kick-ass. start to finish. One of my favorite bands, ever. None of my friends or family has ever agreed with me. Nice to see others appreciating Confessor.
I have been online for SEVERAL years. I have NEVER....EVER commented on a youtube video but I had to voice my opinion on this one. I bought this when I was a sophomore in high school. It still blows my mind til this day. I cannot wait to see them at Maryland Death Fest next year. Steve Shelton is a living god.
Look out for the band Far And Away!!! 3 members of confessor, really good stuff. Google it and you will find a link to their demo on blabbermouth. Classic track, pity they split.
what kind of singer do you dickheads propose they have? its a part of the sound they wanted to make. its not like their music is just any normal thing either. what should they have some stupid ass growler so they can get pigeon holed into a category. fuck you.
i had this album years ago, i actually thought it was a good album back then, obviously it was the drummer i was listening to because the singer has no balls
SHEEEET!! Now there's a trip down memory lane, hahaha!! ;-DD I was listening to this beauty when I was 15 at school - back in '91. Took me almost a year to master this bitch on the drums. The hardest ever percussion rhythm that I've ever encountered. It's completely all over the place!! ;-D
@Sekkingstad It's a bit irritating because the vocals don't flow with the music at all, but painful? No. Early Pitchshifter was painful and that's what made them so good; it was gritty, angry, and synthetic music that garted on one's eardrums.
@moparmonster1965 Whatever. I'm just sorry you don't get the same experience as me from listening to these guys. However, I've been listening to metal and music in general long enough to tell you that these guys are smart, and not a bad band.
@Sekkingstad Eh, they were trying to be different and came of a little contrived with this album. I cut my teeth on thrash and was into the scene when death metal was fresh and new. Nowadays, metal is old and stale with nothing left to be said.
@camrunker The vocals are great... independently.. but he is in a world and key of his own.
Me and my drummer constantly talk about it. The harmonies and everything.. harmonizing 3rds over wrong voicings and everything. Great voice, but clearly has no idea what the band is doing lol.
@aarongtr180 On that note, I would honestly love to see a beast like him on a gig like "Divinity's End" (Helstar vocalist). A band like that would fit him more. I love some confessor, but i couldn't help but think how good this guy would have been with a more "tonally" appropriate band.
@Shadowofcreation I dunno, man; I think Jeffreys is in his element here. But I can see why you would think he'd do better somewhere else, usually this vocal style doesn't fit this style of metal instrumentation very well.
These lyrics, are amazing, and I love the drums. But......his voice, just killed this for me. I'm only 16, and I don't think I'm ever going to learn to appreciate the vocals.
@Sekkingstad I think I'll disagree. I LOVE his voice on this album but after listening to Unraveled twice, then finding out they DIDN'T change vocalists between albums and getting my mind blown, I still couldn't take his vocals on Unraveled. They're just so... idk they're like... it's hard to describe how I feel about them. They're sung in this sort of drone sound that I just really dislike. It's like he lots a lot of his vocal range in that 13 (?) years between albums.
But he has not lost his vocal range. On the live in Norway DVD from around 2005, he sings the old songs perfectly. I guess they just wanted to try something new.
@HannahBooFace Actually, I feel his voice is a breath of fresh air, since most bands with this sound that I've heard of (Metallica, Anthrax, etc) all have that "Marlboro voice" that sounds like Nickelback's singer, or they do that really low growl voice. I kinda like this one.
@tjrieves Well, I wouldn't go as far as fresh air personally (: However, I do admire him for singing in his own voice and style, and getting their message across despite what everyone else's image and "sound" is, if that makes any sense.
The lyrics really tells you that the singer don't care if he's different.
Let me tell you.. Confessor is a smart band in any way, and that's why it is recognized as a underground band.
They didn't care about selling the most records, and they play straight from the heart. No band in the world sounds as sick and twisted as Confessor, but that's the sound they wanted to have. =)
Yea, it is interesting. Like an acquired taste. I really love the beginning though, good drums. The more I listen, the more I feel myself nodding my head in approval.
hearing them first back then was a great inspiration for me as drummer, cause the drum style on condemned is pretty unique (besides loving or hating the vocals...)
The drummer shreds, and this is quite the interesting take on doom metal. However, the vocals annoy me. This is coming from someone who likes stuff like Toxik, Watchtower, and Realm, where high vocals are all around. Something about this guy's style just bothers me.
This is uniqe because of the vocals, thought the don't mach the music verywell.Low grunts and guttural growls woud make this a plain death metal rehelasewhat I was thinking of when first saw the artwork.

@camrunker They were probably thinking of going in a new direction.
They are SUPPOSED to be somewhat painful to listen to. Goes with their lyrics.
Instead of completely being a money-machine like other bands, they did whatever they wanted, and put their message before their greed.

moparmonster1965 7 months ago
@moparmonster1965 They never planned to make the music flow.
The high vocals are a brilliant contrast to the low and twisted guitars.
They tried to make music that would make you feel kinda ill, but at the same time bang your head to the heavy riffs.
Perhaps the smartest band in the world musically.

@HannahBooFace They can be hard to swallow at first.
As a fan of progressive singers, this band was an immediate success in my book.
Without their singer, Confessor would just be another technical band.
If you don't like this though, I would recommend their newest album "Unraveled".
They sounds very much like Solitude Aeternus on that, and it's way easier on the ears.
