Yep, that animation is from the actual film. I was fortunate enough to get an amazing 25th anniversary edition on DVD with loads of commentary by Don Bluth and co. about their departure from Disney. Banjo really is a neat little short film and the animation is great.

I believe there also exists a Thumbellina game for the PC, but I don't think it's lasergame-like. Anyone know more about it?

Cool - just downloaded it. There was a Japanese laserdisc arcade game based on Lupin III that used footage from the game much like Banjo similar to this.
