It was boring like someone about to fall asleep people get so caught up in the academia of classical music that they forget it also has to honor Mozart who was filled with a heart praising creation this piece should be filled with ecstasy
This was beautifully sung. Tone quality--just gorgeous. Technical perfection on this piece belongs to Cecilia Bartoli (not a soprano, however). Bartoli also invests an enthusiasm that makes us feel that, by George, she means HALLELUJAH!
lol though I do not doubt the identity of the singer, there are many points where it doesn't actually sound like Kiri at all, especially the lightness and the texture XD
are you saying that you know more about vocal technique than one of the most well-loved operatic sopranos in the world? She may not be perfect technically here, but I reckon it's an impressive feat for someone so young. And no one can doubt that she had excellent technical and musical control later on, and still does today.
I'm just saying that my whole approach to music is different. I have the unique combination of a natural talent and I've never taken lessons. So my singing transcends technique in a way. I think the vocal work on my videos will bear this out.
The comments on your page and your videos really don't do you any service. I actually listened to some of them and wished I didn't. Technique and musicality go hand in hand, you can't just 'transcend technique'. I don't think you can use your definition/approach of music to comment on this video. Your styles are totally different, and Kiri actually sings.
This performance is above any other I heard (including KTK's others). In the excellent ones coming close are Sylvia McNair, and probably the *young* Arleen Auger. Unfortunately the AA currently on YouTube was ~50 and already ill from the brain cancer that would take her life a few years later. While still excellent, it is ANOTHER singer than the wonderful Arleen Auger once heard (and watched!) in "Martern aller Arten" (Entführung aus dem Serail) for instance.
This is very well done, no arguments at all... Eita Gruberova also does a splendid job of singing this wonderful piece for soprano... check hers out! :)
It is, indeed, a great job (Edita's) but... Well, I must confess there are only two people able to touch me, to reach my deeeper emotions, when singing this piece: Te Kanawa and a wonderful portuguese soprano called Ana Paula Russo (she's... impressive! By the way, have a look on her... maybe... "Canela, cravo...", from P.Glass' White Raven).
I agree that Edita Gruberova, while better known (and loved) in Strauss Fledermaus "Mein Herr Marquis" or in Offenbach Hoffmann "Doll Song", is quite good too in Exsultate "Alleluia", even not far behind the wonderful ones cited above.

This doesn't sound like Kiri, it sounds to light, and her voice usually has a lot of depth.

This is a very, very young Kiri!! Pay attention to her coloratura, to the velvety tone... Who could she be but Kiri?

That's a 27-year-old Kiri I think :) She was a lighter soprano at that time (as in, still lyric soprano, but more light-lyric).
My favourite recordings of hers come from her late 20s to early 40s period. It's so refreshing to hear.

No joy, and annoying intonation on easy notes (too high septimes). Two stars.

I agree with ehasl. I don't sing in this style but through many years of performing professionally, I can tell that something is not right here.
Check out my videos (at my youtube page) for some proper vocal technique.
