Evanescence is a gothic rock/metal band. Also if you new anything then you would know that metal is and adapted version of rock music in its self, it is a genre of rock music! Lets make some things clear here, Pop is Pop, metal is metal, rock is rock, and popular music is popular music. Anything not classical, well guess what, classical music is popular too :), i have no doubts you have great knowledge of music, probably played alot of instruments also in your life.
