  • this Joan of arc was very irritating,,, but we will never know how Joan really was.

  • it was very moving.......

  • Battle of Patay: The english longbowmen no longer exist.

  • In July 1429 Joan of Arc had led a French army to lay seige for 4 days to the town of Troyes in Ch-Ardenne ( which was under English rule). Joans army was running out of food but fortunately, months earlier, there had been a wandering Friar; Brother Richard, who had been preaching that the world would end.For some strange reason the residents had responded by planting early beans. These happened to be ready and so the army ate them. Did the residents hope to climb up bean stalks to heaven ?

  • Et la superbe musique de Vangelis...

  • Probably already been said but...

    MUUULTIIII-PASS!

  • Defeated by a woman... This is England

  • @benjiAkatosh

Eh. You have maybe forgotten the men behind her. She could be just a great tacticial.

  • "Stand by to attack". That maneuver rarely did much for France when attacking an English line protected by longbowmen...

  • FUCK YOU FRENCH

  • @SidorakKing Peace, bro =)

    Benni

  • Isnt she the chick the played the 5th element????????

  • Return to the kitchen where thoust cometh Wench!

  • Pity that this is how they presented the battle of Patay (which I assume this is representing) as the real thing was epic.

1500 French men at arms defeat 9000 English in a single charge killing nearly six thousand.

I can guess what they going for with this but the real thing would be better in my opinion.

  • @LitD yes and only... 3 french soldiers killed !

  • @LitD its not, its after they conquer chapagne at the rine river, then cross the river to send this army away

  • I've heard that English is actually French spoken badly.

  • I WANT THAT GIRL BURNED ! : )) HHA Fuckersss

  • "In the sea, spanish i want, and if in land, may god proctect us"

    English proverb

  • Q for medieval warfare experts: The English manoeurvre at the end - archers/banners forward a bit - then the knights turn around. Was this a genuine practice at the time?

  • @crapatev Im not sure if this is how they retreated but the English army normally deployed with dismounted Knights/Men-at-arms in the centre (because they were well trained and equiped with armour they took the full force of the French army), the longbowmen deployed on the flanks so that when the French army charged the English centre the longbowmen can shoot into the French armies flanks.

  • @MultiAngryguy Thanks for your reply - Interesting to read.

  • She looks blind in this clip... :P she wasn't, was she?

  • @Reika15ful lol the English captain Glensdale looks blind aswell :P

  • What the heck did that English knight say at 1:37?

  • The English-French hatred. A long standing tradition. We English have always bickered with the French, and vise versa. These days its mostly in good fun though. (:

England and France forever. Two *great nations!

  • @Wallonische fuck france

  • @6580006247 fucking inbred English

  • this movie wasn't terrific... but what refreshing scene though, great scene of the movie

  • Mila Jovovich???

  • I have been living with a beautiful French woman for years, who came to England to live, when she was 18, and has lived here ever since! We go to France to see her famille, and my Welsh mother, and Cockney father went to live in France!

both great countries,as are all lands, potentially. Its the people who can make a country great. I make Houses, Fr. and Eng., in silver, on teapots! check me out, if you wish! michaelburtonsilver.co.uk have a lovely life, everyone !

  • why are characters in European stories always British not all Europeans have accents

  • it's kind of ironic that the french speak english in this movie LOL

  • @blaquehawq

Yes but what is ironic too that the English language is composed in great part of many French words .

  • Comment removed

  • @blaquehawq Yeah in reality both should have spoken in french.

  • @blaquehawq Haha I strongly agree^^

  • @blaquehawq .... With an American accent at a time when America was .... well .... Native.

  • I don't know if throughout history any other women leaded men to combat like that and actualy won. French history defenately is the greatest

  • @fra2603 there was a celtic woman who did once, i cant remember her name.

  • @jack16895

    Boadicca?

  • @fra2603 Vietnamese people take pride in their history because we had 2 lady princesses who destroyed Chinese armies and liberated some places from them.

