you do a funny wrist twisting thing before you throw with your left hand, and you dont actually pull your chest open with it, you just kinda bring it in to your side a little bit. should feel your chest stretch and contract.
I don't think it's good to ever put your foot behind the other behind foot when doing crossovers...if your a beginner get into the habit of making the crossover smooth and under control...forget doing a crawlstep.

thanks for having this training video! i really hope this will help with my throwing and technique. im currently a sophomore and im throwing mid 130's and low 140's (which is pushing it right now). im hoping to qualify for states next year cause i only have 10 more ft to go
yeah in massachusetts its 150ft to qualify in division 3 and 4, and division 1 and 2 have to throw 152ft, but i made states soo im pretty stoked, i threw a 152.9 ft
Nice congrats, Ive been throwin javelin for a month and my first throw went 150'3'' we had our districts and i threw a 166'1'' to take 2nd place and top 2 go to state
hah this really makes me see how much of a joke vermont track and field is. to qualify for states in division 1 for javelin, you only have to throw 130 feet
to snicklefighter - wow..that's is kind of a joke, but yet again you do get the benefit of going to states and seeing how other top throwers throw and get some experience from it
to dresslerwrestler - good luck to you too! i'm heading there tomorrow! and you throw 166'1" and you're ranked in the top 250 out of 7k? where would you find that out? cause i want to know where i am at!!
im an american with the fork grip. current pb is 119' 7" and that was durring my freshmen year of high school. currently a jr. ganna start using this vid and see if it helps. hoping to break 140 this year
Since I have watched your training techniques I have improved my distance from 33.15m to 36.29m in less than 6 weeks! Thanks a lot. I am 54yrs old and now that my javelin is improving I am very competitive in my age group weight pentathlon. I won the NSW State title last weekend defeating 3 men I've never beaten before in a major competition when we've all been present. Now if I can improve my discus by as much I'll be even harder to catch!!
Yeh I agree, use that left arm to produce more power by drive it backwards as your right comes forward. Creates more of a reflex, think of your body like bow and arrow.
thanks for the video gonna start on the drills right away and really needed some good drills and dont have coach and just looking for ways to get better. first year throwing last year when i was 14 threw 43m with 600 gram javelin but moving up to 800 gram this year so really need to work hard and get better
HEY i think this video is great help to me in throwin my jav...i am throwing 46 somthing right now...and i never had a coach for it and didnt have any technique .....im going to try remember some of these things to help me throw atleast 59 high...which will be very good for me...cause i really need the help....thanks for the video...ill be lookin out for me....i do the dacathlon so i need as much point as possible
Interesting video. I threw 42 m when I was 15 with the old type 600 g jawelin, but probably with a lousy technique. I did not have any coaches around to teach me the basics. Now I'm in the mid 40ties and wonder about picking up some throwing again just for fun and training. Thanks to videos like these, I might even be able to beat my pb some day. A major problem is to avoid injuries, as the body gets stiffer with age. Thanks for uploading! Lykke til, Lars!
How much do one gain by using shoes with spikes? All I've tried was ordinary running shoes (joggesko). I still love to throw rocks or snowballs, so why not a javelin again? But I guess I should have had better shoes.
mange tak! That's about all my danish--although "Jag pratar Svenska!" I'm a high school coach just starting to coach the jav. What kind of balls are you using in this video? I assume the larger ones are just medicine balls (how heavy?). What about the smaller balls (tennis balls? raquet balls?) Thanks for the great videos! VERY helpful!
hey im 15 and i throw 35-40 most of the time but my technique is alot differnt to others i do not pull my arm all the way back i practicly just bend my elbow so the back of my hand touches my shoulder then throw it. how should i work on that?
35-40 ft or meters? If it is feet that's about 100-130 range. I throw about 105ft. What you should do it take your arm all the way back straight. Then when you go to throw, pull the empty hand back, making your body twist, and release the javelin straight armed over near your eye. Hope it helps.
just wondering why my javelin will nevr land point first. It always seems to "float" and land flat. In other words, its almost always a fault. Any advice would be great. Thanks...
Film your throw I bet with out even knowing your throwing it like a baseball it's a mistake most people make. Just remember arm extended and don't throw it like a baseball with your arm almost 90 degrees bent. Also make sure you come up over your head this will go further and stick.
your body is similar with thorkildsen as i can see and you seem like a flexibly and fast guy.i guess that it's a matter of time to pass the 80m.keep that great traaining and stay healthy!your vids help me a lot in my trainings although i have injuries in my shoulder and elbow.i am from greece and things here aren't the best for jav throwers(at least not the good ones).i hope in a few years to be able to train abroad.congrats on your 76 m pb.just saw it.
Also, is there a good way to increase distance. IN high school i thrower 49 meters and ended my college years at 54. I know i can throw 60. I recently threw after a 2 year lay off and threw 51. Any advice
if you are new and never thrown a javelin, you need to start in a club with a javelin coach who can teach you the right technique from the start. Are you already in a club, focus then on the javelin technique the first years. Do not get to strong to fast.
I'm a junior in highschool and i've thrown over 200, and i know that another main thing to throwing the jav is not over throwing 2 to 3 days before a meet
How'd ya'll throw in highschool? I'm a sophomore throwing mid 150s at the start of the season, hoping to get mid 160's by the end. I'm not relaly sure how that holds up, good enough to pursue jav thru college?
As a sophmore in high school i threw 155 my pr in high school was 184. Today as a senior in college i throw 230' So you can become great if you work hard and understand where you are and where you want to be and what it takes to get there.
You know it is very nice training zone god gym...I am from Croatia I throw javelin too but I am not doing that stuff my stadium is poor and in gym I can do bench press squat snatch and med shoots..wish that I am at your place..I am born 1990 my pb 800g is 65m..I started train one year ago and I could be better with stuff like these!throw far throw loud!!!
You dont have to have the best stuff to become a good javelinthrower. As long you have the basics - weights, javelins and medicinballs, your are doing well. To become a good thrower, you have to use your fantasy in the training.
Well, I throw 238feet (72 meters)and Gert (the other male jav ) throws 215 (65meters). You can throw that far too, if you just train hard throughout higschool:-)
what are you throwing at 0:55-1:20?
