  • Hmm... I only saw Mirage Dive.(twice)

  • @Rhapthorne3 now it is 'nd im playing it :D

  • I've played and beaten final fantasy 6 at least 10 times, and I've never once came across a desperation attack haha.

  • @ZeroSilence91 same here bro!

  • @KevinPaul06 I think we are just too good to have our health be that low xD

  • I saw Celes' limit when I was a kid in middle school... I had no idea what it was when it happened, how to reproduce it, and what the hell happened... I hadn't seen it again till I saw this video some 10-15?+ years later... Crazy stuff.

  • I've only seen Setzer's Red Card while fighting the Goddess. It was amazing when I saw it, not to mention finishing her. I was looking forward to Shadow's desperation attack, though.

  • Ah, limit breaks before people even knew about limit breaks.

    The good ol days

  • I remember the first time I found these, it was in WoR and Sabin did his and I couldn't figure out what the hell happened.

  • Dude, this shit was goosebump material when I was in grade school.

Your friends that you were talking shit when you tried to tell them about these things.

  • I played through this game three times and never seen any of those I must be unlucky

  • does this work at all levels?

  • I only done mogs before...

  • very cool... I've always wanted to see these, the only one I've seen is Locke's.

  • I miss playing the original FF on NES. I had it on an emulator on my last computer but sadly it quit working=(

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, hang on...you missed Gau and Umaro

  • @ZorotheGallade

they dont have one due to their lack of an attack command

  • @smashmaniac64 Whoops, right.

  • @ZorotheGallade

They don't have any due to their irregular attack styles.

  • @zingodoom Yeah, Umaro can't be controlled and Gau has Rage instead of Fight.I thought Limit triggered when performing any standard physical attack, but they do when selecting (or for Gogo, Mimicking) the Fight command instead...

    (Wiki)

  • I love this old videos.

  • this video took no skill to make.

  • Gogo: "Haha, bitch!"

  • Huh. Seems Gogo's Limit is a reference to his FF V appearance.

  • Thanks for making this, I've always wanted to see them all. I've played through this many times and have only seen 3 of these attacks.

  • ZOMFG, i remember once, all my party got almost wiped out by this electric boss whelk inside a chest after fighting it for like half hour (i dont remember what part of the game it was.) i only had Setzer left with 1 HP, so i was like "FK this shet! Its over!" and i just pressed FIGHT then BAM "Red Card" 9999 dmg! The boss died at that critical moment.

    I was like "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFKKK YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!"

  • @LorenStevens Ohhh! I like that ;)

  • i played this game way too many times, and i only saw one about 14 years ago it was when you first fight kefka with the different teams i think and all my characters died locke got down to nothing and he raged out all over kefka i flipped out and thought i hallucinated or dreamed the whole thing, trying over and over to find it again.. looked it up on the internet and here it is. thank you jesus, i'm not crazy!! XD

  • dude where GAU?

  • @colombiandrkid Gau doesn't have one. Neither does Umaro.

  • The game that deserves a remake the most is the one often overlooked. C'mon Square, ditch ff14 and put all the money from that into an FF6 remake. Good thing this is most likely coming to the PSN in the near future though.

  • @Rhapthorne3 no...it will not because nintendo owns half rights...the only way is a remake like ff4 on psp or something because it is on wii vc

  • @lockhart1433 I don't understand...if nintendo has partial rights over it, then how come FF6 was also released for the PSone. Also wasn't FF1 and 2 originally on Nintendo's console and they eventually remade it onto the PSP

  • @Rhapthorne3 same with ff4 but they were REMADE and yes it was released on ps1 but didn't sell well so they rely on remakes and ff6 will be made after ff5 seeing as they skipped 3 because of how unpopular it is

  • @Rhapthorne3 square gave them rights to 1-6 after the ps1 releases failed due to ff7 so the game has to be remade using a different engine and they use the ff1 psp engine the proof is...IF you look closely...ff4 complete collection's characters have the exact same sprite with different clothing and features...even cecil looks like a fighter from ff1 psp with silver hair and armor...

  • @Rhapthorne3 I don't know if it's there yet but they did put FFV on there. They do have FFVI on the Virtual Console on the Wii now though.

