I made a 3 minute podcast as part of my radio work. The title is Should Greyhound Racing be banned? I argue why it shouldn't be banned! Have a listen - as I am willing to hear both sides of the argument. Check out my channel and click on the link to my webpage to check it out!
Obviously my nephew knows what sometimes happens to animals at the vets so he was left hoping it would get better. I've seen several dogs fall in races and it's common but since hearing and seeing that one dog in pain, and we watched it being carried right past us, i don't support dog racing anymore. Each to their own i suppose but that was one night i won't forget.
I've been to the dogs 3 times now and the last one i attended was my last. It was the 4th race and i went outside with my nephew to get some fresh air and show him what it was like to stand at the railings so the dogs could shoot past him. There was a dog who fell & broke it's back legs in the race and the scream knocked me sick. It wouldn't stop screaming and it tried to walk off the track. We later got told it got put down but i told my nephew it went to the vets and they dealt with it...
lets wrap everyone (dogs included) in cotton wool and lets stay inside our cocoons and we will never see any accidents........ever ........life will be soooooooooooo safe for everyone we will all die of old age and never suffer any trauma ...any pain....soooooo safe and sound !
Just so you know your acting like this isnt bad thing. Greyhounds are often abused when they dont win They are often cage their whole lifes. And greyhound racing is extremly dangrouse. But cold hearted people like you take them as toys for entertainment. But when you die and then God will punish you then.
@lordofpembroke If there will be a world war 3, I hope you will be obliged to go to war, and face hunger, and shitty living conditions, and near death experiences. I want to see you saying the bullshit you just said.
This is one out of thousands of races where this can happen. thanks to you pussies all worried about a few dogs, many tracks have been closed and jobs lost...good job asswipes!
This is one out of thousands of races where this can happen....thanks to you pussies all worried about a few dogs, many tracks have been closed and jobs lost...good job asswipes!
@bigtimcny I give a shit about your job. Working at the Gestapo means that you had a job too.
You are not even entitled to use whe word "pussy". Holding a dog prisoner for your shitty bets, is what makes a you a pussy, a coward. And it's not just this. These dogs are killed or abandoned after they have been dealt with. If you want money over racing, raise your fucking fat ass and starting yourself, you obese american piece of shit.
It isn't "fun" for these dogs to get hurt, and then be put down. They're euthanized when they can't run, or otherwise picked up by a rescue group if they're lucky. The cages are small and stacked; do you think they run around in a nice happy home after a run? They're lucky if they get out twice a day to urinate. I've seen how they live there, I've seen how some handlers treat them like garbage; they have bypassed some abuse laws by passing for "property" as opposed to an animal, a dog.
My father used to work at the track like this he would care fir the digs and he says the dogs were never treated unfairly for losing and everyday dogs from the track that were to old, were adopted out. Now that this is illegal what do you think is going to happen to al the dogs that could not get a home
The race ins't cruel itself, just think, if you are running at this speed and you put even a part of your toe in the wrong place or catch your heel, you are gonna go down hard and fast, it is no ones fault. The cruelty lies in what they do to the losing animals, the law needed to be tightened on this, the dogs love their jobs and don't know what awaits them hence why they run their little hearts out
the race isn't cruel itself ? the dogs love their jobs ? no kidding ! the pitbulls enjoying their jobs too when they fight . that make dogs fighting ok ? any competitions that can hurt the dogs in such degree is a cruel one . just my thoughts .
@osmiu you can't compare racing to fighting. Dogs and horses love to run. Dogs don't enjoy fighting (though they do it because it's part of their instincts to be the boss), but they do like running. Yes, people do push animals to their limits, but there are a lot of racing animals that love what they do...so how is letting them run bad? :) just my opinion.
"Dogs don't enjoy fighting" ? I did not said that . There are over 200 breeds of dogs . So , once again ... I did not said that "dogs enjoying fighting" .
how is letting them run bad ? how ? well ... it's look to you like a free running in the park ? what is with that rabbit in there ? is there a chance that dogs are conditioned to chase a rabbit in this "letting them run" ? it not seem like "letting" to me . and is very bad if they get hurt . and they get hurt . no ?
@osmiu I do not know what I wrote to reply to this comment, I can't find it...? If it is bigging up dog racing I don't believe it was actually me as I am quite against most dog racing, unless it was years bk, I was going to work at a track but got there & just went fuck that.
I know MANY pit dogs who have been rescued, they DON'T enjoy the work they've been warped into twisted killers by us, once out of the pit environment and allowed to try and retain some sanity they become dogs again!
@osmiu Haha you just made a right fool of yourself! I know 3 pitbulls all rescues from the pit fights, you absolute idiot. One of them is missing her ear after what they did to her and all but one cannot be allowed near other dogs anymore so they never get to go and play with their friends like dogs should! The rest of the pit dogs I know are pit x staff or pit x english bulldogs or american bull dogs generally, some are pure staff aswell.
you are way too stupid for me to talk to you . like 90% from youtubers you know shit about pitbulls . your words prove it . I can explain some things to you , but you are way too retarded to understand anything . You just not worth it .
"I know 3 pitbulls all rescues from the pit fights" ... looool ... like I said before ... you know some dogs put to fight ... but NO PITBULLS . you are a joke , my retarded friend .
I know 2 purebred pitbulls, actual american pitbulls that were imported to breed for fighting in England. Around my area pitbull x staffs are used in Gang fights to gain more territory, I've watched them set the dogs on each other and had to call the police over it. There is are secret pit fights going on all over the country here and my area is no different.
So yeah, carry on with your 'I can read your mind through a comment and know you are lying' gag.
