I love this series of video. makes me proud to see that despite a racist government, the people went against their policy and welcomed these soldiers and we got to piss the white Americans off as well. That's always a good thing. Strange hypocricy though when you consider how we treated our own black population.

This is quite a sad ending , Im black (Ghanaian) and was born in Australia and live here and Australians are really accepting of cultures but every now and again you do get ignorant racist ..... I think if there is anything someone should get from this is that People are people
I noticed that the newsreel says that Japan surrendered to the US which if anyone has read the surrender is not correct they surrendered to the Allied Forces as a whole so Australia, Canada, France, The UK, The US and New Zealand all signed it.
"Prejudice" is a natural human trait, and isn't necessarily bad (expecting a red burner on a stove to be hot is a form of prejudice), but racism... well, that's just silly...
still proud of my Australian army hertiage lol its good to know that fedderick and frank still talked after the war least we forget maybe the white americans of world war 2 should of thought of how they treated people equal to them its kind of like the green mile it makes you crying seeing that level of racism as we say in Australia least we forget but in america it would be hard to forget that
bruce. I think it is too. People are travelling everywhere now. The world seen by John Lennon as "coffee coloured people by the score" is now becoming a reality. As I mentioned before, I was in Vietnam and the situation was exactly the same as that depicted in WW2. There was a black army and a white one, and the two didn't talk to each other. I think the racism is still there though. You only have to look at youtube and the racism against Barack Obama to see that. It is truly pathetic.
Yeah you know I would/could agree with you about how ugly this world is getting and we all deserve 2012... But instead of wishing upon death on people, wish upon the world would/will get better instead. It's a more positive thing to do, and not so negative.
How do you keep a people down? You 'never' let them 'know' their history.
The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. Read, and visit site/history, rescue at pine ridge. com
Thanks to all the African-American Soldiers & their descendants who helped to defend Australia during WW2.
Thankyou for keeping this country free. Just for the record, my dad was drafted to fight in Vietnam in the 60's & he used to exchange Xmas cards with an AA soldier he met whilst over there. I wrote to him recently to inform him of my dad's death & he even wrote back to me. This gent introduced my dad to blues music & to soul music.
I love Aust, I would fight for Aust, but we can not judge the yanks, I recall seeing PNG people in their own country (men) having to cross the street if a white woman was coming towards them. or they had to look down to the ground and move out of the way if an Australian was walking past them. or there was pubs with separate areas for nationals and dogs. 2nd WW, PNG people not allowed to carry rifles untill towards the end (same attitude as white yanks)
poor bastards, im glad our general population weren't anywhere near like our politicians!
thank you to the US servicemen who helped us during that time and God bless to the Negro soldiers who put up with so much crap from their own country and still gave it their all.
Sad indeed afro-american soldiers have given up so much and still caught hell coming home. No telling what couldve happened if Americans fought together instead of seperately.
I am very proud of the accomplishments of so many brave men and woman who served honorably during a challenging period in American history. It is because of these Soldiers that I serve. Thank you for sharing the documentry
So true even in Adelaide *1930/1940s* granddads best mate was a Asian! And no one gave a dam. It just isn't what you would expect from a country that had a white anglo only policy!
Was glad to see that the average bloke seemed above the racial prejudace, well at least in the case of afro-americans not too sure if our aboriginals would say the same thing though... its a shame really :0/
Racist white America !!!This is the history that your so proud of. The kkk mentality still exist to this day.

Yeah, the foreign blacks get treated better in every white country than the domestic blacks.
Just an observation that I've noted.