  • @Rhapthorne3

We don't need another FF6 remake or "enhancement". The game's been released quite a few times. SNES / PS1 / GBA with crappy additions / Wii... Why don't they just make a quality *new* game? The only games that are really in need of remakes are the NES games. Like Earthbound 1, FF3 (The DS one is awful), Sweet Home, et al. Certainly one a late-age SNES game.

  • @iiiiiifggffggffgfgfg wait when has ff6 gotten a remake? Remake is not the same as an enhancement. I said that comment because people were wanting a next gen remake of ff7 after seeing the tech demo by sony for the ps3 a long time ago, and I thought that ff6 deserved a ps3/360 remake a lot more, not just an "enhancement"

  • @Rhapthorne3 I don't want square to screw up a nice game like this one with a crappy remake.

  • @Dengakuman22 agreed, but as long as they keep the core of the game the same and just adding a bit extra to it, I think they can pull it off. FF4 (DS) is a good example of an excellent remake.

  • @Rhapthorne3 Funny how they are reissuing FFX in HD format, work on a sequel to their mmo, yet ignore fan requests for HD remakes of games such as FFVI, FFVII, and Chrono Cross as well. C'mon Square, get your priorities straight! The fans have spoken.

  • @Rhapthorne3 Not likely soon. and I rather have a remake. Just to enjoy the 3D view.

  • @Rhapthorne3 already there just got it and put it on my psp now i can play it anywhere.

  • My first desperation attack funnily enough was when i made Edgar fight in the Coliseum against Siegfried in the World of Ruin. I was about to lose (i think?) cause i severely underestimated him (he was weak in previous encounters) then Edgar used his limit break and the Siegfried died :D :D:D

  • wwwow this looks old lolol.. playing FF13 at the moment XD

  • @laurence265 Having fun with your linearity or shallow characters? Age means nothing in terms of value.

  • I remember how people thought these were hoaxes et.c. even though (at least in the EU version) there is at least ONE NPC IN THE GAME TELLING YOU INFORMATION OF SUCH OUTRIGHT. This is a few moments before your first fight with Ultros.

  • I remember the only time i ever had a character use their desperation attack was sabin when you were on the mine cart after the factory. when you fight the boss i lost both edgar and locke. i thought i was going to have to start the whole thing over again and suddenly sabin does some really strong attack that i had no idea existed. was never able to get anyone to do one again.

  • one thing... ff7 had (you have to admit it) REALLY bad graphics for the cutscenes... but it had 3d gameplay...(kind of anyway)

but ff6 had AMAZING cutscenes (at the time anyway) and it had cartoon graphic thingies for gameplay...

    damn you square?!

  • @pinovids, @BishounenNerd,

Neither Umaro nor Gau have the Desperation Attacks, most likely because neither of them have access to the 'Fight' command.

  • @Frohergeist That's a good point. I haven't played the game in a good while so I had forgotten about that. Now I remember though, Gau uses "rages" he learned from the Veldt, and Umaro plays like an FFV Berserker.

  • if i may ask if you have umaro with low hitpoints do fight with auto attack does he does some supa attack too?

  • Terra just defeated Cancer.

  • I've seen Celes' limit break a loooong time ago. I didn't see it coming, but I knew how it happened. That's when I realized the Limit Breaks were older than most people think. Also, never seen Riot Blade in the original so I didn't get the reference in Dissidia until I saw this video. Thanks for taking the time to post this! But one question... Doesn't Umaro have one?

  • I have no idea how many times I played through the game and I only ever saw one Desperation attack. I love that about VI. Starting with VII was the over reliance on Limits.

  • how do you get these desperation attacks i mean ive heard of them but never knew how to get them

  • @superherox7 You get desperation attacks by being at critical hp levels and using the normal fight ability. It has a low chance of happening.

  • Lol, gogo uses meteors, lol.

it is case to make a bad pun and say: GO GO GOGO GO!

  • @SacredDragoon GO METEOR GO! LOL

  • If I remember correctly you have to be near fatal to pull off limits (including in the snes version) but in ff6 I think they're called mantras instead of limit breaks, I'm pretty sure. They just programmed the mantras at a really low chance rate, it's pretty rare. At least now we know where the limit breaks started: ff6.

