It's always interesting to see these soldiers become conscientious objectors just when they're about to be deployed. They have no problem putting on the uniform when it comes time to receive their salaries, the meals in the chow halls, and the free healthcare/dentalcare and all other benefits that come along with it. The fact of the matter is that deployment is hard, but that's something you accept when you sign the enlistment contract. Weaseling out when the going gets tough is cowardly.
War is never a pleasant affair. Only a person who lived in a bubble for 18 years would be ignorant of that when they sign up. My brother is on his 2 tour in Afghanistan after serving another 2 in Iraq. His motivation isn't enjoyment but service.

I am a Marine(93-96). I was deployed to Somalia, and left just ahead of the Black Hawk incident. This Marine is correct. I listed what the fuck I did below. To clarify, our mission in Somalia was to secure the Mogadishu and the surrounding area, which we did. Our AAV took small arms fire almost immediately after we landed at the beach near the airport. No casualties, but we handed the Somalis their asses on a plate for shooting at us. I and three other Marines received the Medal of Valor for pulling Somali children out of a burning shack our second day in.

Why was he in Iraq killing innocent people? I was in Fallujah Iraq and I never seen any Marine's kill innocent people. There is always Casualties of War, but that's part of war. We have to go through so many rules of engagement hard to kill innocent people. Not sure what he even did over there, we don't even know his MOS. It's always interesting to see these soldiers become conscientious objectors just when they're about to be deployed. They have no problem putting on the uniform when it comes time to receive their salaries, the meals in the chow halls, and the free healthcare/dentalcare and all other benefits that come along with it. The fact of the matter is that deployment is hard, but that's something you accept when you sign the enlistment contract. Weaseling out when the going gets tough is cowardly.

If you truly object to it, here's a novel idea: DON'T SIGN UP! Signing a contract that demands military service and then double backing a just a cheap political, attention-seeking stunt.

I was deployed to Somalia with the 3rd Amphibious Assalt Battalion back in 93. We ended up killing lots of civilians, and ultimately pissed off the entire population, which got more of our troops killed. We have no business in Iraq. Our military murdered women and children over there for no reason.

I am a Marine(93-96). I was deployed to Somalia, and left just ahead of the Black Hawk incident. This Marine is correct. The US military does not fight for freedom and the defens of the American people, that's just what they tell the people who are stupid enough to believe it, usually conservatives. Which by the way was the first ground troops in Iraq. My AAV was hit with 4 RPGs and machine gun fire going into Baghdad on April 10th with several casualties. I was decorated with the NAM with combat V, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Action Ribbon. What the fuck did you do?

I listed what the fuck I did below. To clarify, our mission in Somalia was to secure the Mogadishu and the surrounding area, which we did. Our AAV took small arms fire almost immediately after we landed at the beach near the airport. No casualties, but we handed the Somalis their asses on a plate for shooting at us. I and three other Marines received the Medal of Valor for pulling Somali children out of a burning shack our second day in.

I know that when he signed for the Army, he was going to serve his country, but in a fair cause. That war definitely wasn't worthy of any kind of patriotism or sense of duty compliment. I would be ashamed. No, he is a Marine and a man with morals, real honor. Real honor is when you stand up for what is right. He felt that the war was unjustified, and the results were other's lives. If you can kill a person and have the conviction that it is not justified, then you are not only dishonorable, almost non-human. @BoboCarsi In addition, because the US is a sovereign state, the UN cannot dictate our policies. We got approval from our congress (from both democrats and republicans) to invade. That's all our constitution requires. Also, don't forget that we did still find some WMDs (in the form of chemical/biological weapons) and Saddam made a mockery of the UN weapon inspectors and cease fire which was set up by the UN.
