  • ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • You have no idea how stupid I felt! I've been looking for weeks and no other resource I've found so far has explained this. Thank you so much!

  • very helpful!

  • Ah, what a clear & helpful explanation, thank you T__T I just started to & making a simple afghan but somehow managed to drop stitches, add on, even discovered yarn stitch without realising it, haha! Thanks again!

  • this is very helpful for me as a begging Knitter. However i am still getting a loopy and holey mess, maybe it is my knitters error but thank yo so much

  • @starkacmarsky

Check your tension. If it's too loose then you're not holding your yarn tightly enough or you're using knitting needles that are too large for your individual tension.

  • Very helpful, thank you very much!

  • This is so helpful thank you so much

  • This was sooo helpful, thanks a bunch!!

  • (cont.)

do u have any advice for someone who is trying to make a beanie for the first time??? that's actually my first project.

  • perfect view of ur hands. :) thanks for posting this up. quality is good, instructions are easy to follow and i can see everything clearly. i also like how u showed ur regular speed. gives me a better idea on how my hands should move.

i'm very new to knitting. i bought my first pair of knitting needles today and have been practicing the garter stitch for most of that time. i've been looking for a vid like this that's easy to follow. :)

thanks again for posting this vid. :)

  • That was very easy to understand and SO helpful. Thankyou.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. This seemed the logical solution but I wanted to see someone do it to confirm that I had it right. Now I'm going to attempt my first ribbed piece.

  • Not sure what the hellboundsweet's issue is, but I thought the vido was GREAT! Thanks so much for posting.

  • thank you! i had a guidebook but couldn't for the life of me figure out why i couldn't alternate between stitches correctly.

  • @hellboundsweet I feel your frustration! To answer your question: yes, I think before I post videos. I think about what challenges knitters might face when learning a new technique, and I try to help as much as I am able. However, as you've noticed, there are limitations to what can be achieved in videos. I suggest that you stop by your local yarn shop and ask them to show you how it's done. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you. Good luck with your knitting adventures!

  • @hellboundsweet I found it extremely helpful. God, doesn't anybody think before randomly being nasty to people for no reason??

  • @hellboundsweet this video would be helpful for those of us who already understand what a knit and purl is. i just learned what they are and totally understood what this video is saying. you should check out some videos on how to knit and how to purl first, then come back here.

  • I have been knitting for years... but have not done so for a very long time.. quickly popped on youtube for an easy "knit/purl" combo. PERFECT! Thank you ever so much. :D The clearest video i have seen, and a mega super bonus is that you have a lovely voice. Unlike other speakers on youtube. Hee hee.

  • Dear god thank you.

  • thanks so much for making this ! iuno why but i always though you had to push the needle through the other circle on the backside of the left needle in the purl stitch and that made things so much harder @@ but this totally helped thanks! :)

  • OMG thanks my mom cant help me because she doesn' know how to knit she only knows how to needle point. So Thx (((((((hugs)))))))

  • @meyershailey2 Thanks for the hugs! Right back at ya!

  • HA! Thank you, as many people have said -- this helped me out a lot. Also just beginning to knit and a bit mad at myself that I did such a simple mistake. Thank you again!

  • i shouldve watched this before. i did it wrong and now my blanket looks weird. ah well im only 16 :P

  • Thank you so very much!!! Simple, yet very helpful!

  • Thankyou! The literal tears of frustration have been wiped away! :D

  • @cheesyham9 Oh you poor thing! I'm happy that your eyes are now dry. :-)

  • so knit and purl is just another name for ledt and right? cause my mom taught me that without the fancy names :D

  • @moran500 Yep, in many languages the stitches are called 'left' and 'right'.

  • I have been thinking of starting to knit since I need to practice more on my arts and crafts skills. I was wondering how do you start this specific stitch?

  • Thanks for the help. When I didn't know how to switch, my work was always so horrible. Now it is perfect again! Thanks!!

  • WOW!! my life now makes sense...! :D

  • do you know how to knit gloves with a thumb?the only tutorials i can find only shows fingerless gloves:P great tutorial:D sorry for my bad english:/

  • @sianomatic IKR?!?!

  • you are the best!!! I'm teaching myself to knit and pearl. I finally got the 2 stitches down but i couldn't figure out how to put them together!! thank you soooo much :) :)

  • Great clip, thanks. I have found ebeginnersknitting (.) com to be very helpful also

  • oh my god thank you <3

  • Lord in heaven knows....u are so plain and understandable! I grateful to God for u.

I was fustrated trying to this, I had tried time after time after time...and still was coming out to a loopy mess, but when I searched and found this vid...it all became successful and well. Thank you so very much for showing this so plain and clear. Now I can do my rib stitching. Love this...

  • under the explination it says row 1 knit 1, purl 1:repeat from * row 2 repeat row 1, repeat row 2 for knit,purl1 rib.

Do I knit one of each knit purl or just knit 1 row then purl the next row? Any advise would really help me out thanks a million

  • Hello your video is very helpful, thank you for posting. Question for you, do I follow the stitch explination or the direction under the shawl? It says how many I need to cast on then below it has next row (right side) knit Next row(wrong side) Purl, repeat last 2 rows until piece measures 50 in.