  • @bigphillip25 yes but I'm going to tell you something sad and unfair but true : nobody cares about the asians.

  • @fra2603 And nobody cares about you either right?

  • @bigphillip25 do you mean me or europeans?

  • The British wore redcoats..why? When an officer was wounded his men wouldn't see the blood and wouldn't be discouraged!!

For almost the same reason the French officers wore brown trousers!!!

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

If you look well you can see that the English wore a yellow trousers ...

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

You are funny but you are wrong , the English pissed of fear in the face of a ..........sherpherdess ...

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

Moi je la revois encore ridiculiser la " grande armée Anglaise " en leur disant "il est temps de renter chez vous , too funny .

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

Thank you ?? Of what ? To have fled like a flock of young frightened girl when the French continued to fight . You are really good in clownish comment .

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

In 1940 question of the French general to the English general " we could do a cons-attack " . Response of the English general " no we prefer a " glorious retreat " . The shame was on your army with it's " glorious retreat " .

The English were crushed , the difference with the French is that the English had a natural element called the Channel . So the English fled well protected by the Channel while the French continued to fight and protected the English "glorious retreat ".

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

"we had no confidence in your Army typical French" . You are really funny with your hypocritcal comment . The truth is that you was afraid by the Blitzgrieg . You are so afraid that you give up all your military equipment in France .

"These men died for your country " totally false this men died with courage for the interest of UK and not for France .The French soldiers and the French resistance died for France and also the 300 000 civilians killed by the allied bombing .

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

What a kind of retarded child you are ? You ask for respect but you come here with your Francophobic comment . You know nothing about nothing . At the End of the war 120 000 French were condemned for collaboration and there were 500 000 French resistant . France was the country in Europe where more Jews were saved and the country of Europe where less jews were deported compared to the country's jewish population .

This is your brain who "get burned" by your French hatred.

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

" i don"t hate the French " of course you are only a typical English hypocrite . "true heros " very funny when the English in the history always need allied to fought the French heros alone .

Another clownish comment where you see that the half population of France collaborated ? And of course you forget the French Free Forces who fought alonside the allied , more than 1.3 million of soldiers . Remember the English was " prepared to fight " too , yet they were crushed also.

  • @ManOnTheMoon2 Why would Joan of Arc being a woman have to do with anything?

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

You are really a funny ignorant troll . Marechal de Luxembourg , Grand Condé , Marechal Turenne , Marechal Ney learn history instead listening English propaganda .

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

lol Very funny yes it's the Marechal Ney who kicked the ass of Welligton several times . In the history the French kicked your ass so many times even if you was hiding behind allied .

  • Comment removed

  • @ManOnTheMoon2

And when you say " wow big list " it's funny too because , there is several hours you say that the French had not men heros . Poor hypocritical French hater lol .

  • @saccyind

Idiot. There's rarely a good or evil in any war and the leaders of England at that time were all French anyway so...

  • from out of the Koran, God speaks 2U: ""Between you and me are 70.000 veils, between me and you, none"" We are so veilt, this is 1 of them, nationalism, I'm from...You are...so different.. it's soo shortminded, now let's face the other 69.999 Veils then :))))))) Peace, Braham ARCHANGEL MICHAEL'S CHANNEL from me, I'm a medium like Joan.

  • That is a shame, you are right. But the French dont forget their friendship with the Scots. Remember the "Marche des soldats de Wallace". Sheers

  • What a bad ass

  • Nobody without the power of the belief in God would ever be able to accomplish what that illiterate teenager accomplished: give France back her confidence and turn the tide of the English campaign. A nice lesson for the atheist infested Internet.

  • "Message from God" is more acceptable (for both armies) than "message from a peasant girl".

The "voices" she heard were probably just an excuse.

Btw, the Burgundy sold her -like they sold France to the Brits at the beginning of 100 years war- not the "French".

  • @TheStandofTheLastGuy

I was stating the number of Scots who fought at Orleans.

  • Very powerful scene.

  • That's not a rout, that's a retreat.

