  • That whole family is a treasure!

  • very rare and very expensive 12 " IF you can find it....beautiful....

  • Just a masterpiece. With such a heavy message. Still great and new after all these years. Part of my "chill" collection of music for when it's time to "turn the lights down low".

  • The first time I heard this song I was stationed at Ft. Jackson South Carolina in AIT school training. I met my first love their. She was so beautiful. The problem was the fact that she was Mexican and I'm African American. Her family wouldn't except me because of my race and this song has been my anthem every sense then. I will love this song until the day I die.

  • Masterpiece.....timeless.Great posting.

  • @ricki926 you are so right about that Michael Franks along with this but let's take it up a bit with adding some steely dan's Aja. It's like a musical orgasm!!!!!!!!

  • One of my favorite Ronnie Laws songs. Saw him in person years ago with my beloved and it was fantastic.

  • Hands up who came here after hearing this song on Radio 2 (UK) a couple of days ago? Well, I did and what a great song. I was 19 when this song came out and i can honestly say i don't remember hearing it back then! Well, just 30 years late, but glad to have heard it now. What a great song in every respect.

  • Thanks for posting this. This came out when as a student at The Ohio State University I first traveled to Georgia and got in touch with my roots. I am my father and my son is me. With Gods' help let us make each generation stronger.

  • Takes me back to those high days in 1980, when I first heard this song. To date, it is one of the mellowest and most profoundest songs I have ever heard.

  • Hey this is what music is and always will be. The melody, the words, the genius behind the music itself is just beautiful!!. Ronnie Laws is a baad motha!! (excuse the expression). Music like this never dies. Thank God! Thank you Ronnie.

  • Beautiful song, and timeless. The Laws family is truly talented and truly underrated. God Bless them, nonetheless.

  • Timeless music. Beautiful soul.

  • Fantastic but PLEASE, someone upload the B-side / instrumental of this great song!

  • We of this time truly understand what real music is. Only GOD can give such a gift that has lasted me my whole life. There is NOTHING like the music from the 60's, 70's and some of the 80's. Voices, songs, instruments that touch you deep into your soul. Ronnie Laws to just to name some was so gifted.

  • I have to say I am the biggest Ronnie Laws fan around..... I remember when I was coming home from school back in the 70's and my mother was watching Merv Griffin and I walked in on this man playing the Sax. From that day on, I had to learn all about jazz and the sax..... Thanks Ronnie Laws...

  • I am only two years old, but this is deep shit

  • @TheEdddi ROTFLMAO !!! yo ass is stupid !

  • @ceilinggod sad but true sometimes here.. instead of people telling you how they like the song, they are telling you how old they are ... so this is cynical parody

  • My Favorite SAX Player In The World

  • Turn the lights down and just drift away........Pure class...

  • Im only 17.. my father put me on this. Iove music from this time, it has substance and meaning, #REAL MUSIC. <3

  • This one always takes me back, Jr High school. Miss you Sis, 1963-2007..

  • Real Music ♪♫►♥ it.

  • This is real music, it's a soulful essence, like a sweet aroma, like someone said it has it's innocence about it...I play it over and over again on the pod this one and Lady Wants to Know Michael Frank....it puts you in a smooth jazz vibe, don't want to come out of that one, it's like u comatose....

  • Just beautiful!

  • WJZZ Detroit all day....

  • Old school jam @ it best. Remember our music was here first!!! :-)

  • love the video simple and oldschool

  • It's hard for me to put into words the tranquility and peace I feel when I hear this song. It takes me back to time of innocense and strong family units. I agree with SouthSdChi, it is a very hauntingly beautiful song, and I too have loved it since I was a child. And Sexybisquit, I agree with you as well. If artist today had an inkling of this caliber of music it could change a generation. Timeless masterpiece...

  • @kueen777

    Well said, Kueen.

  • @kueen777 i have been listening to this since 1980 when i was 20 years old it is one of the greatest tracks i have ever heard. To this day it still sends shivers down my spine it is simply mindblowing.

  • @kueen777 You are so right..it takes me back to when times were good..people sincerely cared for one another. When I found this last year I listened and wanted to linger with the thoughts in my head. It is a timeless masterpiece indeed .....artists today have no idea of how to reach deeper.