you don't know SHIT ! "purebred pitbull" ... lol ... coming from the secret parts of the hood . ghetto line red nose ... you are a moron , and a stupid . you don't have a clue about pitbull . none . zero . nada . you can stay with your ghetto curs "trained to fight" , bozo . you and the other 90% youtubers . you saved some poor abused aggressive mongrels and you brag yourself that you saved pitbulls ! get the fuck off ... the only pitbulls you see are in your head !
I do not have use for grammar . I am not an english teacher . So I don't give a fuck . She is a stupid bich and you a total retard . She have a pitbull ? No shit ! From what line ? From what champions ? Her dog prove himself against who ? In what matches ? ghetto red nose ? loooool . Put a link in here to that dog , to all of us to see . Show me what you and your whore friend think you have . Because I know that she have SHIT . Like all that are in your head : SHIT .
This is totally faulse.....Ive been in Greyhounds for 30 years.....If my dogs dont win im more likely to go to a vet to check there is no phiscal reason . If its true about the man beating his dog he should be reported......holding him up as a example of a trainer is the same as saying EVERY parent beats there child because it does badly in a exam.
Get real people......most people I know with greyhounds have them because they love them
@MYBIGKINDHEART ....how do you mean....its natural for them to chase....like its natural for a Collie to work sheep. They are bred to chase and enjoy it
@bratsdelight Sheep dogs aren't normally put down when they break a leg and can't herd anymore. Nor are they kept in small cages stacked on top of one another, let out only two times a day, fed the MINIMUM they need to survive. I toured tracks before, as a representative of a greyhound rescue group. It's not cruel that they RUN, it's cruel how they keep and care for the dogs.
@Inhumantics im sorry but unless you have actually worked in a greyhounds kennel then you dont know what your on about. all you did was tour? i work in greyhound racing kennels and it is not like that. in fact i was shocked the first time i saw their food.big bowls filled to the brim with all sort of food including tripe and minced meat. they are not kept in cages they are kept in kennels and actually quite enjoy their lives. so get the facts right before mouthing off about a tour.
Umm people do the same sort of racing? Humans run for a living too. I do not see any cruelty in this, the dog is never killed, that's why we have animal protection laws :D
@SlavicGene You need to do a little more research there, ALOT of these dogs are killed. When thery are retired from racing or get injured, or just dont win. What do you think happens to all the dogs when they cant race anymore? That their owners just have a couple hundred dogs running around their house? Get real. Yes there are laws in place to safe guard the dogs, and other animals. but there is not enough funding or manpower to enforce all of them all the time.
This is exactly like a Thoroughbred race. But, this is more dangerous because you don't have anyone controlling the dog, so it could just go out of control and attack another dog.
ask yourselves if it really makes sense to abuse a dog, feed it tainted food, or force it to run? Plain and simple, it WON'T run well. When it gets to that point, 98% of us retire the dog into our own homes, get it to a friend/family member, or give it to the adoption programs. The argument that we abuse our animals to make them run for us it absurd. It's totally counter-productive. And I will tell you Greys LOVE the track. They are very intelligent animals and highly competitive.
I am a racing Grey owner and cant speak for every track but the ones I race at, I can tell you all of the greyhounds there are extremely well taken care of and loved. Owners, kennel owners, and trainers all have a passion for racing but more importantly for the dogs welfare. Is there abuse? Sadly, yes. The people that abuse any animal should face serious repercussions and should never return to the industry. The mass majority of us rely on the dog(s) to be in the money so we can get a check so..
We have 3 rescued racing greyhounds. One of them, whom we adopted but a month ago at her age of 7 1/2, was a racer and a brood mom. She did one race at this MardiGras track and it makes me ill to think of her being there even that long. She is loving being in a home; acts like a pup with new things to say and do, two buddies and a special bed in the living room. Thanks for showing this video.
WHAT A DISGRACE ..COMMENTATOR..AN EMBARRASSMENT TO RACE CALLING...AND THE POOR GREYHOUNDS..IVE BEEN WITNESS TO WHAT THESE EVIL MEN DO FOR THE GREEN BACK...ONE DAY ALL YOULL ALL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS...
Totally disgusting that we have sanctioned animal abuse as entertainment in the USA--this, circuses, rodeos, donkey basketball, etc. It is not much better than bull fighting or bull running in Spain and Mexico. Why don't decent humans stand up for the abolishment of these so-called sports? Everyone who has half a brain knows this is animal abuse for money. It has to stop.
I'm a rodeoer and proud to say it. All of those PETA and SHARK videos are from over the seas rodeos. If anyone is seen using ANY electric device or hurtful device on the animal, they will be banned and reported to the police.
Word had it that several people were fired on the spot that night and the dog was euthanized on the track. The brake for the lure seemed to be working fine when they tested it afterwards. I watch and bet on races partially because I like greyhounds. Activists will say that is counterintuitive, but in the end, without racing this breed wouldn't be as it is today and may not exist at all. Certainly 90% of the greyhounds alive today simply wouldn't exist. I say living beats not being born any day.
@xxxRL7xxx actually it's hunting that made these dogs the way they are, not the tracks... and it's the betting (the money!!! always the money) that treats these dogs as garbage. If you want to see grey's run, go to a park. (or come to my house :-D) or go to a track for people who let their pet-grey's race as a hobby. When there is money involved, it's always the animals that gets pushed aside. please don't contribute to the problem...
@xxxRL7xxx Maybe many of those dogs never being born would be a good thing, considering the sheer amount of unwanted dogs that can't get homes and are put to sleep every single day.
I think this was the last live greyhound race I attended. Coincidence... probably. This was rough to watch though, as soon as that 5 dog took off in the wrong direction it turned into one of those slow-mo type things, like watching a car accident about to happen. You can hear the announcer is clearly distracted watching the whole thing unfold. In the end it was a freak accident caused by extraordinary circumstances and a couple mistakes by the staff.
