I got a fever now. It spreads like daylight. A few melodies like that can mess with emotions back to old memories, i am a child again, i wanna runaway, and makes me see a different bright.
I love The Gathering and Slowdive, but The Gathering's cover of this song can't compete. They're still a great band though! No reason to shit on one band because their cover sucks!
@KayPeepers Because a lot of the time I'm not feeling dreamy or introspective but angry and angst-ridden. And I don't think Slowdive covers the latter very well.
i hate these stupid labels if you notice every shoegaze band sounds different you cant compare slowdive to mbv and then compare them to a band like swervedriver but yet these bands still go under the same same genre i prefer the term musicinstead of labeling

If you had those 4 bands in a list, and you had to put 2 together, it would always be Slowdive and MBV, if there were no other influences except for the music.

@okendido MTV Europe in the UK used to be great. You'd get quite eclectic videos during the day alongside the playlist but the charts were more varied and interesting then so the quality was better. You also had all the specialist shows like 120 minutes (alternative/experimental/indie), Partyzone (rave and dance), Headbangers Ball (Metal/punk) and magazine programs like Most Wanted (live performances/interviews/videos)..Actually thinking about it, it was amazing.
people dont understand the word shoegaze. . . shoegazing is what you do when your playing guitar and stepping on the pedals for all the different effects and you were always stairing down at your shoes because of this. Shoegaze was origionally called dreampop the genre was started by the cocteau twins so shoegaze is what you do dreampop is what you are listening to.
yeah i remember seeing slowdive live in Norwich, they hit a climax in one song it was all dry ice and blue lights, I was totally lost in it , bliss out I loved it ....

I'm always amazed that South Americans are into bands like this and The Smiths. I think we (Americans) are taught to believe that South Americans cultures are directed inwards, that they value indigenous culture more than the WASP culture which the world media shoves down their throats.
It affects you phisiologically better than many other drugs and without the bad side affects (*besides listening to it too loud, thats ok tho*)
Also, avalyn, if you have never done a drug in your life don't bother. It's really completely not worth it. Yes there are legitimate uses for them (in religious contexts for many of them), but the recreational use exhibited by most people is extremely unindicative of the "true uses" of these drugs

I'm always amazed that South Americans are into bands like this and The Smiths. I think we (Americans) are taught to believe that South Americans cultures are directed inwards, that they value indigenous culture more than the WASP culture which the world media shoves down their throats.

I think music is better than any drug.
It affects you phisiologically better than many other drugs and without the bad side affects (*besides listening to it too loud, thats ok tho*)
Also, avalyn, if you have never done a drug in your life don't bother. It's really completely not worth it. Yes there are legitimate uses for them (in religious contexts for many of them), but the recreational use exhibited by most people is extremely unindicative of the "true uses" of these drugs

I find if (especially when its been awhile) I listen 2 almost N E slowdive song (sober or not) I am taken 2 another place where we're all 1 and we all understand each others needs psychically & that anything is possible and that all is not neccesarily love but that it's so real.....its ecstacy.
I know of no drug that consistent or wonderful. In truth, much of the worlds problems are solvable w/musick & sound. but I ramble...

@kicksex If your profile is truthful you are around 10 years too young to know what the atmosphere of this time was like. A bit like how it takes mainstream radio 10 years to know what music people are listening to and so then they start using that style, of course by then the "cool kids" with their finga on the pulse move on. Everyone I knew was dropping acid and smashed at this time, sad but true, it was "cool" to be F'kd up! just look at shaun and bez (btw they were my role-models lol, true!)

I think that this music should give you a "high". Like an 'out of body' high. Not like a high off a drug.