  • @kostyel well good historical movie with a good beer all time works for me ... but dont make me spell after it hehe ! sometimes not even before it hehehehe

  • @lol well i like to, i like to see my countrys history :P

  • @lfc011 The Norman conquest was a pivotal event in English history. It largely removed the native ruling class, replacing it with a foreign, French-speaking monarchy, aristocracy, and clerical hierarchy. This, in turn, brought about a transformation of the English language and the culture of England in a new era often referred to as Norman England.

  • @lfc011

By bringing England under the control of rulers originating in France, the Norman conquest linked the country more closely with continental Europe, lessened Scandinavian influence, and also set the stage for a rivalry with France that would continue intermittently for many centuries

  • @lfc011

Britain wasn't in this war. It was England,

  • Joan probably had brain damage. People with head injuries, especially to the frontal lobe, often start "seeing God" or other things that others do not. They get followers because it's not fake. It's as real to the person with the head injury as touching a hot stove is to the rest of us. In any case, don't mean it as an insult as it appears she saved a ton of human lives.

  • haha!!...necro sample... violins of violence!

  • okay this movie gave me nightmare's you knw the part when she see's jesus/god bleeding and crying (i think) i dream't that........ as if god was like giving me a sign

but didn't get it...so anyway's i woke up like at 3 in the morning sweating(did not pissed my bed) and this was like at age five or 6... still creeped out bout thinking it!!!

  • I loved this story. And this movie.

  • Best war film.

  • Hummm It's a movie, truth is: after the battle of Orleans , there are 4 other battles

1)The Battle of Jargeau.,2). The Battle of Meung-sur-Loire,3) The Battle of Beaugency.,4) The Battle of Patay.

Before the battle of Orleans , it was The Battle of the Herrings.

Unfortunately no homage to Scottish troops in this film.

  • @666Vredesbyrd

there were Scottish troops with the French? how many?

  • @kostyel

6000 soldiers (John Stewart or Stuart) with some archers and knights.

Scotish famillies in Orleans check here: franco-ecossaise.asso.fr/vahistoire.html in french .

here : Auld Alliance >>> vielle alliance on wiki.

  • @kostyel Roughly 6000.

Led by John stewart earl of Buchan

  • Not sure if I can find an exact figure...

At Orleans... about a thousand? But I can't find enough research sources.

  • @tenchimuyo69 okay, it is very interesting though! let me know if you manage to find some sources, thanks

  • @kostyel There was 6000 Scottish soldiers at the battle of Verneuil in 1424 (one of the biggest battles of the Hundred years war). The battle started when French cavelry charged longbowmen on the right flank of Bedfords dismounted men-at-arms, however instead of turning around to charge at Bedford from behind they carried on towards the English baggage train behind the English lines. Then Bedfords men-at-arms engaged the French men-at-arms (while another unit of men-at-arms under the earl...

  • @kostyel ... of sailsbury engaged the Scots.) While the Franco-Scottish army was fighting with the English a unit of Italian cavelry seeking glory went around Sailsburys left flank and charged the baggage train, but, like the French cavelry, the baggage trains guards managed to drive the italian cavelry off. Then the baggage guards hit the Scots on their right flank while Bedfords infantry (who had driven off the French infantry) turned around and hit the Scots from behind. Although the Scots...

  • @kostyel ... were surrounded on 3 sides they refused to give in but eventually most of the Scots (including Scottish nobles like Archibald, Earl of Douglas and his son James, Earl of Mar) where killed in battle.

The battle is often described as a second Agincourt but needless to say the Scots went down like hero's.

  • @kostyel more than 1000 scottish soldiers

  • Also... most of the "English" troops... should also be French.

A truth that is even lost in a number of history books.