  • I think these days everyone is about what can be produce quickly and can make money. Artist don't seem to have the time nor the desire to come out with something that will stand up to past artists. We have alot of air these days and little to no real substances. I guess it like the song says.. every generation is reflecting what it sees.... We all need to get better eyes to see with then !!!

  • @chlofene You said it. you said it!

  • This song by Ronnie was telling. I think it reflected his (our) mindset as regards past events repeating themselves. If we cannot learn the lessons of the past we will be forever caught up in the lies of the past. 1975

  • Comment removed

  • Reminds me of when i was a little boy, at my grandpa&grandma's house under the tree, without a care in the world. The world seemed conquerable then......but now, wow!

  • Lovely!!!

  • My mind is certainly not here while listening.....

  • BIGUP 2 Whoever posted dis I aint heard dis joint since my childhood ive sooo been lookin 4 dis song and I finally found it and I now know who its by WHEW! I feel so much betta CLASSIC SHIT nuthin like dat olskool best believe.

  • GOD, THIS was one of my favorite tunes from 1979(and there were many great tunes THAT year!) This tune is so HAUNTING, one can never forget it...

  • The Closest i heard from anyone sampling this was Drake, He sampled this exact song and remixed it sorta "Drake - Greatness"

So some folks, Mainstream artists do listen back to the roots of Good music like this..

Well atleast a few of them do, and Rarely when they do does it song good.

  • Great Song thanks.

    PERFECT SOUND Ortofon :D

  • Seriously, the whole to this song gives each generation that hears it an understanding of the wisdom that each generation gives us! Makes us conscious of the legacy we might want to leave, and never too late! Musically, superb!

  • dang I was only gonna listen to this for a little bit. Because I heard my man Hi-Tek mention him in a videom but I honestly couldn't stop listening.

  • You people are a bright group, thank God, some are still around. From the comments I have read here, I'm still holding out for hiope.

    hank you.

  • It says every generation. This was ours and the others have theirs too. U can't pick and choose what inspires people, only observe!

    Angie P.

  • alguie que me pueda proporcionar laletra de esta cancion gracias

  • man I love that track thanx for posting!!!!

  • I ought this album when it first came out in 1980. As a matter of fact I still have this album. When I listen to Ronnie Laws, I remember the days of the real music. This is the type of song that makes you sit back and think, What was I doing then. This type of music can never be replaced. I shall always remember these days. How could I not?

  • had this album really loved it ,then one day my son found my collection ,and borrowed it , I'm wandering if I'll ever get it back ,hint hint ????????

  • is this Gino Minelli??

  • @1959child

no tis Ronnie Laws....the clue is in the Title :D

  • Outstanding song there just do it the way it was back in the day. Old school forever.

  • love this song ! thanx for posting!!

  • i love this tune - bloody fantastic

  • Love this too much! As a "Young'n", I discovered this just 2 years ago but never stopped loving it since, and I never will. Can we say THE golden age in R&B/soul?: '70's & early 80's. This is a groove to make love to, to dance to, and of course to unwind & contemplate on "every generation" :_-)

  • The whole Laws family has it going on, talented (true) artists!

  • Thanks FastFlyer2007 I use to listen to Ronnie when I was in College. It takes me back. Keep them coming and thanks for sharing.

  • This track evokes feelings of happiness and sadness at the same time. Real music can do that... I was in H.S. when this came out and it was in heavy rotation on the quiet storm. This track just grabs you and doesn't let go. I played it for my daughter -who's 17-and it grabbed her too. She played it over and over again... Good music touches all ages; all generations. Thanks, Ronnie.

  • Very good sound quality for vinyl. I actually miss the sound of the needle on the record. Kids these days don't know what they are missing.

  • Truly a classic! Can't find it on cd!

  • I agree with you sexy bisquit

  • Oohh man this brings me back, this is why i took up the sax. best make out music ever!

  • The whole album was great!

  • yes...yes...yes....Ronnie!!!!!

  • This record brings back my military days in my early 20s; it would make me think so deeply about life. Thank goodness for great music like this; it served as a guide and made us think. Music like this is just a relevant today as it was back then. I'm grateful to have appreciated it's beauty then and appreciate even moreseo today in my 50s.

  • I used to have this vinyl, thank you for keeping yours in such great condition and sharing.

