@XxDahamonnahxX some stems are made of materials that react to oxygen, it discolors and makes stem taste bitter, clean pipes to prevent it, or even better, get acryllic stems
I just bought my first pipe. I feel i'm pretty much on top of things but I need some advice.
That pipe cleaner multi-tool you have is pretty much impossible for me to get a hold of without it costing a farm in shipping, because i live on a tiny remote island in the middle of the Atlantic. (the Faroe Islands).
Do you have any suggestions as to what i can use to scrape the inside of the bowl with instead of the tool?
Hey there PipeFriend I was wondering if you could help. I just bought a new Parker and the stem/mouthpiece had a funny taste. I wet my finger and rubbed the stem a little and it's changed colour to a really light green that I can't polish out. Do you have any idea what might be going on? Many thanks in advance!
Loving the music... Sasha was one of our great club DJ's in the UK scene; many moons ago.
I'm on my first week of pipe smoking, and really enjoying it, could you recommend an easy non-armomatic smoke for daytime use, I would prefere to keep the aromatics for the eveing and savoir them.
Check out Jakatta for some smoking music. 'Feeling Blue' is a good start.
okay probably a dumb question but i am a begginner smoker. i took out the mouthpiece of the pipe to clean and theres a white pplastic tube thing thats about 4 inches long. what is it?
@noteykyle It's a pipe filter. Cheaper pipes have those. I have 3 pipes with filters. The filter should be replaced periodically. I am not sure how often though. I generally change the filter when it looks like it needs changing. You can find pipe filters at most places that sell filter pipes. Drug stores like walgreens and rite aid carry them.
bang on ,i like the leave a pipe cleaner in there tip,it saves my maple filters .some guy was sugesting alcohol ,that would dry the wood right?.whats your opinion on honey mud to protect the chamber
how tight should you bite on the bit? Mine sounded a crack when I bit over it, is that broken? mine is a meerschaum missouri legend pipe, plasitc brown bit, please advise
@PipeFriendCHS I was just going to ask if you used filters I bought new filters but like it better without them is it bad for the pipe if you dont use the filter
Hey this might be a stupid question but I just started smoking a pipe. I was wondering if you could run some water through your pipe as well? I just have a really cheap pipe and I didn't have any pipe cleaners on hand.
@wammybar4ever There are so many different flavors, you should go to a tobacconist or somewhere similar and smell the different tobaccos, your sense of smell should give you a good idea of what you'd want to try.
i've just got my first pipe and i just had my first experience of cleaning it.
i baisically used a small brush that could fit down the stem and also clean the bowl. I did however clean out the bowl without realising that it may make it better to leave sediment in. Would i have damaged my pipe at all? is it possible to damage the pipe or the smoking pleasure of a pipe by cleaning methods?
@PipeFriendCHS I'm also looking for a nice aromatic tobacco, can you give me an advice with the choice? may be some brands or a particular brand/aroma? thanks in advance from Bulgaria :0
My mouthpiece tastes like a tar. I clean it with an alcohol, but it does´t help. What am I doing wrong? Shall I try another tobacco? I smoke Stanwell Melange tobacco... THX for help
use salt too, its very helpful and it really helps, just a pointer, if it can remove all signs of pot from a pipe im sure it can do the same for tobaco =]
i have an "author" shape pipe, and the pipe cleaner can pass trought the draft hole to the lip, cannot clean well that part and tastes awfull sometimes, it have a lot of "mud", what to do?
Marc, i'm trying to restore my grandfathers old pipe that my father passed down to me. Is it okay to take the bit and wash it in some mildly soapy water? and would leave any flavor difference?
I've got a bit of a question here. I smoked my first bowl with my brand spanking new pipe and after I'd let it cool down and all that jazz, I removed the parts carefully from eachother. I noticed there was this metallic thing inside the bowl part. It's got this groove in it and a ball in the end and I'm just wondering that the hell this is. Any ideas?
It's this separate piece of metal about half an inch in length. Came out of the bowl pretty easily. From what it looks like, it isn't really connected to the rest of the pipe in any way. It looks like it might be there to control the airflow or something?
Unfortunately I don't own any cameras(greetings from the 19th century...), but the pipe's a Savinelli Capitol 104, if that's any help. I've tried to look up some info on the mysterious piece, but it doesn't seem to be anything worth writing about on the internet. Strange.
@BALJIT147 Don't smoke weed. That's a simple solution. Enjoy life, the amazing sensations of enjoying tobacco from a pipe. You don't need drugs to live to the fullest.
Of course it is. But people use it everyday. No one MAKES you use it, you do for your own reasons, which is the same with pot (I've never even smoked pot before), so why tell someone over the internet to not smoke pot when it's their body and their personal choice?
BTW, I really like you videos pipefriend. I'm thinking about buying the pipe you're using when I turn 18 next month!
I just fell out of my chair at "when I turn 18". I usually don't do this, but talk to me when you grow up.
As for the start of your statement, no one makes you use tobacco either. No one makes you do anything. What's your point? I never said that he was not allowed to do. It's his personal choice to make a bad choice. Marijuana doesn't even get you high, if you're going to break the law, go do some coke. It doesn't taste good, either. Smoke tobacco, enjoy the good flavors.
@scamperthepenguin That law is only active in a very few states of the united states. Not everywhere. Just thought I'd let you know. I believe it's just California and Indiana that have that law.
i have been using Q-tips to clean my pipe, but noticed strands of cotton are getting left in. i cant use any other cleaners cuz holes are too small. would cotton change the flavor? any suggs?
I just got a cheap pipe and smokied it for the first time today now when i was done smoking it i removed the stem to take a look at the filter and the there was a red liquid kind of like cranberry juice on the stem and filter and the pipe is coated with that color could that be from the paint they used on the pipe running off from my saliva and my other queston is when do u change the filter
Was there a redness on your hands too? If so, it is definitely the paint. Might want to wet your finger and rub the pipe to see if it stains. Not sure about the filter: I never smoke filtered

so when you say to let the pipe rest before you smoke it again, does that mean not to smoke more than one bowl out of it at a time? like not smoking back to back bowls? or just after your done smoking the amount you want?
Thanks for the advice. I figured out what it was. It has been really humid up here in Rhode Island lately and the wood was expanding due to the humidity. Needless to say I put my air conditioners on in my house.
Hi. I love all of your videos but I have a question regarding this topic. When I go to clean my pipe I am having a hard time removing the stem almost like it is getting stuck. I hold the bowl and rotate counter clockwise to remove the stem but it does not want to budge. I am afraid to break the stem or due worse damage to the pipe. Any Suggestions?
I saw a video that the guy gently cleans the inside of the pipe with a knife. But I saw a video of your where you talk about building carbon in the pipe. So is the knife a good idea? Perhaps I didnt understood what was meant by building carbon in the pipe.Thank for the previous (quick) reply.

Thanks,
Billy

Please make sure the pipe has fully cooled off before you try to remove the stem as heat makes the fit tighter

So you are supposed to clean it after each use? Thanks

Well you want to let it dry out. Truth be told, I usually clean BEFORE each use

Knife might be a bad idea, there are pipe reamers that are made for pipe cleaning that are better

"You're not supposed to leave a pipe sitting around with ashes in it, which I do all the time." I LOLed. I do it, too.
