the fight scenes are repeated?

  • @CoasterBeach YES, GANGS OF NEW YORK IS VERY GOO AND IT COULD BE GREAT OR A MASTEPIECE, but it isnet!....also TEH DEPARTED despites there is a "remake" it is great...but this 2 film arent the best of scorsese....scosese best works where in the 70s , 80s and mid 90s

  • This is like mortal kombat. Only that Kahn's army are know-nothing natives.

  • geez, and gangs today think they are intense...

  • What does he say at 2:26?

  • Epic!

  • Rangers VS Celtic, this is Glasgow after an Old Firm Game....

  • Spain with muslims should be like this

  • lol crips n bloods ain't got nothin on them. lol gangsin the movie wear blue n red better :) specially the 40 thieves they look scary

  • that club weapon has been used by africans and bein that carthage and among others been and even settled in celtic lands no surprise really. I wouldn't wanna get hit by that I know that

  • gabriel's sountrack is so epic, hard to imagine something better.

  • I was born in Mayfeild Heights, Ohio. I am neither a Communist nor a National Socialist. I used to be a Democrat, but now I'm Libertarian. I Have no intenion of being run out nor kicked out.

  • Music = Signal To The Noise

  • i love the scene before this, so much fucking tension!!!

  • phoenicians are not from iran wat are you talkin about

  • Lmao, the guy on the right at 1:36 carrying that bat thing almost slips.

  • Bad-ass Monk,man...Monk

  • can you get ride of the dumb “Mafia Tube” logo?

  • back then gangsters were as tough as steel but now u just get idiots running around with guns.

  • at 3:08 look to neeson's right ITS JOHN C. REILLY FROM STEP BROTHERS!!!! XD

  • Bill killed the Priest in a pussy-ass way

  • @eviilhomerr At least he shouted out his name.

  • @Zellig to make killing him in a pussy ass way easier

  • @eviilhomerr Won't deny that.

  • Love it!! I'm a civil war reenactor and we talk about this movie all the time in our unit. We even have an Irish guy in there that dresses a lot like Bill's gang.

  • there was something about Gangs of new York that was missing

  • The badassery it's too much

  • I still don't get this movie. Why are Bill the Butcher and the natives so opposed to Roman Potpourri?

  • @austrianrationalist Roman Popery* Because the Irish were Catholic and the US and the Natives were Protestant

  • @austrianrationalist " I still dont get this movie. Why are Bill the butcher and the natives so opposed to roman POTPURRI??"Youre kiling me haaahaha...Can´t stop laughing man.Well,in the 1850´s the hatred for roman potpurri amongst poor, hardworking americans in the potpurribizniz really escalated. It was cheaper, smelled better, looked prettier. It had to be settled for good n all who held potpurriway over the five points. It was a dangerous trade back then.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually Butcher Bill is speaking against the Irish Catholics. He says "against the Roman POPERY" The Catholic Pope. Not Potpourri. No he's not speaking about a new trade in incense :) But Bill is coming from a sense of pure bigotry which opposes everything "un-American": immigrants, blacks, Catholics, Irish immigrants who represent labor competition. As well the Civil War is going on and most Irish immigrants - ANY immigrants- were met at Ellis Island and immdtly conscripted. No potpourri :)

  • @peepalot Are you kidding me? Can´t you see the qoute?? Hehe, read and SEE what I am LAUGHING AT! The guys quote...he wondered why the natives where so opposed to roman potpurri...and I thought it was comedy gold. I took his beyond silly comment and ran with it...why would I laugh otherwise? And now....you give me a history lesson.Thank you sir.Now I know for certain potpurri was not involved....wow.

  • Respond to this video... Ah! I see what you mean! My apologies! I was just slightly alarmed that someone might think that...yeah nevermind :) Also I'm a MISS!! and an American historian. It's habit for me to make corrections. YOU may not have thought he was talking about Potpourri but....I teach and I've heard stranger. So training dies hard. :) Also I didn't see the original comment. Definitely comedy gold you are correct! :)

  • @peepalot I´m sorry....miss. Well,if youre a historian and you know we live in a world where all people aren´t exactly sharp tools in the shed,I can see your need to correct me. Afterall, roman potpurri is and always will be a sensitive and very interesting subject :D

  • Comment removed

  • @Sumumabitch78 Indeed!! Roman Popery has spawned lovely potpourri in fact. I always enjoy that element of mass myself :D Scorsese is the narrator of the times. Even the dimmer bulbs agree! :D But the foreign hordes of whores you know...can't trust 'em to see what's good art. Makes me shake my head in wonder. Oh well!! Butcher Bill handles those incense traders, the damned foreign whores! :)

  • Is the man on Bill's left the same Native who is one of his henchmen throughout the rest of the film?

