I have a particular issue with a (presumably) 25" monitor on a Star Trek Voyager Sit-Down game. With few exception, when starting the game at the beginning of the day, it will look "scrambled", like an undecoded cable signal. When I adjust the picture bright in the back to full power, it will correct the screen and I'm able to adjust it back down to appropriate levels. Just so I won't have to babysit my game on-location every morning, how do I fix this, short of tube replacement? Shooter=crt
I don't use a coil, I just move up north until the yellow tint goes away. Just kidding. Nice video, some coils have a 1 minute on and off time, so you don't overheat it. At least mine did.
Continued, to degauss monitor. What is weird is I have 11 arcade games that I have brought to my house in my truck, and have rearranged and moved around in my garage many times. I have never had to degauss any of them. I had to buy a degaussing coil just for my touchy spy hunter, I don't know what the deal is with it? But at least the coil worked when I hit the back of the monitor first, thanks for posting your videos.
My spy hunter needed degaussing after I moved it.For some reason it's very touchy, even if I move it a few feet I have to degauss it. It has a replacement kortex monitor. I could not get the color back just right after degaussing,I tried 3 times. when I read the monitor manual it said that you should also degauss all metal surrounding the monitor. The 4th time I degaussed, I degaussed the back of the monitor(chassis) first and it worked great, maybe this little tip will help someone that has a
@UpNorthLiving2011 Unfortunately we do not sell the degaussing coils on our site. You can, however, buy the same degaussing coil that Tim uses in the video from MCM Electronics for around $30 (NOT including S&H). Just do a Google search for "mcm degaussing coil" it should be the first link.
Having an issue along the lines of this. After using the degausser many times the discoloration remains on the screen, and large color fields like cyan or white look bruised. I've tried moving the cabinet around to face different polar directions, removed the speakers, and waving the degauss tool along the cabinet frames
I'm not sure if this was discussed on the podcast, but does adjusting the yoke fix purity problems like this? Also are kitchen magnets safe to fix magnetic fields in the cab ?
@Paperclown The technician at the arcade I work at told me if I’m degaussing and when I finish the screen goes back the way it was to try a trick of his. Go through the process just how are friend here teaches us, then when the screen looks good turn the degasser 90 degrees so the side of the degassers faces you before you turn it off.

Will this work on a large 25 inch monitor?
TapGage 1 year ago
@TapGage Yes, we have used this particular degaussing coil on a 25 inch monitor and it works on that as well.
