Sometimes music is more about just someones voice.the combination of the simplicity in their tone and the music makes is perfect. I cant imagine someone like lauren hill singing Rilo Kiley songs. She has a good voice but that would just sound wierd. If eveyone sounded the same then it would be boring. And cat powers songs are a bit boring and all sound the same. Her voice is what makes the songs. As for RIlo Kiley...the songs speak for themselves.
