  • Is this the song that is supposed to be in the hunger games ????

  • @aashni5681 no

  • I used to go to these shows with my folks. The building was within walking distance of my home just a couple of blocks from my church. Wow.

  • @maureenmo1 pissant

  • Wonderful vocals in perfect pitch. It´s hard to believe they did it live

    at TV. Super !

  • That was a good movie! I was just a kid, but I sang that song until I drove my sister crazy! My dad was a very good singer, and sang it with me!

  • oh memories love

  • Better than "money money money bitches bitches bitches".

  • @Tearorwrist Not enough "motherfuckers" in your song bro. Otherwise, it's excellent. Get some black guy to sing and we've got a platinum album and millions of dollars in our pockets!

  • What I love about the two most recent Fallout games is that they feature good, wholesome music, not some crap you'd find today. Who wants to hear a song about a guy getting a blowjob?

  • @EagleVendetta yea i hear ya bro and i think rap is just gonna be a completely dead genre unlike 50s - 60s

  • @modernwarfare134 Well, to be fair, some rap is good. Not a lot though.

  • It was a great movie. Gary Cooper, George C Scott, Mai Zetterling, Karl Malden,

  • i went to tenerife for a hol years ago and this was one of about 10 songs the local radio station had.

We walked in the hotel room and theres this big grill thing and a switch we thought was air conditioning so it was turned full on though nothing seemed to happen.

Came back and heard music blasting away. Ignorant sods lol

It was me with the air conditioning

  • ok an old western about a tree called "the hanging tree" forced me to click it. i was relieved to find it wasnot what i expected.

  • LOVE this song!

  • What a voice !!!!!!!! Pure silk country crooner

  • anyone know the names of the other members other than those listed below? tks

  • @cliffworks4321 ... those are the Glaser Brothers singing the background harmony... Tompall, Chuck and Jim.... Jim is still performing and he is 73,,,, you can youtube Jim Glaser.

  • @southernsong, They were the back ups on the original "El Paso".

  • I was searching for the Hunger Games son, but this works too...

  • Absolute magic! The voice of voices, a light like this comes to earth so rarely, but as long as we have his recordings to listen to, he will continue to shine. Many thanks for a great post.

  • thanks to my father thta i dont know where he's got that vynil from!!!! i grew listening to Martys Greatest Hits and wondering who he was... now after nearly 3o years see him singing... (i was born in Venezuela so thats why is so strange for my father to have that kinda music.!!!) anyways... i love also the ballad...."she was only seventeen, and he was one year more... he loved him with all her heart and... so so on and on...) thanks for posting!!!

  • marty's voice is a gift

  • super!

  • One of the big hit song from Great Marty Robbins in my country.

However the thing that this movie I could not be seen is extremely sorry.

I'm very enjoyed this live version too much.

    Thank you for nice posting.

  • There were three greats. Johnny Cash, Don Gibson and Marty Robbins. All gone.

  • who are the backup singers?

  • @jkoncz - The backup singers are the Glaser Brothers out of Nebraska.

That's Tompall Glaser (who had a good solo career) on the left. The big guy

playing guitar seen over Marty's shoulder was a former Tennessee State

Trooper and Marty loved forcing him to crack a rare smile.

  • @GentJack75 Thanks Gent for the heads up , I always wondered who those two guys singing with Marty were and he loved to break up the big guy didnt he?

  • Forget whether this is a song made from a movie, or if the movie was based on the film, maybe a short story too, maybe.

  • I really like his singing.

  • I have enjoyed the film each time I have seen it again: Gary Cooper, Karl Malden and that pretty vulnerable girl. Impossible not to fall in love with her

  • Great voice. It was pure, clear and sounded as good live as on a studio recording. Sadly, a talent lost to most modern "artists".

  • @rgolaf

Well said! One of the all time best in country music. A great talent lost so soon.

  • marty has it totally right

  • Great song, great singer and a great group singing back-up; Tompall and the Glazier Brothers.

  • love this song and the movie

  • "Marty Robbins"

    Just so Amazing, wonderful voice.

  • great song, and a great memory!

  • The Late, Great Marty Robbins! It don't get any better. Thanks for the posting lucian33ABC

  • Iam only a kid but this is my favorite song

  • I'm no longer a kid, but 51 years ago when I was this was my favorite song, too

  • @TheCarolineAngel yeah, you're ONLY a KID and DONT FORGET IT

  • Great song, thanks for the video

  • Great memories. Marty may God Bless your soul. RIP

  • Today, Dec 8, 2009, marks the anniversary of Marty's death on Dec 8th, 1982. What a great loss. RIP. Gone but not forgotten.