  • I only ever saw Mirage Dive when I was grinding each time I have Terra until she learns a new spell each time we go to a new area, and Locke was Level 17?(when new party members join in an FF game, they're always higher level than any1 in your current party if you did any grinding) so, I decided to cheat some experience off a Heavy Armor in Locke's scenario in South Figaro. It used Metal Knuckles and I said "Shit. I better not steal I should just straight up atta-- OH MY GOD LOCKE UR COOL!!!!!!"

  • Yea, a lot of people praise VII for the beginning of the Limit Break system but it was actually VI that laid the ground work for it. VI set up a lot of things that VII and later renditions got the credit for. Like having a villain that would kick Sephiorth and most other bosses asses for that matter. Who care's if Kefka was just a mad Clown who had one too many experiments done on him, least he wasn't a mama's boy(Sephy) or a cross dresser with an identity crisis(Kuja).

  • when i played this game, there were random moments when they would do some wacky moves and i never realized that was their desperation move. i just assumed its some glitch or perhaps i equipped them with something....

  • i guess umaro dont got one lol

  • @reeeeeeeb no, neither does Gau

  • I used one of these against tunnel armor with only locke left and like 10 HP. 9999 damage is very useful when your like lvl 10.

  • I've only gotten one desperation attack ever, I forget whose it was, I think Sabin's. I didn't know Umaro and Gau don't have them, though I guess that makes sense, since they don't have a fight command.

  • I never have my health low enough to use this. Let alone have the patience to hope for it. So thank you for showing us all.

  • I have played this game multiple times over at least 10 years, and I never had anyone use a desperation attack, EVER :D

  • @SwedishBass there only 1/16 chance you can use it

  • Where's Umaro???!

  • @scaIpeI Umaro being a berserker who does nothing but attack, he's not programed with a depseration attack.

  • @hanshotfirst1138 u can relic umaro to blizzard orb, but its been years and i cant recall the relic's name or where to find it

  • a moogle killing a giant gigas...pretty hardcore

  • huh.... that makes no.7 the 1st 3d FF

  • I've gotten Locke to perform his before, but it definitely threw me for a loop because I'd never heard of it. Thanks for showing us what all of the hidden limit breaks look like! Some are actually kind of cool.

  • my favourite video game of all time, this is it.

  • mog?..is it appear in ff9 ?? =D

  • ive actually seen this numerous time, but only terra's, she seemed to do it the most. second in line has to be sabin. but damn those things came in handy.

  • Only one I've seen was shadow's fang

  • I saw my first desperation my second time through, it was locke's mirage dive, one of those WTFudge moments.

I've played the game through 25+ times, I've only seen half of them first hand...

  • tiger break, only desperation attack i've ever seen during my playthroughs. and that was in turbo speed.

  • I've played the entire game twice and have only seen the desperation attacks maybe 2 or 3 times. How did you manage to get them all on video?

  • umaro's desperation attack is everytime he attacks the enemy. berserkers are great unless they get confused and beat up everyone else X(

  • I saw Moogle Rush tons of times as a kid and never knew what the hell was going on.

  • Setzers skill is called red card, and he throws white cards ...

  • ha ha the Sprinter got a Red Card ^. .^

  • i only know terra's riot blade in dissidia

  • I remember once I was playing this game (as Final Fantasy III) on the SNES, when fighting Atma Weapon on the floating island, things were going bad for me, and suddenly Cyan unleashed his Desperation attack for a whopping 9999 , killing Atma weapon. I just ended up with a WTF look on my face, but I was glad Atma didn't kill my party. It was then that I discovered Desperation attacks onf FFVI. Those were the days.

  • Does Locke have an alternate desperation attack? I didn't even know they were in the game until he did one but I swear it was differnet, like he threw something at them or something. I suppose it's possible my memory is off, because it was quite some time ago.

  • @Cravdraa I don't know if anyone answered you yet. But perhaps what you saw wasn't Locke's Desperation Attack, but his alternate attack with the Tomahawk and/or Sniper (names used in the original US release), where sometime he would throw the weapon at the opponent for massive damage!

  • Best thing ever was I had genji glove and offering on Setzer and he busted out red card, I lost track of the number of times he attacked. Think it was 12, old SNES system. I was like "WTH is a Red Car-OMG!"