Wtf, really? They race dogs for money. And when that poor dog was rolling in the dirt, all that bumbfuck said was "Going down was number 5".See, they dont even care, all they careabout is the money.
sorry.... guys.. but to be honest..... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHHAHHAHAH ROFL!!!!! HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHH.... aww man that was HILARIOUS!!! (its just so funny u guys really care for dogs when they fail but when some dude fails its like ROFL) I just frikin laughed
@Killablazedude Because dogs are not obnoxious abusive pieces of shit, like these congesting fuckwits that abuse living creatures for money. Here is your answer, you fucking kid.
I like this because it shows the truth! I no longer support dog racing. I witnessed a pile up. They killed those dogs on the track. I would have adopted them and assumed all vet bills. I've since learned of the abuses behind closed doors. while the situation has improved, many dogs still suffer treatment of the most horrible forms. I now adopt the worse case scenerios, considered un-showable, or in physical/ mental trauma. support reitired racing greyhound adoption.
im sorry but im going to put all the racing hates to rest in the uk there are no longer 8 dog racing as its very dangerous the dogs are looked after very well ask any owner of a dog that they have in a kennel the dogs are well looked after as there is a vet at the track to care for the dog theses dogs love to run so give it a rest
Just because a dog went down this is instantly 'cruel'. It's not like the dogs are beat to death to get them to run. They run at free will you idiots. How is this cruel? -_-
I volunteer at a greyhound rescue… the cruelty of this sport, in the US at least, is that once these dogs have outlived their purpose, or can no longer race, they're often disposed of. That's why rescues like GU were created, so that people had a place to take these beautiful dogs when they weren't wanted anymore.
These dogs are some of the most grateful creatures I've ever met. They're happy just to be loved. It pains me that they're so easily cast aside. That's the biggest issue with racing.
Horse racing is way more regulated than dog racing, not to mention the fact that the human is in as much danger as the horse, if not more, so the entire sport is generally safer, and due to its visibility, more attention is paid to it.
Horses and greyhounds alike love to run, and I have no issues with letting them do that. It's when the animals are killed after they don't make any more money when I have a problem.
And who cares if your mascot is a greyhound? How is that relevant?
@hitheresunshine good for you i thought you were some tree hugging bitch nvm yeah i agree with you that killing the dog is wrong. no i was just saying my school mascot is greyhound god chill down bitch. greyhounds are awsome i love em horse are cool too. and even though im a hunter i love animals and i eat what ever i kill so
it is just like buying meat from the store its just that the animals in the wild have a lot better life so give me bs about being a hunter and again i LOVE animals
But yeah, greyhounds are awesome. Sighthounds in general, really. Have you ever been to an AKC lure coursing event? Absolutely fantastic; I highly recommend you go see one at least once. I attended one just last Saturday (my whippet ran her JC, and her cousin earned Best In Field), and watching those dogs run was amazing. And you could tell they love doing it, too; they were flipping their shit waiting for their turn.
@MrDudeer Tree hugging? So not agreeing with animal abuse makes you a hippie or what? I can see that your school mascot is a greyhound. I can only conclude that you are actually at school, and you probably just hit puberty. You are not a hunter. You are just a little nerdy piece of shit, making up stories and being social awkward by mentioning random "facts" about you.
@PlaguedMan dude go lick your own man-gina and shit bricks which you then use to make a house. I am not a socially awkward, nerdy, peice of shit. your just jellous you can only talk to one girl, yourself. and i am only a self proclaimed nerd when it comes to guns. i regret making the comment about my masccot. in most cases, like this one, i like animals more than humans, thats why i hunt to give them a better life. so FUCK OFF NUM MAN-GINA
@hitheresunshine Hi, I'm from europe(belgium), I don't know if you know but there is allot of racing in Spain too. The people of spain also use these dogs (there they're called galgo's and are a bit smaller) for hunting in the fields. At the end of the hunting season (and when a dog isn't fast enough on the track) the galgo's get killed on the most horrible ways. These people have a superstition that their next dog will be allot beter and faster if the dog they want to get rid off suffers allot.
@hitheresunshine so the more the dog suffers and is tortured, the better the next dog will be. they cut off the nose and tong, poke out their eyes, break their legs, ... and than they are hang by their necks, with their hindlegs just touching the ground. When they get tired, they'll suffocate themselfs. I don't understand people who do such a thing. After all the love and help that dog has given, they 'thank' him like that... I have a greyhound X malinois mix, he's a wonderfull creature :-)
@saminiky You say that the biggest prob of racing is that the dog gets cast aside when he isn't fast enough, I was just giving an example of how race hounds are treated in spain, their the biggest prob is the abuse and mistreatment, and that is true animal abuse.
@hitheresunshine shut up if you knew how they were raised and how happy they were you would not be saying this! you have probaly never been to a greyhound farm or a kennel so stop this bull shit!!!!!
@hitheresunshine I don't understand how people can just cast aside a dog like that with no thought whatsoever. They become like a part of the family to me.
@hitheresunshine well at least there isn't a corrupt jockey to ride a greyhound but further to what you say it is really sad that they are sort of cast aside after it's racing days, i couldn't do that
How do you suggest that you stop a 150 lb. rolling piece of steel with no brakes? That's why there is a brakeman in the infield. Only he can stop the lure, in a designated area, after the finish line. Sure, you can power off the lure, but it keeps on coasting. Even if you powered off the lure at that speed, it still would have hit the dog at almost full speed, before slowing down. Then you also endanger the 7 other dogs lives that are running behind the lure.