  • fuck this scene give us the final fight..

  • @roamingsoul80 do you watch the film???...this first 15 minutes were the best of the film!...the final battle could be better i think.....

  • fuck yea

  • plus to be real every single person is a decedent to africa so might wanna checc that out. My homie Heinrich is german(he found out he's from the Saxonii tribe that stayed behind in germany) and his blacc ancestory is to the Tunisians who just so happen is the modern name for Carthage and on his mom side her ancestors are franco-german and blacc ancestors are from Ethiopia. pretty cool huh I just need to find out mine

  • @GQSmoke Carthage was MAJORITY BLACK I mean come on they lived in africa as well as mingled with the Numedians, lil bit the egyptians and some ppls in Central africa sorry that's basically black on my book.

  • @GQSmoke That's not true. Carthaginians were once Phoenicians, and Phoenicians originated from Modern Iran. So they were most likely to be Aryans, or similar to Near-East people. "Blacks" and Africans are not synonymous. I can only agree part of the Carthage population must be Blacks, and Black mercenaries played a great role in Carthage army as Celts, Gauls and Greeks had all participated importantly in Roman army and society.

  • also there are loads of unmixed ppl so wrong calculations there I am happy to be Jsmican, Puerto Rican Blacc Foot and Cheroke Indian. Not proud of the Cherokee part cuz they helped enslave my ancestors. Now just need to fnd my african ancestors

  • The Warriors 1910 :) can you image playin a warriors like game in this time man that'll be cool I wouldn't fight Hell Cat Maggie though

  • german 60% really really blaccs, latinos and asians outnumber 1 race of white ppl in this case germans now if all whites together than yea believable of like 60%. now usa a celtic nation HELL NO you gotta be high to believe that specially since there isn't much celts to begin wit. hell if thats the case this is a blacc or even better mexican country

  • 'shimmy she wobble' is correct and otha turner and the rising star fife & drum band performed it. it is available on itunes.

  • The O'Connell Guard

  • the real bill the butcher envy daniel's epicness *sigh* if only he wasn't a racist in this movie

  • you can't just have blaccs without addin our Indian and Chinese brothas who suffer near just as much as blaccs chinese just missin slavery which is good cuz no1 should ever experience that real talk. Other than them no1 in America suffered as much as blaccs and the REAL NATIVES of America. Blaccs suffered the harshest and longest of anybody in america and the world, it makes no since to be slaves for over 400 years

  • 4:11- I just realized how Valve got the idea for the Hunter in Left 4 Dead.

  • @johnp0729 lol

  • @johnp0729 I read a book about that chick. Her name is Hellcat Maggie

  • 4:13 Suprise demon woman attack. O.o

  • Oh god. 4:10 I always laugh my fucking ass off.

  • This movie is proof that good film is not dead.

  • honestly, did anyone else besides me think of that scene from anchorman........like if you know what im talking about

  • wish those hats would come back into style

  • 5:05 ftw

  • I honestly think the Director went with the wrong choice of adding such music to this battle scene. I remember being annoyed by it years ago when I watched it on tape release.

  • @sourcemaster "the director" is MARTIN SCORSESE on of the best living directors and that reputation has it since 35 years ago! he has made...TAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL, GOODFELLAS, THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, THE LAST THEMPTATION OF CHRIST, ASFTER HOURS, THE AVIATOR, THE DEPARTED, SHUTTER ISLAND, CASINO, ETC! I LOVE the MUSIC in this sequence, i respect you opinion if you didnt like it!(the music), but i think it is perfect, make the scene wokrs better for me!

  • What a lot of crap ... a big gangfight with a girl in the 1880's ... nonsense

  • @boum62

That character was based off of a real woman named "Hellcat Maggie".

  • @boum62 Read up on Hellcat Maggie everything from the sharpened teeth and claws is historically accurate, I know it sounds crazy.

  • @boum62 a girl...so what? a woman for you only has to be a housewife???...you were in the 1880s??? "this a lot of crap" has 10 OSCAR NOMINATIONS including the main categories: DIRECTOR, PICTURE, ADAPTED SCEENPLAY, ACTOR,ETC.

