I've it on PS3 too and I'm quite pleased. Console doesn't do much in terms of improving your image quality (and let's face it, what CAN it do, even with games that don't use pre-rendered image graphics) but the smoothing is really noticeable.

Digital copy's way better than downloading the old PC version (which sucks) or playing the PSX game on an emulator.

Wish sony had experimented with digital copies of old games and managed to nix the need for "virtual memory cards" and stuff though.

@TheSuperSaturos If you look closely at the first ten seconds of the movie, you'll notice that the icon that's highlighted says "Playstation Format Disc". Just because it's being played on the PS3 doesn't mean that the graphics are going to improve; it's still the same PSX game.

@TheSuperSaturos I playing Final Fantasy IX on my PS3 right now. The fact is, while you can't play PS2 games (at least, not without going onto the Playstation Network on your PS3 and downloading the driver that allows you to play PS2 games on your PS3), you have always been able to play PSX games on the PS3 (or at least certain ones). I've played both FFVII and FFIX on my PS3, so FFVIII shouldn't be any different.

@TheSuperSaturos Yeah, Sony didn't exactly broadcast this for everybody to know. Can't imagine why, though. I mean, I was pretty ticked when I found out they didn't have PS2 capabilities built into the system, but if they had let us know about this, I wouldn't have minded having to download the driver if it was free. But, yeah, just log into your Playstation Network account and look around in the "P" Title section. It's only about 6MB.

essentially yes but if you look close enough you can see that the graphics are just a tad bit updated. not a huge amount and the player is most likely using the analog stick to move around, on the psone it was very shaky and squall would have choppy movements with the stick but in this version its a little refined with more fluid movement

If i put in my first disc and play the game, it freezes in the moviepart where squall goes on top of the boat. I got so dissapointed that i diddnt look ad my ps3 voor 1 week. In my opinion FF7 is better. You should play it first at any rate. FF8 has a lot to offer to. A very interesting story line and very different combat system. The story isn't too bad either. All in all they're both great games.

If you look closely at the start of the video you can see he didn't use a downloaded version. He's just using the original Playstation one disc. Unfortunately its still not available for download in the US. VII is but it's no different than the original so I assume VIII will be no different.

I have the platinum version which 'works' on the PAL 60GB however once you get to disk 4 it won't loadwhen loading from the disk change screen the 'wrong disk, insert disk 4' message shows constantly and when loading the disk on its own you get the PS logo and then nothing. so I am very much looking forward to the PSN version especially since I lost my 60GB to YLOD now I have a slim.

What version of Ff8 you have and what version of PS3? I have a 60GB ps2 compatible PAL console and a SLES-02080 version of Ff8 and not working... :( I just spent £16.5 on this on eBay :(

ah see i have that one on platinum disk an it works fine but the ff8 is the original an does not work maybe only the final fantasys on platinum will only work on ps3 ff7 an ff9 are on platinum an they work fine for me.
