  • Traffic flow would be greatly improved all round if you could turn left on red when the coast is clear. I lived in California for years where they have the turn-right-on-red law in place. I never once saw an accident due to it & am sickened while pointlessly waiting on red in empty junctions in my car.

That's why I love cycling & breaking reds with impunity.

  • I cycle in dublin and i only go throw when i know im not goin to get in the way of people or passin cars , I think thats far and if ye think its not , Then fuck you your the one sitting in your car gettin fat :)

  • The red lights are to stop cars so we can get through on our bikes. Is it so hard to understand? Anyway, the more of us on bikes, the less cars to create traffic jams, so why all the whinging? Is it just jealousy?

  • I do it too. I used to NEVER break a red light, but now I proceed with caution. If the path is clear and it doesn't interfere with traffic it's fair game. The reason I started - got sick of being treated like dirt by motorists. I also consider cyclists to be closer in nature to pedestrians, so car rules "shouldn't" apply as strictly.

  • I regularly cycle around Dublin and while I see a lot of cyclists breaking red lights (and a lot of pedestrians jaywalking and a lot of bad driving) one thing I never ever do is break a red light. We don't all do it, so please don't tar us all with the same brush.

  • I dont see any harm on most of them.I cycle through these places everyday and I know why they do it (not oconnell street though but the rest I know why) also cycling on the pediestrians path, sometimes there no other way!because of cars on our way! and I always get of my bike if its busy or cycle reallys slowly.hoever today I was cyling at 5oclock in the morning in grafton st cos there was noone! r u a cylist?

  • This is Dublin, European capital of Jaywalking, it is inevitable that cyclists do this.

  • in holland this is "normal "..

  • No its not, they're very law abiding in Holland with regards their lights.

  • @downfader2 speaking as someone who lives in holland, you dont have a clue what you're talking about.

  • @footcrab When general perceptions are put to the test they often fail. This has been proved time and time again for generalisations such as "BMW drivers", "women drivers", and the age old "cyclists jump the lights".

I've read the blogs and seen the videos from Holland, its no different to anywhere else

  • @downfader2 :D trust me if you cycle in Amsterdam , Rotterdam or any where in the Netherlands cyclists ignore redlights

  • Come to Maynooth Co.Kildare where motorists do the exact same thing every single day at the traffic lights beside the cop shop...

  • But is Art ?

Where does mindless obedience end and individual responsibility begin ?

Or: If they can do it, so can I.