@SkywayTA You update you'r lure system. A simple outside swaftam system is cheap and easy to maintain. Its run by ataching the lure or "hare" to a wire that uses a pully system driven by a flywheel all under ground, the only thing wisable is a small metal rod covered by a windsock. The speed is adjustable and has an emergengy stop button that stops the hare safely within 10 metres. also 150lbs? wtf? thats an adult male! no wonder it killed him.
@greyhoundpaul Yes, the motor weighs 150 lbs. However, the dog didn't get hit with the motor; he got hit with the arm. The arm is made of a lightweight metal that does bend fairly easy. It's similar to the "small metal rod" that you mentioned. If the dog ever got hit with the motor, he would have exploded into a million pieces. I was the brakeman and lure operator at a dog track for 11 years, so I'm not just Googling nonsense.
@naturelover222 it is abuse. look up pictures of racing greyhounds behind the scenes. it's heartbreaking. they live for 3 years just to run around a track and get pumped full of drugs. how is that not cruelty?
@naturelover222 these dogs are forced into racing and are usually put to death after they can no longer race (a lifespan of no more than 3 years). These animals are confined to cages all day and only get out to race and train. This is animal cruelty, and its amazing to me that this is even legal still. When I first got my rescue racer, she was nothing but skin and bone, and was the most nervous animal I had ever seen.
they aren't shot once they stop racing they go up for adoption until they are found a home, and what you don't realise is that they do find loving home with people who care for them.
@hannahlou1997 thats wishful, only a small percent of industry dogs get rehomed through adoption - not even 3% of dogs whelped in australia, and thats considered a generous estimate. the dogs at this track probably are lethal injection at least this is what i would hope - but i really wouldnt know - does that make it okey? i was talking to someone yesterday whose friend rescued her greyhound - tied to a tree several km's from a track with its ears cut off (no tattoo). a bullet IS common
Respond to this video... the us adoption is better than australia but only because of groups like grey2k - they are responsible for closing down tracks, making the industry more transparent and ensuring higher numbers of dogs are rehomed no matter what health state they are in. here, the adoption program is in its early stage and used only as a marketing strategy FOR the industry. bugger all animals are saved.
my family owns a greyhound and he is one of the most loved dogs in the world, no he is not only in existance to race and make money he has a life aswell, and when he retires as a amazing home to come back to, so before you go critizing greyhound racing learn everything about it first and go have a go at the discusing people who dump there dogs in lakes and mistreat them and beat them.
And this brings me to my third point... they make great racers not only because of their physical ability, but because they are very loyal, generally demure, sweet, responsive animals... perfect for putting up with the unusual racing lifestyle. Perfect for abuse... its about the exploit of their all-around characteristics for human excitement, financial gain, or "love of the sport"...
Believe me, if a grey could understand the odds, they'd choose a life of racing around the yard.
Secondly, we all love seeing a grey accelerate... its one of the most exciting visuals in the animal kingdom. But we can see this in a field when we call to them, or a in a good backyard romp. Greys do not NEED the track! Humans need the track! Greys are perfectly happy given even short bouts of daily exercise, and some space to be themselves... the rest of the time they are perfectly content to even lie in whatever room you are in. So Sweet.
@mkloppers I now live in Scotland and i have to say that the way these dogs are treated "After there working life " has expired is deplorable. I live close to a Greyhound rescue centre and see alot of the elder ones enjoying the later stages of there lives but i do know what goes on behind the scenes with 95% of the rest and am disturbed by it. I am a loving dog owner ( Charlie + Jess (Jack Russells) ) and the industry should be haulled over the coals for this incident.
@mkloppers if you woul dsee them before they race you would not be saying this!! when they know they are going to race they get so hyped because they know they get to go run once they win they show off all there swag so stop putting down them racing
They may be happy, but were it not for the greyhound rescues like Greyhounds Unlimited and GALT (two organizations I work with), then these animals would be killed after they couldn't race anymore.
GALT recently got three dogs who had their legs broken by racing, and their "owners" gave them up because they couldn't make money anymore.
First of all, just because there are plenty of loving racer owners and good tracks that take care of their dogs, it does not justify the thousands of greys that die, are euthenized, left to die, abandoned, chemically abused (cocaine etc), mass graves with duct tape around their necks, and injured without immediate proper treatment every year.
No matter how you slice it, as a whole, the sport is sick for the sheer number of deaths associated.
@mkloppers finest statement on this abuse called sport i've seen on the internet - thank you. i'm tempted to cut and paste it (referencing your youtube name) to save me the time of explaining this to others. those adoption programs run by the industry (in austrralia, GAP) are nothing but slick marketing to cover up the thousands of animals that are shot in backyards and killed in clinics once they are no longer useful to the owners. and i just read about their export 'program' to macau >(
My stepsister has a an ex-racing greyhound "Daring Easy Jet" that won 1 out of 14 races and won it at Marti Gras track. She's very sweet and docile, and she's called Maude now.
I watched the video 3 times and still dont know what happened. The 5 falls down then what? The guy says "get the 5??? I must be missing something? He's probably saying get the 5 cause its laying in the middle of the track.
@mrgribble 5 get up and runs at the 'hare' coming toward him instead of away from him and because it is mechanical he just runs straight into it and flips over
@mrgribble The 5 fell early in the race, but didn't get injured. Later the 5 saw the lure coming around and ran to get it in the opposite direction. The 5 jumped on the lure, and most of the other dogs stopped running. When the guy said 'get the 5' he was hoping someone would grab the dog before it went for the lure.

