Rather refreshing at the beginning to see Ken Wolstenholme give his intro without a load of morons gurning in the background .. wouldn't happen now would it. It seems people had more dignity back then.
I saw Charlton Law and Best week in week out.Charlton was a truly great player-sports writer brian Glanville never kicked a ball in his life),and as he got older dictated play from a more midfield role.Of course he was a great forward as well, playing in every forward position for united, and a great team player.A true great.
Thanks, I love this stuff too which is why I collect the matches, obviously this is only 10 minutes but most of these are actually about 50 minutes in length.
Look at what a tenacious little tackler Best is, but who is most interesting is Bobby Charlton. The great sports writer Brian Glanville has always challenged the whole "Charlton as God", "Bobby as Di Stefano" myth, and tried to show him for what he was, a marvellous inside forward who moved like a swallow, with great grace and shooting skills, but not the "midfield general" playmaker type like Gerson or Haynes as has so often been portrayed. From these videos, I think he was right.
"There's the NEW stand being built for the WC here @ Old Trafford." LOL! Best wasn't afraid to get stuck in @ all; that's really become a forgotten part of his game as the yrs. have rolled on. I've already talked about the whole Sir Bobby compared to Haynes issue.
This stuff is priceless. Thank you so much. I always wanted to know just what type of personal styles Charlton, Law and Greaves really had, away from the stereotypical images in print. Thank you so much.
