Yes Steve Perry WAS awesome but he had left the group due to hip injury. We will always give respect to Steve Perry coz he had catapulted Journey to fame but Arnel Pineda has amazing vocals and he possesses Journey's legacy sound. Bravo, Arnel!
A friend told me that he saw Journey with Arnel 1 or 2 years ago, and he loved the concert. Seeing him here, what vocal ability and stage presence. Absolutely excellent.
@654magicman I'm not saying that Arnel doesn't have a voice, he does....but in my opinion Steve Perry's voice is just fantastic...It's just that Journey cannot replace Steve. I have been listening the Arnel again and again the past week and the songs are not just the same. It's nice to know you respect my opinion as I do yours. didn't even know there was a leadvox named SP b4, and thought that OA was a MC orig...i've never been interested on Journey songs either..i was so into ledzep's, Beatles', Aerosmith, Deep Purple and the likes....tried listening to sp's renditions in yt, sad to say that upon hearing those 30+ ago songs, i could definitely say that sp couldn't ever turn me into a fan 'coz i don't think he rocks.. i see SP as uncool and his versions were lame..imho!

Now, let me qualify. Perry is one of my favorite singers but to even suggest that Arnel is not every bit as good(just different) is just amatures talking. As a fan--of course the person who made the songs famous is, by far, the best choice--but to even be considered as being close puts Arnel at the top

Here's why--go listen to the other videos of Perry doing this same song Live. You will hear that perry's natural voice is much higher than this guys(more like a girls range). This make it effortless for perry to hit the words "in a year or more". What that ease does is actually hurting the width of the notes.

This man can sing...like it or not. It's damn hard to sing high notes like that in an "impersonation" style...I bet he just happens to have a similar voice.
Another example would be Robert Plant and David Coverdale, or Ronnie Dio and Robert Lowe.

Yes, he is no Steve, most comments say this. BUT give the kid a break, what huge shoes to fill. His voice (tone and affliction wise) sounds very good and very like Steves in his younger days. I think the best part is his energy and love for Journey's music, obviously he is a huge Steve Perry fan, and Im sure respects Steve's legend, as we do.
Arnel Pineda is a better singer than Steve Perry. I'm a professional singer. Perry has a slightly higher top end range, true, but so what? Pineda's range is already huge. He can sing an F#5. That is SICK. Pineda far outclasses vocalists such as Freddie Mercury( who is really a Baritone), Bono, etc. Compared to Perry, Pineda sings with better tone for a stronger voice overall. This performance in Chile is sub-standard compared to the other shows like LV. Pineda is today's BEST rock vocalist.

He may not be Steve, but he does damn good well on his own in the singing. I love the animation and energy that he has in his voice which is needed for a band like Journey. They did good choosing Arnel.
I saw these guys in "Music City USA" on August 7, and they were phenomenal!!! Arnel and the rest of the band are GREAT! Definitely the comeback of the decade! Go see the hottest band around!
Sounds great, differences with Arnel's voice sound like slightly narrower 'pipes' though with powerful lungs, and slightly more 'oscillating' emphasis, Steve's vocals are a slightly more 'succinct', but exquisitely so, the original, and excellent at that.
That Arnel is an energizer bunny! How can a little guy like him bounce around the stage like that? Just amazing - Arnel! Thanks for breathing renewed life and energy to the rest of Journey. Now you guys are making wonderful music. I hope this is the rebirth of stadium rock! Music today sucks and Journey's album makes me appreciate the finer artists today. They're definitely one of the best bands!

Arnold's great talent does not surprise me. I have traveled all over Asia and have seen and heard a lot of excellent Asian rock bands. Many of them have a passion for American rock and they willfully convey their message through the music. Thanks to the Journey guitar player for finding this gift of talent! I have a feeling that the Journey tour will be one of the biggest draws of the year.

The new Arnel/Journey sound is awe-inspiring especially with the fine-tuned Vina festival downloaded CD. (Somehow my son got it someplace) Listening to Rubicon & Wheel in the Sky, there's a neo-fusion reverberation of high-raspy Axl Rose & classic SP. It's pleasingly phenomenal!!!

Yes, he is no Steve, most comments say this. BUT give the kid a break, what huge shoes to fill. His voice (tone and affliction wise) sounds very good and very like Steves in his younger days. I think the best part is his energy and love for Journey's music, obviously he is a huge Steve Perry fan, and Im sure respects Steve's legend, as we do.

Best singer they ever had, anyone who disagrees doesn't know anything about singing, he is, period. Steve was good, but not THAT good.

Arnel Pineda is a better singer than Steve Perry. I'm a professional singer. Perry has a slightly higher top end range, true, but so what? Pineda's range is already huge. He can sing an F#5. That is SICK. Pineda far outclasses vocalists such as Freddie Mercury( who is really a Baritone), Bono, etc. Compared to Perry, Pineda sings with better tone for a stronger voice overall. This performance in Chile is sub-standard compared to the other shows like LV. Pineda is today's BEST rock vocalist.

oh, man. more than any, this journey song brings back a lot of memories. i've been waiting a long time for journey to make me feel giddy all over again. im more of a fan now than i've ever been cuz of arnel. he brings something special to this band.

He may not be Steve, but he does damn good well on his own in the singing. I love the animation and energy that he has in his voice which is needed for a band like Journey. They did good choosing Arnel.

I saw these guys in "Music City USA" on August 7, and they were phenomenal!!! Arnel and the rest of the band are GREAT! Definitely the comeback of the decade! Go see the hottest band around!

Sounds great, differences with Arnel's voice sound like slightly narrower 'pipes' though with powerful lungs, and slightly more 'oscillating' emphasis, Steve's vocals are a slightly more 'succinct', but exquisitely so, the original, and excellent at that.

That Arnel is an energizer bunny! How can a little guy like him bounce around the stage like that? Just amazing - Arnel! Thanks for breathing renewed life and energy to the rest of Journey. Now you guys are making wonderful music. I hope this is the rebirth of stadium rock! Music today sucks and Journey's album makes me appreciate the finer artists today. They're definitely one of the best bands!

Yeah! I totally agree. I've been a rocker since the 70's and I recently watched SP version, but I thought that was lame compared to this!!! The energy is awesome... I feel I'm gettin a breath of fresh air in my old rocker soul. Go Arnel, looks like he's really havin fun out there.

He had a very difficukt childhood. Eating out of trashcans. He lost both his parents. I cried when I saw his interview. I am a total Journey fan and now even bigger with Arnel on board. All my love and blessings go out to him. He deserves it.

I'm an avid fan of JOURNEY.Their concert in Chile is the Best among the best.I think this guy has really good talent.He's hardworking.The notes,pitch,volume,etc. are incredible.He's the real new SP or more.

Arnold's great talent does not surprise me. I have traveled all over Asia and have seen and heard a lot of excellent Asian rock bands. Many of them have a passion for American rock and they willfully convey their message through the music. Thanks to the Journey guitar player for finding this gift of talent! I have a feeling that the Journey tour will be one of the biggest draws of the year.

The new Arnel/Journey sound is awe-inspiring especially with the fine-tuned Vina festival downloaded CD. (Somehow my son got it someplace) Listening to Rubicon & Wheel in the Sky, there's a neo-fusion reverberation of high-raspy Axl Rose & classic SP. It's pleasingly phenomenal!!!