In many states that still have legal dog racing once the dog is injured/ too old to race it should be placed into adoption but many dogs simply just disappear. The AZ Dept. for Racing is among the saddest. At one point 16 dogs seemed to have just fell off the grid..maybe their at the bottom of one of those mass graves that were made for greyhounds in the desert.Humans make me sick! and I'm patiently waiting till something/someone shows up on this planet and abuses us like we've done to animals.
Dogs have a much higher disposition towards humans compared to any other animal in this world. Its sad to see how dogs are reduced to no more than racers and are raced for money... it's just sad..
Ok wow anglefish I don't care how old you are you need to get your facts straight I work not my friend I work at a greyhound racing kennel at Derby lane florida. Ok and there is no beating of dogs, they don't get starved, this video is just a freak thing that happened that's it.
@AngelFishxx1 : Where do you get your information? That is absolute crap, they do not beat them or kill them if they lose. I know people who have trained Greyhounds for years and they are very well looked after whether they win or lose. It is a sport and greyhounds love to chase, their is absolutely nothing cruel about it.

@JobsFromHomeOz Yes there is! I have a friend who work with them and he sees the owners beat them! My God, people you don't even know me so SHUT UP. I think I know my life, so stop with the stupid and annoying comments okay?
@AngelFishxx1 and if you are 11 why are you looking at dogs dieing and have friends who work at kennels? basicaly i think the annoying comments are the ones that dont tell the truth. It is legal and ok. The illegal races, you are correct. RSPCA = no more illegal races. THIS = not illegal race.
@FuckedGamingSkills Okay, let's just get this straight, k? Just because im 11, doesn't mean i can't have a friend that works at a dog track. He's twenty three years old and he's still my friend. And yeah, it might be illegal, but the beatings are true. I would never lie on the internet. If i say something, I don't just say it. I only left it as a comment because i can't stand to watch those poor dogs, and I wanted people to know what happens to them afterwards so they stop encouraging dog racing
@bratsdelight Um, nope. They do beat the dogs if they lose. Unless you race greyhounds, not tell me im misguided because i know someone who works with greyhound racers and they're always afraid that he's gonna hit them or hurt them. There has also been videos on google of people abusing their dogs after a bad race.
@LennyCravis DONT YOU DARE SAY THOSE WORDS TO ME. YOU DON'T KNOW WHO THE HECK I AM. WHERE DO YOU LIVE? HUH? WHY DON'T YOU TELL ME AND I CAN SHOW YOU HOW DUMB I AM! AND PLUS, I KNOW SOMEONE WHO WORKS WITH DOG RACING. HE WITNESSES BEATS WHEN THEY LOSE! SO DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME TO SHUT THE **** UP. I'M ONLY 11 YEARS OLD! KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND STOP TELLING PEOPLE YOUR OPINION CUZ IT SUCKS!
@LennyCravis You wanna whose going to cry? You, because you're a pathetic loser whom's life is to search YouTube and try to sound big and tough against 11 year olds. Oh, are you country or British? It's hard to tell with your "tough act" and your words. What's up with 'mum'? Everybody on YouTube is allowed to have an opinion, and mine is to you, "You're a gross freak who sits on the computer all day, trying to sound all big and tough." But it's your life, so have fun with it, freak.
@LennyCravis You make no since you hobknocker. I bet you have buck teeth and an adam's apple. Isn't that right? Oh, of course it is you country hick! Stop talking to me.
@AngelFishxx1@LennyCravis you are both not makeing sence. AngelFishxx1 is slaging off at her self and being a hypocrite and LennyCravis is being rude. No one is perfect and people talk shit. and if you dont want them to talk back YOU dont talk back.
I have to admit I admire watching the greyhounds race, I find it cool to see them do what they are built for; run! But there's a point where people just get too dang competitive, and push the dogs way too hard. My opinion is; let the dogs race, just don't turn it into something so serious as to harm or injure the dog because they just aren't fast enough.
I hate how people say racing is abusive, although I come from the horse racing industry I know any and all accidents can not be avoided. That is why they are called ACCIDENTS. Do you know how fit they are. They could be locked up in an apartment building rather than racing and letting their energy out. Sometimes I race with my two dogs in my backyard. Is that abusive? NO!
Those rabbits are under high voltage. The dog 'colliding' with the rabbit bit down and basically got electrocuted, it happened before. That's why it ends up on its back and that's why the dogs slow down towards the end. They have no rabbit to chase anymore. To me it's an unforgivable mistake to not get nr 5 off the track and let it get close to the rabbit.
Atleast he died happy, he finally caught the rabbit.
We have to hope that no other dogs out his new trick.