  • @666Vredesbyrd That's a shame , you are right, but the French dont forget their Sctos friends link with "Marche des soldats de Wallace". Greats =)

  • amazing scene, favorite

  • Well, I am a protestant Christian and I do know the Holy Scirpture very well. According to the scriptures by St. Paul, first bishop of Rome. It is imperative that the Christian be able to operate in the 5 fold gifts of the Holy Spirit. God is able to speak, via the Holy Spirit in the inner conscience. Therefore it is through the anointing of God, that prophecy can be given, that words of knowledge can be known via the word from the Lord. Hence Joan D'Arc is not a heretic, but a believer.

  • I love this movie!

  • @afropaco Me too I never got why this movie had so bad review sure some roles probaly should had better actos(not Jean tough) its bit confusing xD but hell is awesome movie is one of few medieval movies that realy capture how bloddy and dark was those days not a Arthurian Fairy Tell like a lot of movies are a realy is almost grutoste view of it look at characters they all dirty thats how medieval people looked like not knigths in shiny armor xD

  • I dont know about she getting messages from God, I dont believe in that stuff, what I do know is that she knew how to give inspiring speeches, that could raise the moral of the troops, and inspire them to continue fighting.

  • I dont know about she getting messages from God, I dont believe in that stuff, what I do know is that she knew how to give inspiring speeches, that could raise the moral of the troops, and inspire them to continue fighting.

  • her acting is o.u.t.s.t.a.n.d.i.n.g. Thanks for uploading!

  • in religion, she's a saint and sent by god, believe it or not...

but the fact still remains, she raised the french armies morale and gave great inspiration, when their hope and morale is at its weakest, and her death just raised it more, and eventually the french would regain their lands and after some centuries, would become the world's great power, under loius XIV,then later under napoleon bonaparte I...

if not for her, france would'ved fallen under english rule...

  • crazy or not, she helped (or did) kicking out the ugly rosbifs out of France. Nothing else matters. Vive la France!

  • she kind of creeps me out in a way

  • what is the name of the song?

  • what is the name of the song?

  • Whats the name of the song to the end?

  • Shame she was burnt at the stake as a witch. Those damn english. Her bones were ground to dust so no holy relics could be calmed. I love the middle ages :) if only the english and french kingdoms could unite and use their power on another crusade to the east. Why fight one another for 100 yrs?

  • Is she just a saint or is she also a prophetess?

  • If you consider the "English" army, all the knights would be of French descent as well, the men-at-arms would be from Gasconny (the one of the French side were usually from Normandy becasue Normandy and Gasconny had the strongest men in France) and the archers derived from the lower class, welsh and Anglo-Saxons.

  • archers always made up at least 2/3s of the army and in all of the famous battles, agincourt, crecy, poitiers they ran out of arrows and joined the hand to hand fighting

  • interesting. I don't know much about the militaries of this time period. What should I read?

  • ok seriously people read a real history of the hundred years war this stereotypical hollywood bullshit isn't real, there are so many other factors going into play in Joan of Arc's story than god and supernatural forces, give the lady some real credit

  • Great movie on the whole. Attempt to depict the Middle Ages in medieval categories. No modernization of history.

  • Patay was like "HAY GUYZ LOOK - A STAG! OH SHYTE IT'S THE FROGGIES!" Then La Hire was like "CHAAAAAARRRGGGGGE!" N' the English didn't have time to set their longbowmen up so they all got trampled and sliced to bits. Fastolf goes "O NOES! RUNAWAYVERYFAST!" Joan's just like "LOL!...I mean...I must confess!"

  • That English commander was a bit of a pussy......I would have stormed the field and killed every living thing in sight!!!!

    Thats the true English way!

  • fuck you and your pending approval bullshit fucking weak bastard

  • back then people didnt know about psychiatric disorders/ mental illness, this girl was half crazy and half insane, enough sanity to persuade a desperate country that needed a saviour but very stupid and insane for her not to see the consequences for claiming she heard voices from god, they didnt know she had a serious mental illness and as desperate as they were as their country was being invaded by england, they were willing to accept anything, anyone, they took a chance with this poor girl

  • amazing story, yet I'm annoyed by the dramatic acting of Jovovich.

  • i want to see that battle

  • babe.........

