Most malware will stay in the Virtual machine like it should. If the malware does a port scan it can see your host machine on the network and can transfer that way. If you have good antivirus protection and good firewall HIPS protection you should be able to block it from doing anything. Also if you have a router firewall enabled it will block much of that.
The Other thing malware can do is wipe your MBR. Hips can prevent that too. I do it on my host and have never run into issues though.
Well, to be honest, I wouldn't feel very safe with Eset smart security. It doesn't have a very good firewall and doesn't have HIPS. Therefore any unknown malware will just destroy your MBR and it won't be blocked.

Please, only do it in a virtual machine though.
It isn't safe at all, even in a virtual machine unless you really know what you are doing.

Thank u very much. I have gotten nasty malware but never got into my host machine. I got eset smart security 4.0 so I feel very safe.

I HATE ESET. It can't protect itself well. I had it and malware kept freezing it when it scanned some certain files/folders.