  • have you ever looked in the face of age?....or lend your ears to what an old man had to say ?

means much more to me now...

  • @btinsley1

I feel you. And to think that today, a lot of young people have no respect for themselves, much less for the aged, or what an old man may have to say. :(

  • WOW, didnt know there was a long version of this. I met Ronnie's sister, Eloise, and she's very lovely and personable. Very talented family, indeed.

  • I smile when I realize that this is what i was listening to when i was a teen and in my early 20's as opposed to what these unfortunate young people have to hear today. Even my own daughter thanked me for raising her listening to old school. She says when she needs a mellow moment she has to go old school to get it. I guess I could call it my gift to her.

  • Grooves like this wasnt always about making love either (although it doesnt hurt). But this kind of music allowed you to sit alone in a dimly lit room with your favorite drink, close your eyes and quietly enjoy. The message and the music all speaks to you in its own unique way. We may have to totally skip a generation for music to get back to the way it was meant to be because this current generation is caught-up in todays musical chaos

  • This is a superb track.Agree with you..have been listening to this since its release and it really inspires me.

  • Man o man...where did you get a 12" of this...even the sound quality of the posting gives me chills...bless you and thanks for posting one of my all time favorites..

  • This song is MUSIC at it's best!!! Raw uncut "Killa"!!! The arrangements & lyrics are Classic! Wow...the late 70's & early 80's TRULY produced some of the WORLDS BEST artist & timeless music!!! Thanks for the post

  • i first heard this about 26 years ago when i bought the album for my brothers birthday. But when i heard this track AND ''young child'' on the same album, i kept it for my self and went out and bought the ''ALWAYS THERE '' LP for my bro instead. Beautiful piece of music. Very special.

  • god bless you all !

  • Thank God for the music of yesteryear

  • i watched his concert during the 80's at PICC here in manila...would you believed he was stoned the entire evening... but he played well...thanks for posting..

  • @doublej59mvill

lol! Yea, the 70s and 80s were times when folk were getting plenty stoned.

  • Wow , great to find this, it certainly has a certain haunting something that took me straight back to the 80's, i shut my eyes and wish i was there in real life......now im 50 and arthritis creeping in, gone are those carefree days..........at least i had the privalidge to be there

  • Sexybisquit has hit the nail on the head, with a sledge hammer. The list goes on and on with those artists that made us feel the Soul. Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Edwin Star, George Benson, Ojays..........This song brings back memories when in a club they played the Slow Jams, just like this track and then you make Love Baby.

  • very aspiring artist

  • My Dad gave me a copy of this track when I was about 13 years old and into punk & new wave music. I thought I would give it a listen and thought it was fantastic, loved it ever since. That was 30 years ago!!

    Dids

  • purospoops00/ brings back those good old days with my "TROPA"

i simply don't get tired listening to Mr. Laws music!!!

  • What a perfect song!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like this song, but, I remember a song he came out with in 1983. I only remember a lyric, that said " just want to be with you tonight".

  • These may be the lyrics from a song he did called "Stay Awake" . I'm not sure what album it was released on, maybe Solid Ground.

  • @Decymba1 Thanks!

  • You're welcome :)

  • this song brings back many memories, its just an awesome tune by ronnie laws, i adore his great voice... it makes me dream about my brazilian angel sofia ;)

  • This was high school jam in my case. And for me, there three alblums(CDs in '91) that had a real soulful, reflective impact on me: Faces(EWF), Heroes(Commodores), and this one, Every Generation(Ronnie Laws). They aired around the same period I lost three of my relatives: an uncle, a grandmother and a cousin all on my mom's side. The last died of misadventure. Painful to hear these tunes sometimes but others, they're also encouraging to hear. Music's a wonderful timekeeper!!!

  • oh ye ah!!!!...need MORE of this BACK in MY LIFE!!!

  • this is the shit.....crystal clear. rep the Burgh..great post. Gods gift of Sound

  • A hauntingly beautiful song. I've loved it ever since it was played on the radio...I was only 7. Can't help but daydream about life: the good times and those that aren't here anymore. This song will definitely take you there. Powerful Music!

  • @SouthSdChi Ur spot on wiv ur comments iz voice iz outa thiz world

  • @SouthSdChi - Whewww, TALK!!! ... YESSS So Very True!