  • Thanks! I'm trying to do the purl stitch and I never knew you had to change this like! :)

  • That is very helpful! Thank you!

  • i cant believe it is that simple i started over twice because i couldn't figure that out i searched everywhere for that answer, now back to work!...tomorrow gotta sleep now zzzz

  • That's what I was doing wrong!! I haven't knitted for a long while and couldn't figure out what I was missing when I tried to incorporate purl into my knit. Moving the yarn seems so obvious! Thank you!!

  • OH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

I've knit for FOREVER but I could never figure this out.

You are, as of now, my BFF.

  • SO HELPFUL! my problem was this pattern is k2 p2 and i messed it up when i was switching between the two because i didnt have that long string in the right place, so watching you switch it between the kneedles was exactly what i was looking for, thank you

  • Thank you very much for this. I knew purl and knit but I had never used them in the same row before.

  • thanks for this video, it makes the difference between purl and knit soooo much easier especially for a beginner, like me.

  • Thank you! So many videos just assume you know this. I was going insane trying to figure out what stitch I was missing when the yarn kept moving around the needle at odd moments! They would say Purl, Knit, Knit in back, Purl. The extra movement of yarn from front to back confused me and my project did NOT look right. :(

  • Thank you!!! I was so confused.

  • thank you!!! very helpful and clear...i was lost b4 tryin 2 make a baby blanket which asked 4 the pattern of knit 4 purl 8 and i didnt know how 2 switcch between the 2...but im gettin the hang of it thanks 2 u!!!

  • Thanks, you saved my life! I was halfway through a hat last year and then forgot about it until today, and when I tried to resume I found I had forgotten how, haha.

  • Thank you so much :] I'm still pretty much a novice knitter, and I can purl, but it was really hard to switch mid-row. Your video cleared it up, and you knit really fast!

  • thanks! very helpful :)

  • Thank you so much for this video. I've just learned purl and struggled forever with switching between the two stitches. Your video took less than a minute and cleared up all my struggles!

  • thank you so much for posting this video. I'm a beginner and was confused but your videos are so simple yet informative.

  • ohhhhh thxs

  • very clear video - thanks so much!

  • Thank you sooooo much! I couldn't understand how I kept having so many additional stitches and having 'tight' stitches! It was that I was not moving the yarn to the proper front/back for the knit/purl stitch. Again, thank you very much!

  • Thank you. I was wondering what I was doing wrong. This was alot of help :-)

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I have been tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to do this. I had an amazing "A HA!" moment just now.

  • Thank you for providing such clear, concise instruction! There's so many confusing tutorials out there, you're a *huge* help to the novice knitster!

  • Thank you for this video! I was getting so confused. I love how easy you make it look. I can't wait to get better so I can knit and purl fast, too. :)

  • Thanks!

It was really annoying me having more stitches than I was supposed to.

I get to have fun combining them now.. Ah well, at least it won't happen again :D

  • Thank you so much for clearing comb stitch up for me! It was driving me nuts not understanding why I was seeing so many more loops on my needles than there should have been. *laugh*

  • FAB! So simple yet it had me in a tizz! Thanks heaps!

  • Thanks for this! I watched videos on how to knit and how to pearl but couldnt find one that combined changing between the two- im all set now!

  • Thank you so much because when I tried to learn this from my mother she moved too fast and didn't talk me through it. This really helped me out so now it makes more sense to me. Once again thank you so much!

  • Thank you! Now I can see what I was doing wrong! I am so excited to get back to my knitting now~!

  • thank you thank you!!!!!

  • Your technique is so smooth. I have been knitting for a month, and I am very jerky. Please tell me that it will get better. It's especially difficult to switch between purl and knit stitch and hold on to the needles.

  • Thank you so much for posting this - I was going crazy trying to figure out why mine wasn't working!

  • For 1x1 ribbing, if you have an even number of stitches, every row is the same (i.e., k1, p1, k1, p1, etc). If you have an odd number of stitches, the rows are worked just like you wrote.

  • I LOVE YOU! I was going crazy! thx thx thx thx thx!

  • Thank you for your video! I have a book on knitting which is supposed to be all inclusive, but I couldn't find how to switch between the knit and purl stitch anywhere. Your tutorial has saved me from undue stress. Thank you!!!

  • Oh, thank you so much! This was exactly what I needed!

  • This is exactly what I needed...I couldn't figure out how to switch between the two. This made it very clear and simple.

  • i was so confused untill now

  • Your videos are SOO helpful. Thank you SO much!

  • You are a wonderful human being.

  • I LOVE YOU. I've been messing this up all night, and you've made it all clear. THANKS!!!!

  • Thank you so much! I am just learning to knit, and I was getting so frustrated trying to switch between knit and purl in the same row. This video made it crystal clear! I'm so excited! (((hugs)))

  • Finally it's clear to me why any patterns I try that include alternating knit/purl stiches haven't been working! Thank you... this video was very helpful :)

  • Wow. Ribbing is pretty, too.

  • too fast.

  • So helpful! I've been having trouble with ribbing, but this helps a lot :)

  • thanks this was very helpful i was having trouble with ribbing

  • whats looks the best for a simple scarf? Knit, purl , or knit and purl?

  • I couldn't say what looks 'best' - it depends on your personal taste. How about you make a small square of each fabric and see what you like! Elsteffo