  • that's lennon's too! I didn't know that

  • @traceykhouston I loved his singing was my all time favorite.Do you know what was the cause of his passing i thought it was heart related but i am not sure.I sure wish i could have met him in person and thanked him for the great entertainment. His voice was a God given talent and i hope he is in Heaven.God Bless

  • @frac889 Yes, Marty had a quadruple bypass surgery, but passed away shortly after while still in the hospital. I still remember to this day hearing about it on the radio that he had gone in for the surgery and then of his passing right after. I came "this close" to getting to see him perform live in October 1982 in Edmonton, Alberta (with Wilf Carter), right after his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, but then other circumstances prevented it & there was no "next time" to see him

  • @traceykhouston I was writing a song Marty said he would consider... I talked to him the day before he went into the hospital... I called that day and talked to his manager.. she told me Marty passed away that morning. Such a great voice and friend.

  • @traceykhouston

There will never be another Marty! Always forever the best of country.

  • @traceykhouston dam....tell me that it was at least of old age

  • @gtakid13 No, Marty was only 57 when he passed away (born Sept 26, 1925). He died due to complications from a triple bypass. He had a heart attack, went into the hospital, they did a triple bypass, and came through that, but a day or two later he passed away, on Dec 8, 1982. I'll never forget it. :-(

  • @traceykhouston And now a lot more people are going to remember him thanks to New Vegas.

  • what year was this in?

  • HEY Folks, ENJOY whatever version you favour, No need to get NASTY about it.

It's MUSIC for Gods sake!! Get a life !!

  • @learningf of all musically oriented comments ive heard this is the best!

  • love this song marty. he can sing the best ever

  • i love this song. and i know what he means when he sed "to rilly live you must almoset die"

  • This song was released 12 Jan 1959. The original arrangement and backup was with Ray Conniff. This was one of the last sessions where Conniff worked with another artist, after mid-1959, he worked exclusively on his own albums.

  • Marty sang the original version.

  • Yes, Marty sang the version behind the titles on the movie though it's abbreviated...you can hear where they spliced it.

  • maureenmo1 you have no taste in good music, marty is the best. i piss on frankie laine's version!!!! marty's voice is god given

  • OMG, my ears! I just heard Frankie's version! Pathetic! I'll piss with you!

  • hahaha! That was even better than my comment! cheers!

  • Looks like Marty is cracking up at those backup singers at the start. :)

This is my fav Marty Robbins song, thanks for the upload.

  • what a singer...superp

  • Real music! Every body needs this in their library....if you're a real American! Are you? I am!

  • No sir I'am not an American but that's

where my love of music lies, country music

    that is,when I was 6 years old I always

sang along with all the great country stars

used to hear on the radio, but to day what they call country is just a lot of garbage,

I never watch today's country music on TV

or buy the CD's I just sing and listen to all the old stuff I have which is about 600 karaoke songs which I love to sing, such as Hank Williams.Johnny cash, waylon Jennings.

  • That's spot on. We even sing em too!

  • saw movie and song was perfect to

the story.marty did song for the movie.

  • George c Scott's first movie

  • Love this

  • One didn't have to be a country western fan to hear Marty Robbins in the 1960's. He had cross over hits. I didn't listen to country music, and I was--am--a Marty Robbins' fan.

  • Laine's version is way better.

    The Dragon

  • I guess that's why Warner Bros used Marty's version in the movie.

  • That's amazing for a live performance, they all had some great talent, very professional! Thanks, I never heard much of Marty Robbins (I was not raised on Country music other then some Hank Williams), just a little and the more I hear, the more impressed I am! Now I have to see the movie! LOL.

  • One of my very favorite Western Songs and great vocalist. Best Gary Cooper movie as well. You need to see this movie and hear it sung at the end.

  • COOL!

  • what a voice this man had. he could sing anything.

  • Beautiful song for a masterpiece movie. Are they still able to day to make such films with such songs?

  • You in USA took in our people, but you gave back music for peoples."Red River Valley"is a memento to me .

  • little did the glaser bros know when they were doing the back up for marty, that they would soon be in the spotlight themselves.

  • Perfect music for a great western movie !

  • Remember my mom taking us to the drive-in movie when it first came out and I've loved this song ever since.

  • Great song by a great singer, from a great movie starring Gary Cooper... and George C.

  • Great song by a great singer, from a great movie starring Gary Cooper.

Thanks for posting, didn't know there was a video of it.

    Warmly,

    WIW.