Obviously my nephew knows what sometimes happens to animals at the vets so he was left hoping it would get better. I've seen several dogs fall in races and it's common but since hearing and seeing that one dog in pain, and we watched it being carried right past us, i don't support dog racing anymore. Each to their own i suppose but that was one night i won't forget.
kayleyjay 2 weeks ago

PlaguedMan 2 weeks ago
It isn't "fun" for these dogs to get hurt, and then be put down. They're euthanized when they can't run, or otherwise picked up by a rescue group if they're lucky. The cages are small and stacked; do you think they run around in a nice happy home after a run? They're lucky if they get out twice a day to urinate. I've seen how they live there, I've seen how some handlers treat them like garbage; they have bypassed some abuse laws by passing for "property" as opposed to an animal, a dog.

Now that this is illegal what do you think is going to happen to al the dogs that could not get a home
waterhorsez 1 month ago
The race ins't cruel itself, just think, if you are running at this speed and you put even a part of your toe in the wrong place or catch your heel, you are gonna go down hard and fast, it is no ones fault. The cruelty lies in what they do to the losing animals, the law needed to be tightened on this, the dogs love their jobs and don't know what awaits them hence why they run their little hearts out
xXeMokiDXxMCRXx 1 month ago 4
@xXeMokiDXxMCRXx
the race isn't cruel itself ? the dogs love their jobs ? no kidding ! the pitbulls enjoying their jobs too when they fight . that make dogs fighting ok ? any competitions that can hurt the dogs in such degree is a cruel one . just my thoughts .
osmiu 1 week ago
@osmiu you can't compare racing to fighting. Dogs and horses love to run. Dogs don't enjoy fighting (though they do it because it's part of their instincts to be the boss), but they do like running. Yes, people do push animals to their limits, but there are a lot of racing animals that love what they do...so how is letting them run bad? :) just my opinion.
barbaro267 1 week ago
@barbaro267

There is are secret pit fights going on all over the country here and my area is no different.