  • ha these attacks saved my ass on a number of occasions

    nice vid

  • wooow¡¡¡¡¡ gogo has a desperation attack?? that's crazy =O the only desperation attacks i used were the shadow fang, the royal shock and the tsubame gaeshi when i saw cyan use it i got really excited

  • i never get to see these but i don't really like battling with low hp

  • never did use desperation the Edgar :)

  • lol i remeber the first time i did one of these, i was like WTF!?!?

  • @0Grand0Masta0Ramen0 my jaws dropped and my eyeballs almost popped outta my head when i first did one hahaha; nubcakes xD

  • Thanks for posting this! I had fond memories of playing this game when I was a kid; one of the best FF games ever!

  • I remember getting Sabin's desperation attack out of nowhere. My cousin and I were mashing the button to attack to train, and when it happened all we saw was the damage. We shat ourselves LOL

  • I've only seen Mogs move everyone elses is new new to me thanks for posting

  • Umaro doesn't have one? sad i liked that character... he was kind of worthless but i still liked him.

  • @rns13 Neither does Gau. Gogo doesn't either, under certain conditions. It requires the Fight/Attack command.

  • @odinfromcentr2

i wonder if Gogo can mimic a desperation attack or if he will just do a regular attack.

i will have to give it a try since after seeing this i decided to replay FF6

  • @rns13 Probably not, but then, I've never tried it.

  • Aero hits potentially your whole party and always drops the char's life down to critical range. Then u just fly to where the monsters are really weak. You can get life down however you like, I just like this cuz this is when u firstRly have control over (almost) all of ur party & can go newhere.

Also note there's in 1 in 16 chance of doing a desperation attack, but as I mentioned before first battle time has to exceed 25.6 seconds. This info is at gamefaqs Algorithm Guide under the SNES version.

  • READ THE FOLLOWING if you want to know how to do these: There is a battle timer coded into the game and any time in the first 25.6 seconds of battle a desperation attack cannot be performed -- so if you're killing the monsters really fast then that's probably why you can never get these to work no matter how many times you try. In the World of Balance one reliable way to set up for this is to let the red flying monsters around Vector cast Aero on you, then go to forest outside Narshe to do them.

  • Awesome, I played so many battles near death because I wanted to see these attacks, but never got all of them. And I remember the first time one happened, Shadow's desperation attack, I just about shat myself because I did NOT know that was possible.

  • I honestly think this is how Final Fantasy limit break attacks should be like. And yet this is another reason why IV>VI>All the other Final Fantasy's (What, I love IV).

  • Very nice.!

  • My god there is so much about this game i dont know, and i got to the big things you fight between the warring triad and Kefka. Most of my characters are at level 37ish...

  • Thanks for posting this!

I cleared the game 8 times (or maybe even more often than that), doing every kind of challenge except low level and I've only seen a desperation once: Red Card.

  • simply awesome! so wait did Umaru have a desperation attack?

  • no. Neither does Gau doe to a lack of the fight command. Gogo can be set up with that command, that's why he has one.

anyone noticed that Mog's desperation looks IDENTICAL to raging fist?

  • No. He cannot attack normally.

  • The Desperation attacks, I remember them, at the beginning of the game there awesome, but later in the game they become really crappy since the battle damage caps at 9999, this makes the desperation attacks incredibly useless late in game, when alot of attacks late in game does 9999 and its multiple hits too.

  • It may be true if you're one of those players who opted to cap out the level before you're even halfway through the storyline. For those of us who didn't, these Desperation Moves were often a life saver in dire situations.

  • I remember these, and I remembered fighting against the drill boss in Locke's scenario he did his limit, and did about 5000 damage (at a mere lv13!)

My mental reaction: "JESUS F'N CHRIST!"

  • it's beautiful when that happens

  • @ReiKusanagi This is one of the reasons I wish the old Final Fantasy games didn't have a damage limit of 9,999. Imagine the insane amounts of damage a guy could do if that limit had been lifted. But more importantly, would they have been able to?

  • wow didn't know that VI had limits. thanks for the info and great vid!

  • @Smarty4789 don't count on it... Sometimes when you're on yellow health and you choose attack, there's a 5% chance of it being a desperation attack. I think they should be more powerful though, more like in FFVIII...