  • Maybe the military should try this tactic more often =) ...Ok, so the battle at Patay didn't go down quite this easy, but her presence did cause many English soldiers to lose courage & flee without a fight. She reformed the French army by building up morale & driving out the prostitutes & profanity in the camp. Was she in a driven, manic state? Very likely. Was it more than just a psyche disorder? Unquestionably. (read her history & bogus court trial) Crazy or not,...this was no ordinary girl.

  • @blindedbyglitter

Its was a mc chicken sandwich in the end.

  • @blindedbyglitter I think this movie shows very nicely the different scenario's that could've happened. Noone can be sure, but this movie glorifies and vilifies her.

Up to you to decide what you like best. Noone can tell you.

  • why do people keep saying shes crazy? how can a crazy woman lead a whole army back in the days and etc etc

why can't people accept that she may have been told by God to reconquer France? which was at the time one of the most holiest catholic countries ya know..

and there is no way to know today between Holy and scientific on how the world is made.. keep your mind open. she's the savior of France if you don't like her then be it and leave us alone but otherwise show some respect

  • Hitler lead a nation too.. was he sane?.. God knows.. But was he convinced that his cause was righteous?.. yes..

  • nah she was probably psychotic

she heard voices telling her to kill the English

    thats my kind of girl

glad they made her a Saint thats my kind of Saint

  • @FRApp44300 crazyness is no obstacle - hitler, napoleon and stalin have all been successful at waging war. and i really doubt any of them could pass psychological tests to get to army or to get a driving licence

besides, if she was led by god, why did god abondon her so abruptly before she could achieve any of her goals? did god really bother to intervene for a castle and a few forts? and why won't christians pray and be happy etc, why do you have to PREACH allll the time

  • @FRApp44300 Maybe she had religion drummed into her head, when she was a kid; as most christians have had done to them ?

  • @FRApp44300 True, the fact remains the fact - she was the savior.

  • @FRApp44300

Well, when the voices that say kill people come to you, we'll see just how godly you seem.

  • @gaelwynmackwyn

The day you & other athiests are finally able to see the Demons standing behind you to tempt you to stand on a soap box & rant against God then we'll see how Godly your appear

  • @FRApp44300 because it´s a fucking stupid theory, it´s likely that she clinged to her imagination like alot of people do and especially did back then.

  • @FRApp44300 Agree totally. She was my great aunt (I'm related by one of her siblings), and I when people say she was crazy or a schitzofreniac really pisses me off. She lead the French army to victory after victory, and crazy people don't have that kind of success record. She was an intensly spiritual person, and she could have felt calling by God to lead France (which I think she did). She was only defeated because she was betrayed by the King of France.

  • @Mosh4Yesh777

Just because you're related to her it doesn't mean you know she was telling the truth? Even if you're family are the most honest people on Earth, that was generations ago. She'd have been very different.

  • @NormbrettaMod Well, I think she was. I don't think she had any reason to lie. She demonstrated many times that she was brilliant military tactitician, with no prior military training. Whatever you think of her, I don't think she was a schitzophreniac or crazy. A crazy person like that would not be able to do the things she did. I think she was telling the truth. Take it how you will, I don't really care. But, you were not there either, so maybe you are wrong.

  • @Mosh4Yesh777

How can I be wrong? I was just criticising you, wasn't making any judgement myself. But I just find it hard to believe that her "vision" wasn't false. I mean, how many others have had such visions from a different God? What about the Prophet Muhammad? He was a great war leader himself so he couldn't be crazy but his vision was concerning a totally different religion!

  • @NormbrettaMod Are you an athiest? That might be why you find it hard to believe. And if, that's the case, then we have very different world views. And as for me, it's rather easy to believe that she could have had visions from God. People are so eager to discount something supernatural, and sometimes the "natural" explanation takes more faith to believe than the other. The whole visions from a different god thing, is another matter entirely.

  • @Mosh4Yesh777

"he whole visions from a different god thing, is another matter entirely." Explain please?