@bratsdelight how do they train greyhounds?
MYBIGKINDHEART 1 month ago
@MYBIGKINDHEART ....how do you mean....its natural for them to chase....like its natural for a Collie to work sheep. They are bred to chase and enjoy it
bratsdelight 1 month ago
@bratsdelight Sheep dogs aren't normally put down when they break a leg and can't herd anymore. Nor are they kept in small cages stacked on top of one another, let out only two times a day, fed the MINIMUM they need to survive. I toured tracks before, as a representative of a greyhound rescue group. It's not cruel that they RUN, it's cruel how they keep and care for the dogs.
Inhumantics 1 month ago 3

SlavicGene 2 months ago
@SlavicGene You need to do a little more research there, ALOT of these dogs are killed. When thery are retired from racing or get injured, or just dont win. What do you think happens to all the dogs when they cant race anymore? That their owners just have a couple hundred dogs running around their house? Get real. Yes there are laws in place to safe guard the dogs, and other animals. but there is not enough funding or manpower to enforce all of them all the time.
erintubb 2 months ago

Bosphorus32 3 months ago

I say living beats not being born any day.
xxxRL7xxx 5 months ago
@xxxRL7xxx actually it's hunting that made these dogs the way they are, not the tracks... and it's the betting (the money!!! always the money) that treats these dogs as garbage. If you want to see grey's run, go to a park. (or come to my house :-D) or go to a track for people who let their pet-grey's race as a hobby. When there is money involved, it's always the animals that gets pushed aside. please don't contribute to the problem...
saminiky 4 months ago

I now adopt the worse case scenerios, considered un-showable, or in physical/ mental trauma. support reitired racing greyhound adoption.

@WerewolfOfTheWater In greyhound racing they don't put the dogs down on the track. I have read into this event and the dog was not even put to sleep.
XoDonutxBreyeroX 1 month ago
I volunteer at a greyhound rescue… the cruelty of this sport, in the US at least, is that once these dogs have outlived their purpose, or can no longer race, they're often disposed of. That's why rescues like GU were created, so that people had a place to take these beautiful dogs when they weren't wanted anymore.
These dogs are some of the most grateful creatures I've ever met. They're happy just to be loved. It pains me that they're so easily cast aside. That's the biggest issue with racing.
hitheresunshine 6 months ago 37
@hitheresunshine let me guess you probably dont like horse racing either wow. btw my school mascott is the greyhounds
MrDudeer 5 months ago
@MrDudeer
How is that relevant?
hitheresunshine 5 months ago
@hitheresunshine good for you i thought you were some tree hugging bitch nvm yeah i agree with you that killing the dog is wrong. no i was just saying my school mascot is greyhound god chill down bitch. greyhounds are awsome i love em horse are cool too. and even though im a hunter i love animals and i eat what ever i kill so

MrDudeer 2 weeks ago
@hitheresunshine Hi, I'm from europe(belgium), I don't know if you know but there is allot of racing in Spain too. The people of spain also use these dogs (there they're called galgo's and are a bit smaller) for hunting in the fields. At the end of the hunting season (and when a dog isn't fast enough on the track) the galgo's get killed on the most horrible ways. These people have a superstition that their next dog will be allot beter and faster if the dog they want to get rid off suffers allot.
saminiky 4 months ago
@hitheresunshine so the more the dog suffers and is tortured, the better the next dog will be. they cut off the nose and tong, poke out their eyes, break their legs, ... and than they are hang by their necks, with their hindlegs just touching the ground. When they get tired, they'll suffocate themselfs. I don't understand people who do such a thing. After all the love and help that dog has given, they 'thank' him like that... I have a greyhound X malinois mix, he's a wonderfull creature :-)
saminiky 4 months ago

@SkywayTA you can allways stop in the ineterest of safety. its in the rules of racing.
greyhoundpaul 6 months ago
@greyhoundpaul
SkywayTA 5 days ago
@SkywayTA You update you'r lure system. A simple outside swaftam system is cheap and easy to maintain. Its run by ataching the lure or "hare" to a wire that uses a pully system driven by a flywheel all under ground, the only thing wisable is a small metal rod covered by a windsock. The speed is adjustable and has an emergengy stop button that stops the hare safely within 10 metres. also 150lbs? wtf? thats an adult male! no wonder it killed him.
greyhoundpaul 5 days ago
@greyhoundpaul Yes, the motor weighs 150 lbs. However, the dog didn't get hit with the motor; he got hit with the arm. The arm is made of a lightweight metal that does bend fairly easy. It's similar to the "small metal rod" that you mentioned. If the dog ever got hit with the motor, he would have exploded into a million pieces. I was the brakeman and lure operator at a dog track for 11 years, so I'm not just Googling nonsense.

