I saw a movie about Bach´s live ....... in the scene when the painter took this portrait he said "oh god - you paint me so ugly that it looks like me ........ and sitting so long. The painter must have been gone with him to the church and listen hours of playing Bach on the organ ............. I wish I was the painter in that private concert ............
Why are such records made available for free on-line ? I have been listening to BWV 1046 - BWV 1051 for 18 years and I think the here displayed performances by Mr Stryncl are better than the ones of The English Concerto under direction of Trevor Pinnock. Feel free to discuss, I assume my opinion.
@1y In my opinion Trevor Pinnock has tried to "monopolize" period performance - just go on wikipedia and look at all his recordings. Among other things, I believe he has recorded Mozart's complete works on period instruments. To me, this is deplorable, revolting, and disgusting, and it is no wonder that his recordings are... well... sickening. He thinks that just because Baroque people wore wigs their music is supposed to sound square. Sure they wore wigs, but how often did they shower?
@NoahSV They bathed quite regularly, and it was common to brush ones teeth everyday. In fact, the tooth brush was invented in 1750, while soap had been commonly used since the Crusades. I don't know how people ever imagined that in such a time in which beauty and style were exemplified people somehow neglected hygiene. Myths are strange things.
@Romeowasbleeding1 But you understand what the man was trying to get across though? Fine they had good hygiene but that still doesn't mean their music was meant to sound like a production line.
@johnsmith21197 There is nothing dense with exploding incorrect and prevalent myths. I never said that their music was supposed to sound like a production line now did I? One can't possible even infer that from what I wrote.
@1y Of course they are better than The English Concerto with that detestable Trevor Pinnock. Every recording is better than the ones that ass puts out. It is indeed a mystery why him and that other ass, Sir Neville Marriner, get the most attention. Perhaps it is because of snobby critics who critique their works as being the most "proper" or most "professional". The simple fact is that both of the aforementioned asses may as well be secretaries than harpsichordist/directors.
@PhilosophicalViking uuummmm..... well duh. Isn't that what all composers try to do? In case you didn't know, music is - sometimes, just as even painting and sculpture sometimes are - an art. Guess what!! Writing is an art too! Sure Bach is the greatest composer ever to live along with Beethoven (who is perhaps the greatest artist of any medium as well), but that doesn't mean that something composed by Brahms or Mahler isn't art too. I can see why you call yourself a philosophical viking.
The ultimate classic composer... every possible musical style is included here... (From 08:10 until 09:10 he even does shredding!!! Maybe the first shredding ever...)
@astrogirl1231 That's what made this particular concerto so outstanding in it's time. It was the FIRST time that a harpsichord solo had EVER been featured! Up until then, it was relegated to background music, known as the continuo.
Not only was Bach a wonderful composer, he was a prodigious player of the harpsichord among other instruments. Back in the day it was him tearing up that harpsichord solo.
the harpsicord solo is increadible! I ve listened it almost 50 timnes but never seems to amaze. Also the violin-flute duet is beyond anything. This is a supreme piece, just like Brandenburg no.2 1st mov. , ahead of all other music.
I don't know about you guys, but Bach and I were real homies back in the day.

J S Bach was a great protestant who was hated by the pagan romanist scum.

This perhaps stands on more or less equal ground with the Glenn Gould recording, although I love Baroque music on modern instruments.

When Bach was composing, he was actually creating an auditory piece of art.

@Liisa26 This was written in 1719 and there are harpsichord solos dating back to the 1500's that william byrd wrote.