And to answer your question. I'm not sure. Based on my upbringing I've always considered my self a Christian but recently, meh i don't know. I mean, I follow all the morality and that and Christ is my idol, but I find the God stuff hard to believe. Do I have the right to call my self a Christian? cont...-->

  • @NormbrettaMod Ok. Christianity teaches that the God of the Hebrews and Jesus Christ are one and the same, and no other god exists. Christians do not believe that Islam's god is the same as their's, so therefore any vision that is claimed to be from God, but says something contrary to what Jesus said is counted as a false vision that was made up, or a false prophet that recieves vision from drugs, or demons. Even people who claim to have visions in the Christian faith, have to be questioned. -->

  • @Mosh4Yesh777

...Other than Christianity, I lean towards Humanism as opposed to Atheism. If I were to abandon my religion and not believe in any deity or anything spiritual but used the NEW Testament (and Christ's' teachings) as my guide through life...what would that make me? And sorry if I come across as narrow-minded. I just really struggle to understand such things.

  • @NormbrettaMod Hmmm...if you followed just the morals of Jesusan nothing else, I guess you'd be a secular christian. I don't see you as small-minded in the least. You seek truth, and so you search. If you seek, you will find. :)

This might help you tho.Christians believe God can speak through anything. This includes others' actions, nature, and everyday circumstance. I've found my prayers answered in such ways when asking for guidance. So a "vision" she had might have been something like that.

  • @NormbrettaMod So as far as I can tell, you are a humanist, but you follow Jesus' teachings as your guid. True Christians accept that Jesus is God incarnateand that He alone is the redemption of all mankind. I don't see you as narrow-minded at all, dude. You're searching, for truth. Seek, and u will find. :)

This might help you though. A vision doesn't always have to be a dream or trance as we se in movies and stuff like that....----> Continued

  • @Mosh4Yesh777 A vision can be a simple answer to a prayer. But, God doesn't have to speek audibly (very rare). He can answer thru actions of others, thru nature, or just an everyday circumstance. I've prayed and asked, for guidance, and many times I found my answer in the least likely places. So in the case of Joan, she could have just been seeking answers to prayers and felt led to do what she did. Who knows? Maybe the church embellished a bit when they canonized her as a saint. ;)

  • @NormbrettaMod It would make you a follower of Christ by works rather than faith. According to traditional Christianity, the purpose of precepts in the Bible is only to show us how miserable and incompetent we are to follow them. It is God's perfection, which we can never achieve. Christianity is different from all othe religions in that it doesn't require seekers to earn their salvation. It is a supernatural act alone. The law can only be written inside -- not followed on our own.

  • @FRApp44300

I'm French and Joan of arc is a heroin for us... but told by God??? Be serious...

  • @FRApp44300 People say she was crazy because there was a European movie that portrayed her that way. It's a product of Post-modernism, which just can't stand to have a hero. They must deconstruct her somehow without evidence, and declare all the great things said about her over the generations, despite ample evidence, as simply myth. You're right, a delusional woman couldn't have attained the successes she did, and then answer so intelligently during trial. She's the real thing.

  • @FRApp44300 dude or maybe she used god as an excuse who knows whole point is she was one hell of a woman god or not in she must have had massive charisma in been a quick wit to convince so many men to follow hr

  • @FRApp44300 You're absolutely right. Regardless of whether she was making miracles or not, it's no mean feat for a teenage girl to lead armies. And I do doubt that in the age of inquisition one would have let a crazy person lead the army, especially of the state on the defensive :D

  • Whats up with the title? She didn't rout them the English left on their own accord. Exleast in this movie.

  • The english of the time werent at all scared of the french army or men, They had beaten them time and time again, And until Joan showed up believed God was on their side,

Joan literally scared the utter shit out of them when she showed a possibility of being gods messenger

  • one detail, she was not scared or crying, she knew God was with her, and she knew her power

  • ...really? You think that God's interaction with anyone entails bestowing PCP-like invincibility on them?
