i enjoyed this performance very much, excellent detailed instruction.i have seen others use a side kick to this technique which is really not much of a difference the response is applicable to either one. What i like is that you also demonstrate angling off at a 45 degree angle which is what I also do in my expression of kenpo. Both angling off and the backward shuffle method is good depending on the circumstances. Thank you for sharing Sensei Johnson.
Another thing is when he kicks still step back at the 45 but instead of blockin down ward keep your hands up for a check and thrust a side thrust kick to the ribs and then u can follow with a takedown or throw
@0321usmc1775 You can employ the Universal Block on this tech,too...it'd automatically block a lead jab or hook, and it's perfectly placed to block the rear cross or hook.
@ATACXGYM & @0321usmc1775 Thank you for commenting. That's right. At 2:55 and 4:40 I discuss using my rear hand to guard my face and pin the opp's lead arm to prevent his follow up punch or elbow. When combined with the downward block, both arms form a universal block.
hey sensei to sensei dont drop your hand down to hammerfist or even low block. I know these could be used as a block but if he came in with a hook or even round elbow he is going to catch you. At slow speeds these technique is good for gettin used to moving at a forty five.
@0321usmc1775 sifu (and sensei) to sensei, a centerline block-parry would cover the hook option or the straight cross / jab option. From there if it is indeed a straight cross / jab then proceed with the trapping hand and the elbow or whatever. If it is a suitable counter, probably a throw, can be executed as a option. I will demo it later next month.