  • @SouthSdChi I agree totally!! I get chills everytime I listen to it. It does make you reflect..I love it!

  • Does anyone have the lyrics to this song. If so, could you please post them or msg them to me. Thanks.

  • a great song.

  • They just don't make music like this anymore. I don't care who's going gold or platinum, no new artist can get down like this! I wish all these new musicians that are getting rich off of waek garbage that sounds nothing like music would take a listen to this and put down their mics out of respect for artists like Ronnie, Teddy P, Harold Melvin and Marvin Gaye. Now that is music you just don't listen to...that is music you feel in the very fiber of your being. Anyone else agree?

  • @sexybisquit

    I certainly do!

  • Yep, That goes the same for me! Although I have to say there are some out there who have real potential. But a comment was made on another vid page that the industry dictates what's going to sell and therefore the real goods are lost in the mix much of the time. So it's not always the fault of the artists. But usually, yes, they can be attributed. It just doesn't get any better than stuff like this!!!

  • @sexybisquit

I totally agree...you summed out the now generation and their lack of talent...Preach...!!!

  • @sexybisquit, i agree with you 100%. todays music is about quantity and not quality. They're not students of music that really try to learn their craft and it shows by the lack of actual music (instruments) being played today. Its mostly beats thru edits, copies and samples. especially hip-hop which doesnt depend on music at all. In this song, notice where the singing actually stops and the music is played. That doesnt exist today because few if any can play music anymore.

  • @summersbr1 You are so right when you say that musical instruments aren't used anymore. I'm so sick of the hip hop beats that have been going on for 2 decades now. These cats out there are making some major scratch for nothing. I mean I can write poetry and do open mic. That doesn't make me a musician though. I miss artists like Ronnie and Lonnie Liston Smith. No new artists know why that music from the '70's was so successful. They should all have to listen to this b4 they get contracts!

  • @sexybisquit, songs about real feelings and love are considered too soft today so the youngsters migrate to the hard and angry stuff and after some time it reflex in their mannerisms and attitude. They soon dress, talk and act as "off the chain" as the music is. I cant figure out for the life of me what happened to black music. The musical torch was passed on from the older to this younger generation but I dont think its been handled very well

  • @summersbr1 You know, I'm cool with people being angry and sharing those feelings with the rst of us. But the sad thing is, their anger is misguided and misdirected. They have nothing to say that's worthwhile whatsoever. Unlike Marvin Gaye singing "What's Going On", and enlightening all of America with music with words that meant something. These knuckleheads are talking about rims, cars and how much sex they think they should have in order to be somebody!

  • @sexybisquit Wow you are so correct with your statements.

2days youths anger is misguided/misdireced. Mouths are

opened yet nothing is coming out. We will never see another Marvin Gaye.

His music was light years ahead of his short period on this cancerous earth.

Rims, cars & the abundance of sex pushed on the air waves 2days has killed the youths minds & direction in life & im not here to start trouble just MI.

  • @port2344chester I know what you're saying. The sad thing is, is that it is killing black people all over the U.S. because of the emphasis on materialistic things. And what I mean by killing is the killing of the black spirit. Black people in America have moved against everything the civil rights movement was about and we are left with false statements surrounding money and preconceived power that we really don't have. It's a cryin' shame. We need to get our voices back!!!

  • @Grinagain67 I agree with you 100%

  • @Grinagain67 AMEN!!!!

  • @summersbr1 totally agree

  • @sexybisquit I TOTALLY agree with you and that is why back in the day this music was called "Soul" music

  • @sexybisquit You deserve mad props for your comments/statements.

Im in your corner with you....they dont make music like this anymore.

Music of 2day is so rushed & watered down IMO.

  • @sexybisquit -HAELL YEAH!

  • @sexybisquit i agree

  • @sexybisquit ...everyone agrees !!! Everyone except corporate radio, that is....

  • @dirtyedna True dat! Unfortunately, people in their twenties and thirties have sold out to the corporate radio scene too because they can't seem to think for themselves and see beyond how they keep real black music oppressed from the public.

  • @sexybisquit Speakin the truth!

  • @sexybisquit totally, could never have put it better.

  • @sexybisquit

    Well said!!!!!

  • @maktubiam1 Thank you. And I mean that statement more than anyone can ever know.

  • @sexybisquit I agree!!!
