Knew Terry back in the day, Long before the Hollies and even the Swingin' Blue Jeans. I knew him when he played in the Escorts back in Liverpool. Ahhhhhh! great days (smile)
This song is deeply beautiful and haunting with its big blue Diamel and cheap white plastic shoes that don't walk out and don't let in. It's in your eyes.

i think around this time he had to make an ad hoc lp like Blood and Chocolate as sort of a backup piece for those who might have felt alienated by his full on country tinged record King of America. He didn't go for any major production value or deep songwriting on this one. A playing it safe lp at best. Even the best songwriter/performers have to capitulate for the greater good when their star flatlines for a period of time due to changing vogue in contemporary music styles.
you think "blood and chocolate" is playing it safe? and there's no "deep songwriting"? what in the world are you talking about? have you actually listened to the record?
"battered old bird", "crimes of paris", and "i want you" certainly stand out. at any rate, that's the dumbest thing i've read all day.

Well, go out and buy yourself a copy of his album North then. That should help you appreciate his pop side.

Yeah, but did Blood & Chocolate not have Hope You're Happy now on it? That is possibly one of his best.

@jaredjt Absolutely agree. Perhaps his angriest record.
It takes a 30 year-old divorcee to get that sometimes................like "Blood on the Tracks".
