@Eltroim... yes, I got it... sigh. I was trying to continue the joke with a reference to the continuing insurgency problems after the invasion. But I guess it was just a BADGAG...
!! such a sick riff! so i was obliged to visit your myspace to hear your song "hammer." ...man. you underused the riff! gah! i wish we could jam my friend. i imagine so much more for itt! you're still the man -- sick guitar :]
Thank you. Yep, it is DADGAD. I think people must regularly discover it for themselves when they're planning to tune a guitar to open D and they notice that it sounds good if you leave the 3rd string alone, which is a very economical idea for a 12-string player because that top G is the one that always breaks when you tune it back up. That's how I first found it anyway.
Yeah, DADGAD is a great tuning.... used a bit by one of favourites Chris Whitley. He also used DADADE quite a bit. Have you ever tried that one ? Wouldn't recommend it for the 12-string since it means tuing up the G.
That's a very good observation. As it's an open tuning, I'm letting the bottom notes ring out continuously like a "drone", like in music made with pipes or the hurdy gurdy.
It's called 'Hammer', if you go to the primroseleague homepage there's a link to where you can stream it for free or buy the download for the bargain price of 79p.
Ahh! Just noticed that over the weekend you put out the full track (Hammer) to this riff on the podcast, GREAT stuff! I like the accompanying guitar with the riff. I've given it a few spins and I think it's maybe the best you've done yet. I REALLY like the third guitar that pops in and out at :55 and 2:01, awesome.
Very kind comments, if only I'd earned them. I was planning to spend today turning it into a finished song but I just sat around on my arse instead! Maybe tomorrow evening I'll get something done.
It's one of the guitar patches on the Roland built-in effects, which I tweak by switching off the delay and turning down the chorus. I think it basically has extremely heavy compression, but there's still some slight (very slow) chorus in there.
this sounds like your version of the stone roses song tears. Very clever

Are Ricks good guitars for practicing on? Like working on finger techniques and riffs? Does the varnish cause a problem?
sleestack 4 years ago
The point is you made it sound good, without dipping into the stock celtic music grab-bag.
