Nice. And exactly what was wrong with what I said? Nothing, because it's true. Did Steve Porcaro or John Bettis ever record it? No. They gave it to Michael and therefore it's considered a Michael Jackson original.
Maybe by you, but certainly not by the legion of songwriters and composers out there who are not necessarily performers but who make their living by getting their songs to performers. Let's put it another way. If "Human Nature" had been nominated for Song of the Year, the Grammy would have gone to Porcaro/Bettis, not Michael Jackson. You're obviously not in the business, or else you are mistaken as to what 'original' means.
The Orginal song is sung by Michael. I'm not trying to take away from the writers but even thought they did write it they didn't originally put it out in the public first. The first is the original.
Example, Elvis is the orginal singer of "Viva Las Vegas" even though he didn't write it.
Okay, now you are changing your tune. Yes, Elvis is the original singer of "Viva Las Vegas" and MJ is the original singer of "Human Nature" (at least in terms of public release), but that's not what you originally said. You said it was a "Michael Jackson original", and it is not. Fact, plain and simple. The original recording is, in fact, the demo made to shop it to singers, however, granted it is not a public release. But you don't know if anyone else recorded it first & it just wasn't a hit.
I'm not changing anything. When people cover those songs they give credit to the original singers, Elvis and Michael. It's an Elvis original. It's a Michael Jackson original. This is sort of like the "where does life begin" arguments. I'm not, nor did I ever, say you were wrong. I totally see your point, but I have a different view
We'll agree to disagree. I have been in the music business for 45 years, and the proper wording (and credit) are not loose concepts or matters of opinion, but very precise legal matters. You can cripple or destroy your career with loose lips. If you're not in the business, then it probably doesn't matter much to you, but if you are........
@MissTiffani2 composers are paid for their tunes selling by artists, and they are protected by various agencies so that they are compensated for the use of their compositions.
Michael Jackson had to lease the rights to this tune any time he used it, be it performing live, or selling on disc, or selling remixes or alternate mixes.
If you don't want to read all that, you can rest assured that I've summed it up here: Ya don't know what tha fuck ya talkin about!!!
this person looks confused it dosent matter its an MJ Original lets jus say those dudes that wrote it wouldnt gt any awards if it wasnt for MJ he put the power 2 the whole song dats y its well known and dats y the people love it.
Steve Porcaro wrote the music and John Bettis put the words to it. I think Quincy Jones explained it on the 'Special Edition' release of 'Thriller' (2001).
@michelangeli23 Not to be rude, but MJ wasn't a musician. He did play instruments every once in a while, but people know him for his voice/choreography.
Thank you for posting!! I have seen this concert in Hamburg and it was wonderful. Miles was one of the most creative musicans, the father of cool jazz and electric jazz ( Bitches Brew ).
I'll take all I can get of Bob Berg, anywhere, anytime, w/anybody. Nice duet here, and you don't see Bob on S. sax very often. I'll take him over Kenny G. any ol' time, any ol' where. R.I.P. to these two, one long before his time.
If you have read about, listen to miles you never would say this. Miles is here a genius. Without that many notes he can entertain. His timing is just perfect.... And his sound, he told once in a intervieuw that his trumpet is like a voice.....I can only dream to have the genius mind to play this......
Cut the man some slack. He was 60 years old!!! At that age you dont have the same breath control. But give him credit for being as innovative as he was at that age. Most people his age would have been stuck in their ways.
Twoties, thanks for the upload but why did you cut it right after the end? How about the "effect" time? You cut my feelings short, buddy! The musicians listing is a smart move though.
Sydmsu, very sagacious, Miles backing up tripped with a cable and Darryl Jones, quickly jumped to help him in case he falls, but nothing happened.
Miles in Hamburg was more inspired than in Tokyo as this number is double in length.
BTW, the way Miles cut off the gig is very anticlimactic, not my (humble) taste.
No problem, the clip is still plain fantastic !Compared to Miles' other performances to be seen right here, like Tokyo, Montreal, Isle of Wight, etc. this clip is the double in length, you can see him doin' some keys (very little, just fidgeting) and very inspired, indeed.
Wow, rare footage of Garth Webber on guitar with the band. He was there a short time, apparently his sound or style wasn't what Miles had been looking for. He tried different guitarists with the group until he finally settled on Foley. I think Webber was underrated, and he sounds great in this clip; He compliments everything Miles played and then takes the music someplace else.

It is not a Michael Jackson original. It was written by Steve Porcaro (of Toto)and John Bettis.
VinnieMonRow 2 years ago
Yeah but they gave it to Michael and he was the first to record it. So it would count as being originally by Michael.

5:10 was funny. Miles backed into the mic stand. Also, the ending how Miles ended the whole song. I tell you. He's a trip.

Miles is absolutely the main man !
so far ahead in every way.......he had a vision of where music was going way before any one had even thought of the musical ideas that he had.
Check out his painting and art to be stunned that he was a genius in two genres.
For further inspiration of someone who plays from the soul try Art Pepper from 1976 onwards.
