the handel's original music score actually starts at 0:32,".the beautiful and necessary introduction gives us the bass line (the real theme), repeated whit elegant sober beautiful and "not classic" chord changes.
This piece seems more like a theme and variations on that central chord progression than a suite in itself. A brilliant example of Handel's melodic ability, though.
Yes. This is only the final movement of the suite, and it is in a variations style, which is the case with the form of Passacaille/Chaconne in general. It is not the whole suite.
Beautiful playing! Believe me, I have heard so many versions of this particular piece and this one is the best rendition that reminds how complicated Baroque music could be very beautiful!
it is quite unusuall performance, for several reasons:
1. this piece was written by Handel in G minor as the title said, but it is plays in this specific performance in F minor .
2. the overture ( if i may call it overture)
and for the previous comments,
Hnadel's work is sophisticated and requirs a previous knowledge in music, so you can expect that most of his work woun't be known by most of the general public.
No, it is played in G-minor, but the pitch is 392 Hz. So this makes "F-minor" if you compare with the "modern" 440 Hz pitch. But the distance between the single notes remains G-minor.
i cant believe I used to think of Handel as the lesser composer. Never realized how emotional his pieces were... It definitely has more "relistenable" value compared to other composers (my opinion anyway).
@Ardie83 Some call them equal in that they are different. I fall slightly on the Handel side. To little of Handel`s work is know by the general public. Handel wrote and estimated 304 hr. of music. Bach around 275
@shnimmuc nice to see someone with an interesting perspective. Im no expert at this matter, but personally, Chopin and Handel comes first on my list before any other composer (and not simply because Chopin is widely regarded as the best pianist in the world). Although i like Bach as well...
@googlekopfkind no your not crazy , the beginning with the chords do sound more modern but i really like it , the beginning is so easy but its really powerfull !!
@googlekopfkind The intro's different mainly due to the style. As far as the instrument, you can't get more purebred classical. The harpsichord is almost strictly classical. And this is one of the finest examples of a Passacaille around.
The resplendent harpsichord is among the moaiest, most beautiful sounding instruments ever created, and this is a perfect example of why. Thank you so much for posting this.
Listen to this, and listen to Village Green by The Kinks :3

The jazzy "Autumn Leaves" consists of the same chord progression; so this suite is the parent of this famous jazz-standard. Listen to Keith Jarrett!
