  • "A rose still smells as sweet.......".Excellent films,most instructive.

  • Just finished cutting the petals in my schools metal class! Thank you for the information on the rose!

  • @ZboneWalker

    No problem,

    Good luck with your rose.

    Cheers, M

  • oh and im making this is the second half of the semester :p cant wait

  • uhhh is that a shurikan? O.o

  • how do you get the pedals to over lap eachother just so slightly like you do

  • @jackjnx

The petals start flat. As you lift them into position, their circumference must get smaller and so they overlap.

I wish I could tell you that it was something skillful - but alas no...

    Cheers, M

  • This is so, so cool.

  • beautiful

  • definitely an object of a lot more love .. hard work ..

  • beautiful..

  • Meserias pa pula lui

  • Gave me some good visualization for a fully open kalix (the greenery thats breaks open under the blossom) as i usually have my kalix in a less advanced state of opening. Great work Mark!

  • Good job, I want to make one out of copper for my girl.

  • @TheMedievalMan

Now that it a good use of this technology - I hope she enjoys it.

    Cheers, Mark

  • No offence. Where's forging? Plate of steel and few Fahrenheit degrees. Hmmm. BTW, I admire the way how you taking care of vice/holder.

  • WOOOOOOW..! LA NETA .. ESTA ROSA TE QUEDO BIEN PERRONA.! EXELENTE TRABAJO .!

  • I want to make one but I only have access to an oxygen acetylene torch, can the steam be done without a forge

  • see ebay forged rose

  • bar far the best rose i have seen, i did my degree in metal work and focussed on blacksmithing and also made a rose, but i cut ever single petal out and welded it all together and am just wishing i had seen your vid before doing that as yours is much quicker and looks loads better lol great vid bud

  • 漂亮.手藝讚

  • this is a beautiful piece :) personally not a fan of the actual rose flower myself, but i can definatly say i am impressed with this one and how you have formed the rose petals. really good!

  • iron rose

  • Hey great vid it looks like you've done it a thousand times. Also what are the specific names of the hardy's and tools your using?

also im quite pressed for money and haven't had my oxyacetylene tanks filled in three years, if i heat the entire piece over and over wont i have alot of scale build up in between the petals? how could i avoid that. Thank you for ANY feedback.

  • @Tenebrocity117

I use white vinegar to soak anything forged in to dissolve the scale.

The short tool that I set down onto the rose bud is called a 'Monkey tool' size specific.

The pipe is just pipe with a rolled edge.

I make most of my tools including the tongs.

  • like yeah3001, i too am in 10th grade. thanks for the video it helped alot and my rose turned out great. i need to work on my forge welding though :P

  • Omg nice, i made 1 it was a little hard 4 me but it looks great, thanks 4 the video

  • 10 of 10 points from germany

  • Very nice video! 5 stars,

I have a question, about the blowtorch.

Is it oxygen + acetylene or compressed air +butane?

    Thanks for uploading!

  • @kaotikoko

Oxy/propane with a propane rose bud tip

    Cheers, Mark

  • very nicely done. I was just looking at roses in Schwartzkopfs' -Plain and Ornamental Forging. Yours' is by far the simpler method, with comprable results. There is an allure though to making them from one piece.

  • Oh yes! The rose from one piece is very alluring. I have seen a couple being done, although I have never attempted it.

A thing for the future maybe.

    Cheers, Mark

  • Can't say as I've tried it either. My students made some very nice one piece roses this year, abeithem the scrolled up version. simple and it shows. I'm sure you know the kind. Now that Brian Hughes makes a damn fine one piece rose the Schwartzkopf way. I'll have to pull on his ear about it.

  • barbed wire could be dangerous to a customer and its funny how he uses a torch tip that most people commonly call a rosebud to make that rose anywazy excellent work!

  • copper is easier to make...

  • i have been making copper roses that turn out way better looking than that. its all how you shape it with the hammer and needle nose.

  • Mark's a pro who's written a couple excellent books on blacksmithing -- and this is beautiful work. Let's just see one of your "way better" copper roses.

  • I wouldn't have thought that I'd dare try this, but you make it look so "easy"..... Great video! I'll have to try to score some points with the woman with this.

  • Great video Mark...What size/gauge stock you using for the leaves and petal parts?

  • 16 or 18 ga depending upon what I have lying around.

    Cheers, Mark

  • Gorgeous rose! This helps me a lot, as i was hoping to make something like this soon, but how do you make the stem look less like an iron stick?

  • i don't know exactly how to do it, but i saw one of these where the stem was barbed wire. (i think they made there own barbed wire, so it would be stronger/larger) but i worked well, as it gave the rose its thorns.

  • I forge weld on some leaves prior to making the flower.

But getting rid of 'the stick' is a problem. Texture and a curved shape.

    Cheers, Mark

  • absolutley beautiful mate. good job!

  • i made one with copper if u have leaves u can make them green with painting on flux and heating and leave it for a day than put clear nail polish on but it only work on copper

  • Good video, this is an excellent way to fabricate a rose. I've used a few techniques, some have even been as laborious as welding petal by petal.

  • Love the work and thanks for the lesson Sir.

  • I'm not sure about the 'Sir' bit.... but you're welcome.

    Cheers, Mark

  • Are you looking for an apprentice, I'd love to work with someone who knows what their doing instead of trying to teach myself

  • i would like to know where the blanks came from or their sizes. thanks

  • I get the petal blanks cut out by a water jet service.

    The blanks are 2, 3, 3.5 and 4.25 discs.

I have made them from copper using shears to cut them out.

    Cheers, Mark

  • No gloves!!! wow. no problem.

Very beautiful piece. I love watching you work and seeing how the metal comes to life.

  • well done mark! wish i had a the stuff to make it :P
