  • in our system we love MMA, xy training is a great compliment, dont be fooled by forms, thats just when training alone to devlope body method. Master Li here was first coach of Beijing Sanda/sanshou, he won titles in that. I am a disciple of his and I also do MMA, GJJ etc etc. Chinese arts are rare to have a true teacher who understands fighting, Master Li is one of them. Alot of what gong fu teachers do does not work because they dont oressure test it , its the teachers or practicioners fault

  • @shifudan that comment was 2 years ago. haha. My xingyiquan has improved alot since then. And I agree, xingyi is a very complete system. I do my best to train it realistically also. Nice video, and respect to Master Li

  • My old master has been gone almost two decades now, but if I remember correctly, he used to say that the "scooping" was to neutralize/trap an attack; the "hopping" was to keep up with the opponent in case he tried to get free, and the hand movements, coupled with the dropping of the weight, was to inflict considerable discomfort (as in 'dislocate') an elbow.

  • What is the name for this style of music? I want to know. Because I like it.

  • chinese folk music

  • im having trouble figuring out the application for this form, please help

  • My understanding is the low kicks are knee traps followed by the hands and fingers ripping to the eyes or other soft parts. I have not seen the high kicks before but I am guessing the app would be similar. I have only studied a small amount of Xing Yi so any one else with more experience please correct me if I am wrong.

  • Sometimes a position can translate to many applications. When he goes into a cross stance the front leg that steps forward could be a lower leg smash or a trapping of opponents front foot while he presses and pulls the attackers arm with both his hands. Pulling and locking his wrist and elbow and knocking off his balance. Then when the opponent tries to pull back you explode up and forward with a front kick and a rear drilling punch to the neck or pressure points in the face.

  • The cross step could even be climbing up the opponents knee or even hitting the waist or ribs. Or even a block like Evlijoe2000 said. Simultaneously using hands feet and waist, pretty much the whole body, not just separate limbs.

  • @randyds5 apps vary, but main thing here is developing leg power and using whole body etc. This kick rt to the stomache if someone pushes you or punches from close range, works great, Master Li has kicked me in the chin with this, it isnt nice, but in street would be used lower. XY is most complete system i have studied, missing ground component, but has weapons, trapping, clinch, etc etc.

  • That's narrowing it down ALOT because there are tons of factors...but you aren't wrong XD

  • btw nice form, I really like these devoted guys. They deserve the respect they have.

  • Since this video comment page has not yet come to its inevitable attack of MMA vs. Internal martial arts debates, I would like to say a few words to those who would like to start one.

*ahem* 1. nobody agrees with you, so stop trying to change their minds. 2. just to counter the argument I know is coming: If it wasn't effective in fighting, it wouldn't have lasted so many centuries.

    Cheers! H2Zman

  • Love that post. And definnitely agree!