  • @Gaston088able - I am questioning the historical accuracy of a successful film. The Godfather had loads of historical inaccuracies ... see the documentary on it on you tube. Great films but limited to some extent by inaccuracy. Best wishes

  • @Gaston088able - I am questioning the historical accuracy of a successful film. The Godfather had loads of historical inaccuracies ... see the documentary on it on you tube. Great films but limited to some extent by inaccuracy. Best wishes.

  • @boum62 ...let me explain something to you!! this film wasent made for being historical accuracy, because it is an interpretation of events happen on those years, following facts that did hapen but deliberately without 100 of accuracy! So bein acurate or no, it is not something to critizes because that is no wat is about!

  • Bill killed 4 guys

  • bill must have freaked out 4 ppl

  • fuckin prods

  • nooo qui gon! not again!!

  • Whoever flagged this video should have to fight bill...

  • so john c reiley's character was on liam neeson's side (because he was irish)?, then became a cop? only to have Leo's character end up killing him?, who was the son of Liam Neeson's character? im confused a little

  • @ThePistons4life John's character was a Dead Rabbit in the beginning but after Priest Vallon was killed and the Dead Rabbits disbanded he became a cop, a very crooked 1 who worked for whoever had the most power which was the Nativists and the Butcher, he lost his way so to speak

  • @KingOfConnacht90 thank you for that seriously...i mean it makes perfect sense i was just to dumb to put that all together lol..thanks again....love this movie

  • Hellcat Maggie is a badass!

  • haha this is really a "no irish allowed" sentiment

  • 0:05 Battlefield Bad Company 2 Map :D

  • need more splashing blood

  • You tell Vallon! I'm gonna paint Paradise Square red with his blood! 2 COATS! I'll festoon my bed chamber with his guts! As for you Mr. Tammany fuckin' Hall! You come down to The Points again and I'll dispatch you by mine own hand!

  • nice description

  • editing mistake at 5:22 - priest gets his arm cut off and then the next scene was like he wasn't even touched.

  • @macbeasty it wasn't cut off it was really wounded though

  • @kiryu2000

but it wasn't wounded at all. if you look in next scene when he get stabbed, he has one of his hands on the guys arm and the other on his neck and no blood on his arm. this is definitely an editing mistake.

  • @macbeasty Its not like the footage didn't exist until they edited it. That part was entirely intentional, if not for his wounded arm, he would have most likely attacked the Butcher right then and there. I think that part was entirely intentional, also, maybe there were just two people who looked similar?

  • Was the music not by U2 ??

  • This is a country of immigrants.

  • Can anyone enlighten me as to the name of this song?

  • When BIll first enters he looks so friggin bad ass!!!

  • what a fucking battle cry by bob the butcher at the end

  • "Then may the Christian lord guide my hand against your Roman popery!"

Fuckin' love the way he delivered that.

  • NO, QUI-GON! NOT AGAIN!

  • coward used his own guy to kill the priest

  • does anybody else wanna know what that fricking song was?

  • @jow0RISE0 shimmy she wobble

  • @jow0RISE0 Peter Gabriel Signal To Noise

  • Peter Gabriel - Signal to Noise Instrumental

  • Jesus christ that kid is fuckugly.

  • BUT NO HAND SHALL TOUCH HIM!

  • Holy shit it's John C Reilly at 3:10, Boats and Hoes!

  • notice the gang leaders and old school OGs walk toards eachother while the lesser no rank soldiers run towards eachother even Maggie if you notice is pointin towards I guess her 1st meal. Daniel is among the top 10 actors in my view fucc Leonardo. Can you imagin guys still fightin like this or even modern armies with just ancient weapons lol we'll see who the toughest gang and army is when range weapons and vehicles aren't in the mix

  • The old guy with the sabre on the left of Bill

    YEEEEEAAAAAH his dead first

    LOL

    Awesome ass fighting scene

and Daniel Day Lewis is even more fucking awesome

  • no gang wars like that these days

  • 4:10

Whats with the creepy ass chick with the Freddy Krueger claws? Either way, awesome movie.

  • @MiDSinister That character is based on somebody called Hellcat Maggie. I did not believe anybody could have ever seriously fit that description, but I guess I was wrong. She filed her front teeth to points and had brass claws.

  • As the scene progresses, why is there a kind of rock music playing amidst all the carnage?

  • The song is Signal To Noise (Instrumental) by Peter Gabriel.

  • The world would be a better place if everyone still fought like this instead of shooting each other.

