Sure this is real, but it's a public safety hazard and vandalism, all that is being done is he is tripping the photocell (light sensor) making it think it is daylight, it will come back on in a few minutes.

@Second2Rush well.. when you focus the laser light onto a smaller area it's like first trying to pop a balloon with a flat/really blunt nail - there will be less pressure so you would need to exert a greater force to penetrate the balloon, and if you have a sharp object it will have a greater pressure, so less power needed. Laser beam when unfocused the power is spread out and so it is hard to pop the balloon; laser beam when focused fully will put all its power onto one point ^^

I had a laser from dealextreme. the 50mw one same model type, it was under powered I think. I would not burn anything and the beam was only a bit visible at a half dark room. The dot was bright though, too bright to watch. I tried to switch off a streetlight in my street. they look different ofcourse, and I could not make them go out. I did turned off solar powered lights in my yard tough lol

@fedders4 Any laser can do it as long as it is bright enough. Just shine it at the light sensor on top of the light post. That is what determines when it is dark enough to turn the lights on.

the reason it goes off is because street lights have a LDR in them (light dependent resistor) which means when it is dark they will turn on and if there is light it will go off

Guys it doesnt matter if he hits the bulb or not. Street lights are light sensitive so they turn off when the sun comes out. A powerful laser simulates the sun so the light goes out.

DON'T BUY NON-IR CERTIFIED GREEN LASERS!!! Like ebay lasers!!! They are extremely dangerous becouse human eye can't see IR light and safety glasses don't block it! Buy only high quality green laser pointers (even if the price is many times higher).

IR light has the potential to be dangerouse. eBay lasers are 5mW and below due to policy. 5mW green lasers have a 200-250mW ir pump diode. Much of this IR doesn't make it out of the laser, the rest diverges so quickly that for the little that escapes to do any damage you would have to hold the laser within a foot of your face and shine it directly in your eye.
