you can always tell a GREAT actor from "merely" a good one by how different their speech and mannerisms in-character are from their real life demeanor. Both of these guys, especially jackie earle are incredible actors. Look at Daniel Day Lewis and his character Daniel Plainview from there will be blood, literally could not be a bigger difference.

I'm a huge fan of the graphic novel and I got the director's cut. A brilliant and flawed masterpiece IMO. They went above and beyond on Rorschach and DrManhattan and nailed the comedian and Night owl.

But Ozymandias and both Silk Spectres? Blech. And cutting out DrManhattan's last scene with Ozy was a mistake. And the soundtrack was not great.

A film that flirted with greatness. It is worth watching the director's cut for those uninitiated.

I'm glad you added the thing about the squid; in my opinion, the squid thing was way too cheesey Bond-villain. I liked the way they did it in the movie much better. It managed to change it into something a bit less silly and still maintain the importance of the act and the character.