@naturelover222 these dogs are forced into racing and are usually put to death after they can no longer race (a lifespan of no more than 3 years). These animals are confined to cages all day and only get out to race and train. This is animal cruelty, and its amazing to me that this is even legal still. When I first got my rescue racer, she was nothing but skin and bone, and was the most nervous animal I had ever seen.

hannahlou1997 6 months ago
@hannahlou1997 thats wishful, only a small percent of industry dogs get rehomed through adoption - not even 3% of dogs whelped in australia, and thats considered a generous estimate. the dogs at this track probably are lethal injection at least this is what i would hope - but i really wouldnt know - does that make it okey? i was talking to someone yesterday whose friend rescued her greyhound - tied to a tree several km's from a track with its ears cut off (no tattoo). a bullet IS common
akirrab00 6 months ago
Respond to this video... the us adoption is better than australia but only because of groups like grey2k - they are responsible for closing down tracks, making the industry more transparent and ensuring higher numbers of dogs are rehomed no matter what health state they are in. here, the adoption program is in its early stage and used only as a marketing strategy FOR the industry. bugger all animals are saved.

I am a loving dog owner ( Charlie + Jess (Jack Russells) ) and the industry should be haulled over the coals for this incident.
andytaggart 2 months ago
@mkloppers if you woul dsee them before they race you would not be saying this!! when they know they are going to race they get so hyped because they know they get to go run once they win they show off all there swag so stop putting down them racing
blakeboc22 2 months ago
@blakeboc22
You, sir, are a fool.

There are some glaring misconceptions here.

@akirrab00 They don't shoot them. You have NO PROOF they shoot them have you watch them put a gun to their heads and shoot them?

My stepsister has a an ex-racing greyhound "Daring Easy Jet" that won 1 out of 14 races and won it at Marti Gras track. She's very sweet and docile, and she's called Maude now.

IT DOESNT DIE, THE DOGS CHASE THE HARE, SO WHEN IT FALLS IT JUST WAITS FOR THE HARE THEN JUMPS IT, THAT MAKES THE DOGS STOP!

I watched the video 3 times and still dont know what happened. The 5 falls down then what? The guy says "get the 5??? I must be missing something? He's probably saying get the 5 cause its laying in the middle of the track.
mrgribble 7 months ago
@mrgribble 5 get up and runs at the 'hare' coming toward him instead of away from him and because it is mechanical he just runs straight into it and flips over
DeathKitty123456 7 months ago

5150Moshpit 7 months ago
Dogs have a much higher disposition towards humans compared to any other animal in this world. Its sad to see how dogs are reduced to no more than racers and are raced for money... it's just sad..

AngelFishxx1 8 months ago
@AngelFishxx1 and if you are 11 why are you looking at dogs dieing and have friends who work at kennels? basicaly i think the annoying comments are the ones that dont tell the truth. It is legal and ok. The illegal races, you are correct. RSPCA = no more illegal races. THIS = not illegal race.
FuckedGamingSkills 7 months ago
@FuckedGamingSkills Yes thats what i mean! And yes, i really do have a friend that works with retired dogs such as these.
AngelFishxx1 7 months ago
@FuckedGamingSkills Okay, let's just get this straight, k? Just because im 11, doesn't mean i can't have a friend that works at a dog track. He's twenty three years old and he's still my friend. And yeah, it might be illegal, but the beatings are true. I would never lie on the internet. If i say something, I don't just say it. I only left it as a comment because i can't stand to watch those poor dogs, and I wanted people to know what happens to them afterwards so they stop encouraging dog racing

@AngelFishxx1 ....you are misguided....thats rubbish
bratsdelight 8 months ago
@bratsdelight Um, nope. They do beat the dogs if they lose. Unless you race greyhounds, not tell me im misguided because i know someone who works with greyhound racers and they're always afraid that he's gonna hit them or hurt them. There has also been videos on google of people abusing their dogs after a bad race.

It's hard to tell with your "tough act" and your words. What's up with 'mum'? Everybody on YouTube is allowed to have an opinion, and mine is to you, "You're a gross freak who sits on the computer all day, trying to sound all big and tough." But it's your life, so have fun with it, freak.

brett5050rocks 9 months ago
