CH53 can just carry about 8 tones. Its about 4 times stronger than the CH53. Mi 26 holds 27 world records. The CH53 holds noone. First, the Navy flies the MH-53E, and it is used for mine sweeping, not combat support. The pavelow is Airforce, it is the A/D airframe with two engines and six blades. The Marine Corps also still flies A/D airframes, mostley reserve units.

Russian MI-26 is bigger, more powerful and can lift 44,000 lbs compared to CH53E's maximum lift of 36,000 lbs. There are 2x more MI-26 than CH53E built

Russia has no such ambitions anymore but their aviation especially fixed rotor technology is still arguably the world's best. Russia built the largest and most powerful helicopters and cargo planes in history. I also like their twin rotor Kamov helicopters that don't need a tail rotor. US technology is goo too but freakin expensive

@FeelFree3 i think the super stallion is faster and nimbler than the halo. the halo is big and has a high cargo capacity but sure enough, all that weight makes the helo very heavy and less meneuverable. however, it practically makes up this disadvantage with its capacity, as the halo can carry about 90 troops, almost three times the capacity of the super stallion.

Sorry, aaroxbeck , but you can't blame Obama (or even Bush) for this one. Igor Sikorsky emigrated to the US between the World Wars, became a US citizen, and founded his company here. These 'choppers are as American as Apple pie.

And I can't remember the last time an American sub mysteriously exploded and ended up in Davy Jones locker, taking the whole crew with it. I'd recommend an engineering degree from a US school rather than one in Russia (which technically is in Asia, not Europe).

i was the squad leader of a heli deployable unit based in 29 palms from 1994-1996. it could hold my reinforced squad (consisting of 13 marines plus 2 attached machinegun teams with all our equipment) and we would fast rope out of these 53's as it hovered over our drop zone. thanks for bringing back some great memories of a totally awesome machine (it was my personal favorite out of the heli's back then). semper fi