  • @Dop122

Hell yeah brotha'! Sucks that any punk off the street can buy an automatic weapon. Real men bash, slash, cut, rip, break, stab, and motherfucking dismember! Not like the pussies who are out of shape and need to keep their fingers on a trigger.

  • @Dop122 killing would be about ∞ times scarier

  • @Dop122 well uhh well hmmm will mwould u like getting sniped or spear threw the head?

a axe to the chest or a 50 cal to the stomach?

  • @soap1st It does not matter either way I'd still be dead.

  • @Alekothegreat My question also, someone tell...........

  • check out my video pleaze people. ive written music to this scene so let me know what u think

cromzy beatz- gangs of new york

  • I think Daniel Day Lewis is incredibly sexy with that moustache hahaha im so weird.

  • my favorite part of the entire movie

  • One movie they should remake.

  • nowa days you got pussy 13 year olds using guns an shooting up houses

  • I always LOVED this movie, only one of the longer features i had NO PROBLEM sitting through. Extremely underrated yet one of my all time favourites.

  • Bene!

  • 6:03 He's got a booger...

  • Best battle scene ever!

  • sad as shit when lewis's character killed the big guy with the bludgeon.... also idk if any1 else was but i was severely disappointing when their last battle was interrupted by gov intervention by an unrelated event =((

  • @ragglefraggle09 yeaaaaah...the government always ruins everything !

  • @ragglefraggle09 govt. intervention is baaaaaad

  • @ragglefraggle09 yeah i was ready for a full scale racial/class war! but no.....

  • @ragglefraggle09 I thought that it really sent the message that the rivalry between the Natives and the Dead Rabbits (or Bill and Amsterdam) was so intense, they didn't give a shit what was going on, they were going to kill each other in the streets no matter what.

  • @40Pacino

yea but.. you gotta think about that stuff afterwards just to appreciate it... still hurts when your expectations get shat on lol, but yea your interpretation is a perfect justification. it'll probably get me through that scene on multiple viewings lol

  • @ragglefraggle09 I was disappointed, I wanted to see Leo get his ass kicked again by the Butcher...

  • 1:15 I drink your milkshake!

  • He's an unbelievable actor and all but he does a terrible irish accent he absolutly butchers it

  • @leh475 who liam neeson? LOL liam neeson is irish silly

  • this fight scene is crap. Star wars is more realistic...

  • @apocklington1 Yeah I guess shooting lasers and light-sabers are more realistic than butcher knives and clubs.

  • @apocklington1

0/10 that was so terrible i think you gave me cancer

  • dicaprio really showed his talent in this movie!

The emotion behind his words in every movie he stars in you can just feel his words when he says them

  • 3:01...dude to the left of priest bearing that head spiker is badassas

  • FUCK YOUR ACTING, I WATCH THE FILM FOR THIS!

  • why the hell would you fight a butcher?

  • @Wullieob1888 Iwhat the fuck you talking about motherfucker I wasn't disrespecting the irish i was just saying the hatred for the irish back then is the same as the hatred for mexicans today in the U.S. which obviously you don't live in if you use the word wanker dumb shit.

  • same here in england !

    we have paki's taking over

  • @Godzillavsjason your a wanker biggest majority of Americans have Irish blood in their line some where don't ever diss the Irish ya cock jockey Daniel day Lewis is part Irish and ge plays a "native" YA PRICK

  • Somebody is a crusty bitch.

  • Bill the Butcher = one of the greatest and most repulsively evil charatcers in cinema history. The music in this scene is pretty awesome, too. Great movie.

  • this movie is so much like today just swap the Irish for Mexicans same shit.

  • awesome

  • I came

  • thats legit what they used back then, either past down weapons or crudely made, when their marchin thru the building you can see some guys working on anvils

  • WTH kinda weapons ARE they, im seeing medieval weapons left right and centre... did they raid the medieval section of the museum? flanged maces, wicked axes and a arming sword, in the 1800's

    wierd

  • Honestly, the realism in this scene was pretty bad. I mean, Liam Neeson losing? He wouldn't have even needed any gang, he could've taken all of natives, lol. Good movie though.

  • happy st pattys day lol

  • "WHO IS THIS UNDER MY KNIFE!?"

Best line from a psychopathic/racist murderer.

  • How the hell can someone not like this?

  • Daniel Day-Lewis' best role, EVER!!!!

  • Thats the White Race I respect not Cheap Suit Money Grabing Pricks!