  • It Should Be In PS2 In Advance Version But With Better Opening/Ending Quality!

  • Or rather on the Wii where it should be.

  • Yes, I still want it on wii virtual counsel. ;_;

  • Wow... in the 2 or 3 times I've played through VI, I've only seen 1 desperation attack, Spinning Edge. I remember it killed a boss that was about ready to murder me.

  • so thats wat riot blade is from on dissidia i never knew til now

  • Great video, thank you for uploading it.

  • Ah, desperation attacks. Good times, good times. It's just a pity the ones that aren't explicitly one hit kills grew useless as your characters got stronger.

  • Uuuuhhhhh...you forgot Umaro's & Gau's....unless they don't have a desperation attack which would be dumb.

  • they don't have any because they don't have the "fight" command

  • ...Yeah I suppose that makes sense, still I'm sure Square could've thought up some substitute for them.

  • Gau has rage instead which is a worthy trade off and Umaro you cant really control so more you can pick between him throwing people and his cold breath....You could imagine their Desperation attacks though. Besides I doubt very many things will live through a couple of cat scratch rages. >.>

  • They don't, and it's not dumb because neither of them have attack commands...

  • I never once used any of these moves during my playthrough of the game. I knew they existed 'cause I'd read the tutorials, but it just never happened.

  • Moogle RUSH!

Saint seiya want his move back...

  • And so is the music!

  • Wher is Gau's limit? And how about that bigfoot character?

  • they dont have desperation attacks because they are extra special characters (in other words, wild cards)

  • they are the only two without limits

  • Gau and Umaro don't have desperation attacks because they don't have an "Attack" command, which is necessary in order to activate it. Gogo, for example, can't use his unless you equip the "Attack" command to his menu. Since his attacks suck, there's really not much of a reason to do this.

  • Thanks for uploading this! I've gotten maybe two of these in the actual game, so it was nice to finally see them.

  • Very nice! I never did use any desperation attacks until that hard battle on top that mirror tower place...it was Edgar's final attack and saved my ass!

    THANKS FOR THIS! 5 STARS!

  • @howiehoward Which tower? You wouldn't have been able to use it in the cultists tower.

  • @hanshotfirst1138 To be honest, I totally forgot. But another detail I remember was that it was rainy in that 'town'

  • Widac że duże lvliki.. bo opstacie były na wyczerpaniu (kucały) XD

  • Celes's spinning edge reminded me of Link's spin attack on Super Smash Bros...

  • I never knew of those attacks.....man

  • i hear this is game is awesome i just hope that they remake this with better graphics though... it's a shame i just can't find myself giving it a chance because of it's graphics...

  • actually I care more about the story but the thing is I just can't enjoy it that much with low graphics i just hope they remake it at least at the same level as ff8 or 9.

  • How Old Are You

  • 21 y?

  • actually my first console was psx :))

  • dude... im 13 on the x generation... i STILL love this game!!!! arent i supposed to hate games in which i cant see the blood glisten on the leaf?

  • no, i bought the cartridge on ebay than got an emulator cause i couldnt be bothered to find a snes. i see, so the advance should be burned?

  • i see, but what if someone made a fan copy of ff6 with all the extra stuff from that advance and put it on the snes? oh yeah and fun fact, originally kaiser dragon WAS on the snes, it was called czar dragon, but, and you were supposed to be attacked by him right after you beat the last dragon, but he was removed from the game, but not from the database,

  • Dude... no offense or anything, but you think I didn't know that?

I knew about Czar Dragon and played a hack with it added into the game years before Advance was even announced.

Go to mediafire, add this after the slash ?ijwok5rwz4l It's the FF6 Czar Dragon patch.

  • ...And they should remember to fix the Evade glitch, that too...

  • I played both (I also played the PS1 version and as usual the ps1 games were crap) and I enjoyed the advanced version SNES is better but either one is fine

  • explosivecobra ur completely right

  • You really need to try this game out because IMO it's the best FF game. The storyline is absolutely amazing as well as the game play. With the storyline, this is the first and only game where I felt every single characters' lives. Truly a master piece.

  • ok ill try it on my psp haha

  • great vid
