Great sequence but the book that inspired it (African Genesis) has long been discredited. I'm not sure it's even germane to think of "first human" anymore. There appears to have been an enormous amount of variation, as in other species, over a vast time period, not a single species that "defined" humanity, let alone with a bone-club! Having said that, this is my 2nd fave SF movie (Solaris, 1972, is my #1).
No, not "destructive animals"- We are certainly animals, but that phrase implies blind, pointless violence. We are innately aggressive because it was necessary to maintain control of the resources we needed to survive, which was very beneficial for the survival of the members of our species until recent centuries.
If we had a mass power outage to last over a year, many people would die because they wouldn't know what to do. Even with all the technology, many people are still pretty damn stupid... and lazy.
@retrofraction Upon looking at my artwork and astronomy videos on my channel I think youll agree that I have the qualifications to make a tiny little joke on a youtube video that features a tiny sliver of a movie.
Wow. So basically all of our technology came from learning how to use materials around us as tools. Unfortunately, as of 2012, apes in the wild still use sticks and stones to break things.
Do people not understand what the word "spam" means, or are you all just dicks? People have the right to be stupid and wrong, but unless they've actually been spamming, don't flag their comments, just downvote.
Learning to kill was one of 'proto-man's most important steps along the ruthless Darwinian pathway. It's not pretty, cute, uplifting or euphoria-inducing, unless you actually enjoy killing. It is just one of the harsh laws of nature. The tapir or neo-pig collapsing in this part of the movie used to seem bizarre to me (I was 10 years old when I saw the film first). The two '2001's, the film and the real year, only echo what man harbors within.......
what a smart monkey and to think that she then selectively gave birth to even smarter little monkeys with less hair and and a more upright stance- unbelievable
I love the build up in this scene, the way how the ape goes from an idea and puts it into practice making way for the continous evolution of man (with all its pros and drawbacks).
But the thing that really gets me in this scene, and Kubrick's overall genious, is the level of detail, like the fact that there is actually saliva coming from the apes mouth!
@nanosalluzzi yeah ur right Jame's Cameron is a horrible director he's poisoning children's mind's with his crap im only 12 but i see right through him he is stupid nowadays people are actually comparing Avatar to this it was cool in 3d but the whole movie sucked people are just to stupid to understand this film thumbs up if im correct
@CroatianUnion James Cameron has done some pretty epic films, Avatar, if you had listened to why he made it, was simply to show off the graphics capability. Furthermore, this film is not hugely difficult to understand, its just not the best movie ever made. Moresoever, if Avatar 'sucked', remind me, which film made more money?
"this is fucked" and 300 views is all this clip can get? This scene is amazing and has defined not only a moment in the evolution of man but also an instance in the evolution of cinema. Great Scene...Kubrick is a F***ing artist.
@hopdevil007 and that behaviour only as started because he saw his friend being killed by a leopard and he couldnt do anything to help him lol great movie indeed
@hopdevil007 yea but evolution of men didn't exatcly happened how is portrayed in this scene. Just like Da Vinci's last supper was not culurally correct (they didn't use tables or chairs on the location where Jesus supposedly existed : D) .
