Some people criticize his costume not being elaborate enough, but to be honest Gerard was able to command that attention on his own, and display that arrogant confident side of the Phantom so well. I also loved how he barely blinked in any scene. It gave off such a madness and aura of power to Erik.

I think this is the deleted scene from the Dark Knight that explains the plot hole when batman jumps out of the building and leaves the joker with a room full of rich hostages. he just wanted to give them that screenplay he wrote. Then the rest of the movie can be easily explained as the depraved vengeance of a liberal arts major who thought he would have a job in this economy. Makes so much sense now.

Good to have the Phantom so sexy here - but costume designer Alexandra's Burnes' 'vision' for this scene is a pale comparison to Maria Bjornson's colourful original. The black and white theme is so old hat (My Fair lady Ascot scene?!). Also, the choreography is very uninspired. This film was such a wasted opportunity. But then, of course, it was done for kids so adult fans of the show were bound to be left disappointed.

The film wasn't really made for adult fans of the show -it was aimed directly at teens - hence the questionable casting. Gerard Butler is a very sexy fella but vocally out of his depth and Rossum is very weak. It's not a bad move, just a dull one. Burne's costumes for Elizabeth were amazing - but POTO certainly wasn't her finest hour.
