I was looking for a song for my Sarah's b'day this friday. Thanks for the upload!! Perfect..she loved uncle johns band ...we played it at her funeral but I can't remember much else. The shock I guess. We were at a gather when we got the 911 in the woods that nite. 13 years ago. Couldn't do much rainbow after that every thing was so different. Hard to explain. I like this one instead of Uncle John.

Took my 11 year old son to the mann to see further tonight.. Band was fairly tight and had us rockin' for a while, BUT.. I was disappointed with the set list.. Might as well have been singing Cumbaya.. all fluff..no heart.. I was trying to explain that to my son.. came to youtube to find him an example of a GD song with heart.. Probably start with this one.. Have china doll, broken down palace, looks like rain, birdsong, comes a time, he's gone on the list.. any other suggestions??? Thanks..
@murphy4trees I think my suggestion would be to not try and control it so much. I saw a lot of disappointing Dead shows in the early 90's - really they just made the ones "...with heart...", as you aptly put it, that much more special.
I remember making some Dead mixes for some friends who were interested, and then giving them some bootlegs, and they were entranced with the stuff from the shows I would never have thought to put on a mix. The music is "organic," so should our experience be.
@nlandess I guess.. still its Ok to be disappointed.. I may not have liked the set list of that last show.. still grateful to have been touched by this music.. I grew up on the dead and it is part of me now and always..
@coreyagraph . Pete Townsend was the most egregious for that when attacking Eric Clapton by claiming he'd done it 1st on the Secret Policeman's Ball (late 70s i think). The Dead, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young (both with and without CSN) beat him by YEARS
@ahclem13 That version of Won't Get Fooled Again is friggin awesome, though. And the experience is a little different - Townsend took a song that was a full on rock anthem and turned it into something entrancing and acoustic - the Dead, and Neil, and Dylan were usually working with material that, even if it was not identified as acoustic, it wasn't much of a stretch to play it in that environment - as opposed to, for example, what Clapton did to re-work Layla.
Also a major force (he would have said THE significant force) in the development of the infamous "Wall of Sound" PA system and a pioneer in the development of archival recording of live shows.
He died in a car crash a couple weeks ago; hence the salutation.
One day. And I don't mean strength either...I'd rather be weak than to do any of that again for strength alone. This is a hellish planet we're all walking on. Perhaps music...this sort of music...will help you find the burst of deep gutteral aching that wants to leap that wall of anger. I am here. I know you are a human behind this screen, and I get it. You are not alone.
The Ehce...Having a piece we fundamentally know fits so perfectly with us then nothing, gone....yes. I want to encourage you to grieve for as long as you need...be angry as long as you need. I have suffered some losses that defy conventional human instinct. You cannot see it now, yet, I know eventually something remarkable comes from these things.
Try and love someone for 20 years and have the demon cancer take them from you and see what songs you listen to on a regular basis. Yes I am angry...much more than sad. Missing someone is the worst feeling in the world, and I'd rather be kicked in the damn face
listened to this last night, and the thought came to me (somewhat belatedly) that it took mtv 10 more years to come up with their 'unplugged' idea.
of course, some of my favorite jerry and the dead is the black mountain boys and mother mccree jug champions recordings (very small sample available but highly enjoyable).
grateful dead epitomize american music, they run the whole gamut from tradition to what is yet to be.
There was one day when I went to my first Dead Awakening, it was beautiful... Heaven is on Mother Earth if you just give it a chance, I came to realize the human soul eveyone posses and how universal it is... Jerry's voice cut through the air so clean, he was there for me as my life's demons were exposed... And he and everyone accepted me like they were there before... They all truely understood your soul and how important it is to care... That day my life changed...
Back in 95 to 96 I was going through alot of things. I listened to this song everyday. So..." For Me" it brings back memories. Thanks for at least uploading the whole song.
@LittlewillieJr but with no Phil there would be no Jerry... U cant have one with out the others . Though Jerry was great is was the ppl around him that helped mold him into the iconic figure that he is
For those with good bass on your speakers/headphones, dig Phil's line around 6:35 to 6:50 That irreplacable sound...He always held back that view to the bottom of the well until the perfect moments.
I miss Jerry
