@ScopedPewPew some of the gas pushes the round out and the remaining pressure comes out of the back of the weapon and these two forces neutralize each other therefore the weapon doesnt have any recoil just like an rpg or a bazooka

SPG9 73mm, PG9 penetrates 330mm with 5 times the accuracy and range of a RPG, improved warheads still 73mm can pierce around 450mm.

not that i woud ever be officialy a sniper rifle, but make it having an totaly other shell, a bit more like a 20mm instead of a rocket or mortar, it woud have probably less power, but more range

@Whatdatis1 Assuming you're not referencing anything (and please ignore this if you are), explosives are categorized into "low" and "high". Low explosives just burn, they require being encased in something to cause an actual explosion. Gunpowder, for example, is a low explosive. High explosives, however, don't need to be encased to cause potentially deadly pressure waves and shrapnel. :)

@mjdietle Rocket launchers launch rockets - I.E, projectiles that shoot flames out of the back to keep flying. The RPG-7 is a rocket launcher, for example, as is the WW2-era M1 and M9 Bazooka.

Recoilless rifles fire oversized bullets, more or less. The projectiles aren't rocket propelled, they use only the pressure caused by combustion in the gun itself. Think of a recoilless as basically an artillery cannon on your shoulder.

@mjdietle Yeah, the SPG is a weird design. It uses the same ammo as the RPG, except instead of the fuel in the back being used as a rocket like it is in the RPG, it's all combusted inside the gun.

On the plus side, this means that the SPG-9 and RPG-7 can share ammo, simplifying logistics greatly.

The SPG-9 is pretty special, as it uses a Recoilless Rifle function to launch it's projectile, which is then rocket-propelled ib flight.

One other little-known fact about this weapon, is that the Soviet 73mm low-pressure guns (used on the BMP-1, BMD-1, BMR, etc.) fire the EXACT SAME AMMO from a closed breech.

Vehicles armed with this gun could dismount troops with an SPG-9, and fire the vehicle's ammo from it --- or, a vehicle with said gun could take-on ammo from other units using SPG-9s.

That's true, but the SPG-9 fires projectiles with a LOT of force before the rocket motors kick-in.

Most infantry-fired rockets use that same principal, as well. It's simply just a recoil-less rocket.

They're not completely compatible, actually, not the same ammo. The 2A28 fires a similar 73mm round, using the same projectiles, but has a smaller propellant charge.
